I'd been thinking similarly, though my idea was that the different captains could delegate some of their responsibilities to "fleet rear admirals"--break it up by Europe, Eastern US, Western US, and Oceania, I figure.

Hey Talos. We're currently in the process of promoting some UK and late-night US players to the Fleet Captain position. We should have some relief for our players in your area soon.

As a volunteer organization, we are limited in what we can do based on our volunteers. As of late, we've been a bit short on volunteers from these areas, but a few members have stepped up to fill the void.

If anyone's interested in becoming a Fleet Captain, they can should check out the Fleet Departments page in the Welcome Center for more information.

Hello Talos,

Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us regarding this issue.

It appears that you are unfamiliar with the process of requisitioning. Any and all Fleet Captains within Stonewall have the capability of promoting and demoting members to the rank for requisitioning purposes. It is not assigned to any one department. Additionally all Admirals can do the same. You simply need to speak out in fleet chat to ask for it. Bear in mind that we like to play and have fun too, and we may not be paying attention to fleet chat at that particular moment in time. If you don't get a response, try again or check the roster to see if one is online and send them a PM (we may also be playing on the other fleet or in the Klingon House).

Furthermore, the rigid autocratic stance you mention couldn't be further form the truth. The Fleet is not governed and controlled by one person. There are currently 7 Admirals, and we all have a say in decisions that effect the fleet. We span the globe, and it takes time (that we take from our personal lives) to discuss and make decisions that are best suited for the fleet. We have regular meetings and are constantly monitoring the game, the fleet and the forums. I myself am at work right now, and taking time from my job to post this response to you because I feel it needs to be addressed immediately. In addition there are 7 Fleet Captains that meet and are included in discussions. This is not a leadership of one, nor would it have survived this long if it was. Not a single one of us is paid or compensated for the extra time we put into administering or supervising the functions of this fleet. We do it willingly and with humility.

The same applies to our Fleet Captains, and they are all amazing people. We are very happy to have each and every one of them. We are always looking for more help, as this is a very large group. Nick has already mentioned that we are in the process of promoting out several more Fleet Captains. However, we do not require any one captain to be of a particular geographic region. This would be counterproductive to securing additional volunteers. Each one is precious, and we can not turn any away because they do not live in a certain area of the world.

In regards to the fact that all of the Fleet Captains within my department are "US Nationals". This should have no bearing whatsoever on the morale of the fleet. We all give the time and effort we can afford, and that should not be looked down upon. As to the obvious detrimental impact to the international players, this is the first I have heard of it. I would be curious to hear form other international players on this, and what is contributing to this perception.

No one is forcing you to put your resources into the fleet base projects, you do so willingly. You have the same access to the fleet items as everyone else of the same level within the fleet. You just simply have to ask. :)

Seven of Nine would have also realized that one cohesive voice, or a hive mind is counterproductive to individuality. I personally like each separate individual we have here in the fleet, and would like to keep it that way. ;)

Akurie,

Discretion is always used when filling a role for leadership purposes.

It concerns me that you are touting a way of gaming that promotes hatred, and aggression. This fleet is based off of inclusion and acceptance. The bulk of the GLBTQA community has endured these types of social injustices for too long. We should not be so chalant with regards to these type of things in the real world, let alone a game. And certainly not because you believe this to be "the way it is". This is just one more reason that the Stonewall Fleet is so important. We do not put emphasis on the one, but on the group or the whole. The general advancement of all of us is more significant.

These "Core MMO" players are usually not a good fit for our community. I myself, along with many other members of Stonewall Fleet are not apart of that mindset. I am not a big gamer in general and have only played a handful of games. The games I have played in the past were not nearly as long or as much as I play STO. I come here to play with my friends, and have fun being immersed in the Trek Universe (which we all love and cherish). I enjoy chatting, and Roleplaying, and just having fun with my characters, ships, boffs, and doffs.

As you point out, the core MMO players typically aren't interested in those types of things, and that is just fine. They are welcome to join, but probably wont find exactly what they are looking for out of a guild/fleet here. I do know we have some of these types of players in the fleet, and we love every one of them. But I find that they often play with others outside of the Stonewall community. Again, this is just A-OK with us.

As far as accomplishing little, I am curious to know what you are referring to? I feel that this fleet has accomplished so much more than could ever have been hoped when it was founded over 3 years ago. We have built up an amazing online social network of people from around the world, and all co-mingle across 3 (soon to be 4) different games to play and have fun with one another. What more is there to accomplish than this?

With regards to being a Fleet Captain, experience is not the sole trait we are looking for in a leadership position. To that end leadership by example and character are the key factors. We do not promote based on "time served". We promote those that have taken it upon themselves to be helpful, and supportive of fellow fleet members. Those individuals are also asked to make a commitment to fulfill additional administrative tasks that assist in the running of the fleet. As a previous guild leader you are fully aware of the extra time, energy and sacrifice it takes to fill a position like this.

Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts with us! :)
