New stuff about war zones posted on the main SW:TOR forums. They all look like fun but I think Huttball is my fav so far.

I'm horrid at pvp but I love doing them. I know kind of weird but to me they are something fun to do and can be challenging.

It's awesome they have PvP but this isn't the PvP I'm wanting to hear about. I wish they'd hurry up releasing some open world PvP info.

Not that I don't enjoy instanced pvp but I just think it's fun until it's not and then it's not forever.

I'm not a big fan of open world pvp. Isn't that what pvp servers are for and about?

Honestly hope they never release open world pvp on pve servers. But that is just me.

Nope it's not what PvP Servers are for. I don't mean to preach so sorry if this is a bit preachy but here goes.

PvP Servers are hell. PvP Servers are free for all blood fests which result in you moving 5 foot of a re-spawn point and once again lying on your back. It's literally a server for people to enjoy 100% PvP environment who can take 1000 deaths in one gaming session and keep coming back for more.

Real open world PvP is designed to co-inside with the PvE experience. You should be able to level up and play the end game as normal without ever venturing into a PvP space. This is one of the things that gripes on me whenever a new game is coming out .. having PvP on the same server as PvE doesn't negatively effect your gaming experience. Just because something is there doesn't mean you have to go explore it and it doesn't mean that people will be hiding behind tree's ready to slice your head off.

The big difference in instanced PvP and competitive PvP is scale and persistence. Instanced PvP consists of a hand full of people on each side dukeing it out until one of them gets 500 points (or whatever) and the winner is declare. You then queue for the exact same experience (ok maybe a little harsh it is pvp after all) with no consequence for winning or losing other than the amount of points, experience, currency, items or whatever you yourself can win.

In "real" pvp the fight never ends. If you take a certain point you'll have to hold that point to keep it .. the other side will have to come at you to claim it. It doesn't reset and you'll never get an easy win because the other side will always be there in force of 100+. The benefit (a long with the normal monetary nonsense you get in instanced pvp) is usually realm wide bonus' and of course pride that you are winning the battle for your side. A good PvP system should have a certain amount of ownership and loss associated with it. When the other side pushes you back, when they defeat your army you should feel the pain of it and know that the only win you can win is to dust yourself off and drag your beaten arse back to the battle zone and take the fight to them.

Winning is winning and losing is losing and everybody on the server can see which side is dominant. Believe me .. you'll love it ;)

Edit: Van .. your profile .. it says "I first started with DAOC". Did you never experience the PvP system that game is famous for? DAoC didn't even have PvP servers (not at launch anyway) and the PvP although the focus of endgame didn't ever effect the PvE side of things because they were completely seperate.

No taken as preaching and I liked what you wrote. It's always interesting to hear others thoughts on a game and what they like.

I think I started DAoC after they changed things up, it was 2003 and 2004 when I played. I loved their instance pvp, where stood on a launch pad and got teleported to the battle ground. I tried doing their "zones" in pvp but it was a gank fest and I usually just died all the time and well that wasn't fun. I will say on occasion there would be a grp forming for the relics and we would go capture them, that was fun but again it was a zone you had to go into and could avoid if you wanted.

Aion was similar. I was okay until I got to lvl 20 then from there on out the zones were all pvp and it wasn't fun. I would be minding my own business doing quests and then BAM from no where came 3 or 4 enemy players who where skull and cross bones lvl to me and they would sit there and kill me each time I rezzed. I hated it and it soon canceled my accounts.

I don't mind areas that you go to that are specifically noted as open world pvp. But if I'm forced to go to them for quests to level I don't like that part. Bottom line: I just do not want to have to worry about it while leveling. If I go from lvl 1 - 50 and never ever have to venture into a zone that is PvP then I'm happy. (see Aion above)

For me I like the battle grounds you queue for, they are challenging enough.

I'm not a true PvP player. I like my PvP light and vanilla. :)

Just saw the trailer for the VoidStar Warzone. Looks interesting and I'm not a PvP fan.

If they made one or two worlds a capture and hold type that's on a timer instead of *on* all the time I'd probably try that. Right now all I'm seeing is small groups going at it but if they had one that let EVERYONE in that would be epic.

Maybe they have that but I haven't had much time to sift through the holonet on their website.

The Warzone instances look really fun and I will certainly enjoy playing them, but a world PvP zone that you can go play in anytime without a queue is a must IMHO.

I think LOTRO had an enjoyable PvP system. It was a large zone filled with a number of keeps and forts that had to be captured along with relics that gave the either side stat bonuses if they were in possession. If the zone was quiet and not much fighting, there were also some PvE quests that you could do. It was a zone that was always "on", not instanced. They also had an in-game com system that worked pretty good if you were in a group or raid.

I really don't like PvP, personally, but I do like the look of a lot of the PvP armour; so I'll probably test the waters just to see how much PvP grinding will be necessary to get it.

Aion has something similar to that. The entire abyss is PvPvE and on all the time but you can only capture fortresses at certain times of the day. They are then locked and the controlling faction gets a stat bonus until the fort is vulnerable again.
