Couple more things I discovered, and I'm sure many of you already know about it...

If you complete a mission and your inventory is full, or if you companions complete a mission while you're in a conversation, you may not get the mission completion/reward window popping up.

Just click on the "Pending" warning located on the upper right of your UI, above your mission log and you can claim all the rewards you missed due to whatever reason.

Also, while you're on a quest, you may need certain quest items to be used on fallen mobs. To find them in your inventory, you'll need to click on a separate tab inside your inventory to access them...

Cheers!

The usually you get your ship at about lvl 16 depending on when you finish your class quests. You can buy/make upgrades for your ship, which need to be equipped on your ships inventory. This really helps with space combat.

Space combat gives you credits, sometimes titles, and commendations. Some people complain about it, but I think its a great little diversion, send your companions off on missions whilst you do it, earning even more.

The ship droid is a healer, but he doesn't have anything equipped, so he will be a really crappy healer until you outfit him :)

soo many people in my beta were asking this!!!

As to the datacrons, there is already at few guides online...however some people are of the notion that their locations will be changed come launch. So, I'm thinking maybe wait and see.

My only problem with space combat (except that it isn't exactly STO standard) is that it makes me feel really sick. I struggle with travel sickness anyway and I simply can not go into a simulator without eventually expelling my lunch so this just isn't a fun addition for me.

Does anybody feel this effect when playing in space?

Does anybody know if there is a limit to this? I think I had 2 pending in Beta but I was wondering if you can literally complete quests left right and center and claim all your rewards whenever it's convenient to you. It's an awesome addition to the game for sure but I'd be worried that if you have two many pending you may start losing them.

As far as I know, I had 4 pending ones and claimed them all at once... Haven't tested with a higher number than that...

Well technically you could "stack up" all the rewards, and claim them all at once, however, your quest XP is also considered one of your rewards and will also be withheld from you until you "claim" it... Isn't that kinda like saying, "Nah I don't need yo stinkin' XP" ?

Not yet, but I can see how one might feel motion sickness because of the lack of control over the camera.

FOV Adjustment:

If you are seeing too much fisheye on your camera, or perhaps the opposite if you feel that your FOV (Field of View) is too restricted, you can hold the CTRL key and scroll your mouse wheel to adjust the FOV without zooming.

This would probably come in extremely handy if I had one of those curvy monitors, I bet.

enrapture, maybe move all the helpful links up into your first post so we don't have to sort thru all the pages of non tips and tricks posts?

Might be easier to find stuff if it's all on the first page.

I was searching for some info on Jedi Consular Shadow tanking and came across this post. It seems mostly theorycrafting at this point, but some basics and helpful information on this Advanced Class are included. Enjoy!

Reduced xp while grping with higher level toons.

Did two tests in this last beta as I was curious to how grping with higher levels would effect your xp.

Test 1
Group make up - Lvl 12x2, lvl 19x1 - xp was almost a third of what I was getting when I went in with toons one lvl above or below my lvl. We where getting 26-54 xp pts for gold crown mobs and regular trash. Bosses where just around 100 or so xp. My lvl was 12.

Test 2
Group make up - lvl 11x1, lvl 14x1, lvl 36x1 - xp..um what is that. LOL we got 1 xp for regular trash and 16 xp for gold crown mobs. Bosses where around 24 xp. My lvl 14.

One thing didn't change was the social pts. Still got the same number of social pts no matter what level character I grp'd with.

Since I will be a clothy, I know I will go with Synth and Arch the question I have is ....

Underworld or Diplomacy

I heard both, but which is going to do better for Synthing Light Armor, I don't need the medical crap Diplomacy gives me, and don't get enough cloth from Underworld it seems.

Any ideas on this?

They changed the mission rewards a few builds ago. If they don't change it again, Diplomacy now just has stuff for Bio-chem items and Underworld trading for all armors.

Also something I didn't see in this thread, if you are in a solo cut screen and you don't like what you picked. Like a choice that caused a -250 companion affection or something before the it is over hit ESC and you can redue the options. You can also switch companions when out of the cut-screen to one that would like it. I only did that a few times when it was huge amounts of affection points.

Aldente shared this very useful info in another thread.. re: naming

Quote by Aldente
You choose one name at character creation. You can choose whether to make that sound like a first name or a last name or something ambiguous. There are a large number of titles and some folks argue that some of them sound better if your chosen name is a first name and others sound better if your chosen name is a last name. For instance, if you named your trooper Brad, one of your early titles would make you appear as Sergeant Brad which some might say sounds like a stripper. If you opted to call your trooper Patton, you'd be Sergeant Patton.

The other consideration is that once one of your characters completes Chapter One of your class story, you earn legacy status and can choose a legacy name. The legacy name is used for all your characters. For each character, you can choose to display the legacy name as a last name, as a title following your name, or not display it at all. To continue with the example, you could name your character Brad and choose Patton as your legacy name which would mean that you could run around as:
  • Brad Patton
  • Sergeant Brad Patton
  • Sergeant Brad, the Patton Legacy

If your character was a Bounty Hunter, you could even be Brad Patton, Hired Gun.

Does that help?

Erm... I was of the understanding that Underworld trading also provided metals for the other crafting skills. Don't scare me

Here's patch notes from Build Date: 2011.12.01
Patch: 0.742.27

That's why I advocated for the link repository. That way, people can go right to the links and not have to dig for them.

Apparently, you can go to the fleet to grab your crafting skills pretty much right away, and then return to the Starter area to do your missions there and do some gathering too! I haven't personally tested this though.

You will reduce the time for crafting by increasing affection with your companion. Also, the success rate on missions is increased with higher affection.

Very good to know! Thanks for sharing this treasure trove of info!
