Intel Science Vessels

Beauty Shot

Overview

Somerville Intel Science Vessel [T6]

The Somerville Intel Science Vessel [T6] is a design for the core of Starfleet's values. This vessel is equipped for exploration, scientific missions, and information gathering. However, the realities of a dangerous galaxy also require this vessel to be a combat capable vessel, and as such this vessel features powerful defensive shielding, a standard Starfleet compliment of ship weaponry, and powerful deflector dishes to literally manipulate the battlefield as needed.

Batlh Intel Science Vessel [T6]

The Batlh Intel Science Vessel [T6] fills an important role in the Klingon fleets. Gathering Intelligence and advancing Klingon Science is a vital component of ensuring that the Empire remains able to fight to the best of its ability as time goes on. It has powerful shielding to keep its crew safe, and a battle cloak to surprise foes seeking or protecting the same information.

Strengths

The primary strength of the Somerville and Batlh lies in their station assignment: with the number and rank of science stations assigned to these ships, and a power subsystem that provides a significant boost to auxiliary power, the best way to take advantage of them will be to go heavy on science abilities.

The Somerville and Batlh are also both quite nimble, which helps keep enemies in the front arc, providing plenty of opportunity to fire off those hard-hitting science abilities.

Equipment

This build uses easily-obtained equipment, including only standard gear and pieces which can be obtained through Fleet Holdings and/or mission rewards. See below for upgrade suggestions using more difficult-to-obtain gear.

Clearly, upgrading gear to Mark XV and Epic quality will provide the best results. However, see the Suggested Upgrades section below before heavily investing in gear you may be replacing before long.

Weaponry is secondary on these builds; most of the damage being output is going to come from science abilities, rather than weapons. However, this build will also have a good deal of crowd control ability, grouping up enemies for deadly salvos of Torpedo:Spread to add insult to injury.

Weapons

Energy weapons for this build will be polaron. The reason for this is to take advantages of sets such as the Chronometric Calculations Set that provide bonuses for both polaron and science-based abilities.

Fore Weapons

  • Trilithium Tricobalt Torpedo Launcher from the New Frontiers mission "Beyond the Nexus"
  • Photon Torpedo Launcher (x2)

Aft Weapons

  • Ancient Omni-Directional Beam Array from the Solanae Dyson Sphere mission "Sphere of Influence."
  • Antiproton Beam Array (x2)

Deflector

  • Solanae Deflector Array from the Fleet Colony holding

The Solanae Deflector Array is excellent for science builds, and used by many players all the way through end game. While the other pieces of the Solanae Hybrid Technologies set (impulse engines, warp core and shield, below) may not be quite as strong as the defelctor, they are easy to obtain and an excellent start for any science build.

Secondary Deflector

  • Deteriorating Secondary Deflector

A Deteriorating Secondary Deflector will cause your abilities that apply debuffs to also apply a damage over time effect. In this build, abilities which can triggers this include Tyken's Rift and Destabilizing Resonance Beam

Impulse

  • Solanae Hyper-Efficient Impulse Engines from the Solanae Dyson Shere mission "A Step Between Stars."

Core

  • Solanae Overcharged Warp Core from the Solanae Dyson Shere mission "A Step Between Stars."

Shield

  • Solanae Resilient Shield Array from the Solanae Dyson Shere mission "A Step Between Stars."

Devices

  • Shields Battery
  • Auxiliary Battery
  • Subspace Field Modulator from the "Skirmish" mission.

Engineering Consoles

  • Console - Universal - Mycelial Spore Burst
  • Console - Engineering - Reinforced Armaments from New Frontiers mission "Beyond the Nexus"
  • Console - Engineering - Trellium-D Plating from Future Proof mission "Ragnarok"

Science Consoles

  • Console - Science - Restorative Particle Focuser [CtrlX][EPG] (x4) from the Fleet Research Lab holding

Restorative Particle Focusers grant a chance to receive a stacking Exotic damage bonus when activating any Shield Heal or Hull Heal ability.

Tactical Consoles

  • Console - Tactical - Chronometric Capacitor from the Future Proof mission "Time and Tide."
  • Console - Tactical - Vulnerabilty Locator [+Torp] (x2)

Note: You can also use Console - Tactical - Kinetic Protomatter Matrix Infuser from the Fleet Colony holding. This will increase defense at a small cost to overall DPS. Mixing the two types of consoles to maximize offense while providing a comfortable amount of defense is also an option.
