Well laid out and well written you get your point across well. However, on a fundamental level I don't think we have as much to fear from the upgrade system. The new boff powers which let's face if is the crux of the argument are nice and new and shiney but they do not make the current powers obsolete by any stretch of the imagination.

Currently tier 5-U ships will have 11 console slots and t6 only 10 I don't know about you but that is a major bonus for tier 5-u to me. Inrealose fleet t6 is coming eventually but to begin with I would argue t5-u is actually better.
My main feeling on this will be wait and see, everyone thought romulans were stupidly strong to begin with and it turned out their ships are made of paper. Looking at the t6 stats I think they will be similar. People will adjust. Also please don't take this as me raining on your parade it is far from that your points and e still perfectly valid I just don't necessarily draw the same conclusion from them.

I'd been on the forums begging for them to allow ship leveling in much the same way as character leveling since beta. Tiered ships are all well and good, but they didn't really fit as neatly in with Trek canon as they tried to do it in the game. A ship that leveled with you would have made far more sense than abandoning the ship you loved for one you did not.

Of course Cryptic's remedy was to simply add in T5 retrofits of some of the old favourites, but left others shivering out in the cold. An example would be the T5 ENT era ships (eg the Vulcan science ship, Andorian warships and Romulan warbird) and the much more iconic Constitution class left languishing down at T2 because CBS did not want it to be a T5 ship, not even as a retrofit (for whatever reason).

If Cryptic had simply made ships level with their captains, I feel that ships like the dear old Connie would not have been left out like that (but then again neither would the TOS Connie or NX-01 Enterprise. But if other ENT era ships can be T5 without mass whinging, then what's good for the goose is good for the gander) and this whole T5/T5-U/T6 row would not be happening.

Well the T-6 ships so far have far lighter hulls than T-5U ships and they lack the 11th console slot. The extra console slot is the difference between having to CHOOSE from aceton assimilator and plasmonic leech to HAVING aceton assimilator and plasmonic leech.

According to that the T6 ships get the additional console slot on top of the bridge officer ability, starship trait and specialist seat.

As for hull strength my Vesta has a base of 27900 while the Scryer has a base of 29700 that goes up to 36000 at lvl 60 so I have lower hull starting off.

The only plus so far to my Vesta is the hangars. The new ships have by far better stats all around and tossing in a BOFF slot on top of that makes me a lot weaker.

I want a Q ship. Tiers are irrelevant to Q

I just want to point out that Meta made a Trek reference. In conversation. Successfully.

I'm willing to take a wait and see approach. People have been asking for higher player levels up to fleet admiral for years. Now that we've finally got it, what did people expect ship wise?

When I see threads like this I am always reminded of one thing, and that is we haven't actually seen any stats for the plain old T6 ships yet. We have seen stats for the T6 Intel ships which are T6 with bells and whistles but the plain old vanilla T6 hasn't been revealed yet.

I am pretty sure when we see the stats for those our T5-U ships will be slated for being to powerful compared to the new shinies which will be deemed pointless.

I agree, I think it might be wiser to wait and see what the final implementation will be like when Delta Rising goes live. The way things appear on paper are often not an accurate representation of what they're like in the game. I've also found that the way Cryptic presents some of the information is sometimes confusing (to me, at least), so all of this might just be a case of them not conveying the new upgrade system as simply as possible.

Personally, I think the T5-U sounds more like a tier of its own that's parallel to T6, rather than something that's halfway in between or in any way obsolete. That's just my perception based on what I've read so far, but I could certainly be wrong.

I'm wondering if any of this affects those of us who don't really do PvP or the queued PvE events.
