New STO Expansion: Delta Rising

Thanks for the info Jacien, I've been trying to follow the updates down under.

I'm holding judgment on the new ships until we gets some dev posts. I do like the designs though.

Personally I'm amazed there haven't been any dev announcements. It's surprising that there wasn't anything pre-prepared to go in concert with the STLV reveals. The forums are going nuts with hearsay.

I'm not sure I'd characterize so much as 'hearsay' as just 'blatant speculation'.

I get your previous point; it's not without reason - and there's a thread devoted to the PR 'epic fail' emerging from waiting more than two whole days to make major, substantive announcment.

I'm still decompressing from Vegas. If I were Al and the crew - I'd have preemptively sicked out the next couple of days.

Frankly - pretty much the overwhelming bulk of FORUM DOOOOM! going on right now is nothing that other games have just ridden over with new expansion content.

It appears this thread has indeed been linked a couple times on the official STO forums, as Sej has pointed out, and they're all abuzz about it. Thanks to everyone who contributed information and images to this thread, couldn't be prouder!

This ship was indicated to be the new escort and they were dropping some heavy hints that the new class of sci/tac hybrid was going to be a Dauntless:

Hmm... Well so long as the Warbird and KDF cruiser aren't weird sci hybrids (which they seem overly fond of lately) I think I might fly my old Warbird into an asteroid field and then make an insurance claim so I can get the new one. >.>

That fed escort looks like a hubcap!

A well done science Dauntless could pique my interest though.

All of it looks pretty exciting! I'm curious to see how they handle the ship upgrades. I've thought the Assault Cruiser Refit was always a little underpowered compared to all the other OP c-store ships out there. It'd be nice if it got a decent boast.

I'm more curious about the less talked about bullet points like what infinite progression and exploration will really entail. I truly hope for an awesome dynamic system for exploration.

That and the fact that all of our current gear will be totally obselete. :whistle:

I'll reiterate Al's claim that T5-5.5 ships at least won't be obsolesced by the T6 introduction - barring any definitive detail on how exactly, natch.

Now, Mk12 gear on the other hand...

That's like saying the NX-01 isn't obsolete. But how mad would you be at someone for showing up to a STF in one?

Except NX is Tier 1, with no upgraded (re: Fleet) equivalent.

The better analogy would be bringing a Tier 4 ship into endgame content - which you see plenty of.

Is the Tier 4 ship as capable of as much DPS, healing, or tanking as a T5-5.5? Probably not.

But one still sees T4's in Elite STFs, performing reasonably well.

And mind you, this is a worst case scenario.

Without further detail, it's still possible Cryptic may still have upgrade paths planned to mitigate deprecation.
