Re: tips & tricks for swtor

enrapture, maybe move all the helpful links up into your first post so we don't have to sort thru all the pages of non tips and tricks posts?

Might be easier to find stuff if it's all on the first page.

Re: could use advice on upgrading my graphics card

December 06 2011
From the list of known issues on SWTOR:
"ATI video cards may experience some graphical inconsistencies such as blank icons, blank character portraits, or flickering shadows. These may supersede the other issues listed here."

I have always had good experiences with Nvidea GeForce cards. The one I have now is GTX 550 Ti I bought last summer. It only cost me $120.00.

Let's start a guild wide toon name lock list.

December 06 2011
Since everyone has been itching to play SWTOR and I am sure by now you have either designed your first toons in either beta or in your heads along with their perfect name. I am proposing a toon name lock list.

I know it would kill me if after some long brainstorming process of choosing a name to have it taken by another player let alone another guildy. So let's start the list and agree to keep to our own names.

Plus it would be extremely intriguing to see what everyone has come up with. I can't wait to see you on launch day!

Well, I just read everyone's responses (which are vomiting bubbly feelings left and right) and it did not really help in toning down my excitement >_>. I hope I get to atleast reserve my toon name.

for the early access, I am guessing that they will send email notifications in waves starting five days from the release date correct?

Can't wait to jump in and have some fun with everyone! Work the very early shift so my main playtimes will be in the afternoon/evenings mountain time. No idea what class I'll play altho it will likely be Sith. . . and a ton of alts I am sure.

I am one lucky s.o.b. - just looked and I have the 15/16th off. Altho I'll have Skyrim on standby for any launch server crashes/queues.

What am I supposed to do until early access? I keep checking all my usual sites, then staring at my desktop wanting to click TOR icon :P

Been hearing about this game for the past 3 years. The past year seemed to drag on and on. Got to play the beta the last 2 weekends and it only whetted my appetite for more. Looking forward to all the excitement of launch and guild shenanigans.

I downloaded for the Nov 25th beta and have not received any notification to uninstall it, so looks like it's ok to use.

I am *so* looking forward to Early Access and getting started... for real, this time! Told my roommate 'T-minus 10 days and counting'. ;)

I'm an alt-aholic as well and plan on doing each class and then experimenting with dark vs light with each class. So yeah, I'm going to be playing A LOT. :D

I just guesstimated I didn't do huge jumps. On my old computer that had 300w I went to a 450 or 500w and went with a 5770 card but you could go with an nvidia version as well.

Re: What server are the guilds going to be on?

December 06 2011
I'm certain Nick has gone above and beyond to make sure Knights of Stonewall followed all instructions in the Pre-Launch Guild Program. Also, I'm pretty sure KoS was one of the earliest guilds to get set up so if timing determines what server we'll be placed on there really shouldn't be a problem with that.

I'm really looking forward to grouping up with you guys. Corwund and I ran around together for 1 1/2 days this past weekend helping each other with our class quests -- and get our ships! While I missed out on some aspects of the game during these past 2 beta weekends (never did get to do a Flashpoint), it just whetted my apetite to jump back in and correct some errors I made with my Smuggler first time around. Now I guess the only thing left to do now is wait and watch for the e-mails that will say where and when I'll be playing. I hope I can deal with the suspense!!

Just tried to log in to see if the game would patch but got the "Server not Responding" message.

Not sure if they're still doing maintenance or if the servers are down until closer to early access.

Doesn't mean I won't stop trying, though.

Just found this on the forums:

In preparation for the official release of Star Wars: The Old Republic, we wanted to make sure that everyone has the correct game client installed on their machine.

If you participated in our Game Testing Program before November 25th, we recommend that you uninstall the game testing client (refer to instructions below) and then download and install the launch game client. We’ll update this post with more instructions when they’re available. The size of the launch game client is approximately 27 GB.

If you have played in our game testing program at any point from November 25th onwards, you will not need to re-install the game client, as you should already have the launch version installed.

Here's a link to the whole thing:

ooo techjo, thank you. Friday the 25th was the first time I beta tested SWTOR. In preparation, I had downloaded the game a couple days before that. I checked and my SWTOR directory is only 18.5gb. It didn't occur to me that I might have the "old" version of the game even though I read most of what you posted here. Thanks for saving me pain later on. :cheer:

Everyone I talked to in-game this past weekend also thought we would just patch the client we have now. This is a surprise.

It makes me kinda sad to uninstall it. Maybe I'll open the installer one last time and take a screen print before I wipe it out.

Oh well, at least we'll be starting off with a brand new shiny game client for launch!!

(I feel like I'm 8 years old and I'm waiting for Santa Clause to come).

How long have you been in Beta, is your beta client old or the new one released for the Thanksgiving weekend test

I thought we were ok if we downloaded the other week and just wondered if you got the email because you have the older client

EDIT UPDATE: According to BioWare's FAQ, the latest build (if you tested after 11/25/11) does not need to be installed and should patch to the retail version when you gain access (Early or Launch).

[strike]My husband was part of the General testing population and played right through Sunday. He needs to uninstall as well. Everyone needs to uninstall.

I'm just hoping they are smart enough to allow us to start download several days before Early Access is supposed to start. There won't be a lot of happy people if they hold the client until the day EA begins.[/strike]
