XP vs Skill?

XP vs Skill?

July 25 2014
So, as you can imagine, I've been doing a bit of crafting, but I'm a bit confused by the XP vs Skill. I've been mainly doing the research projects white reward some 6k XP, but also 30 - 15 Skill.

Does anyone know what the difference is? Seems like an odd separation.

I don't believe the XP shifts in any way.

But I see chances for Crit - perhaps the Skill is the only bonus you get from that?

This probably isn't what you mean, but I'm looking at it like this >

XP gets you to the next level

Each level is worth 10 skill points, e.g level 6 you will have 60 skill.

Skill affects the outcome of the crafting project, the higher the skill, the better the quality. eg, needing 40 skill for a beam, having less than that, you will get lower quality, higher than that, more likely to get a purple.

Each item has a suggested skill, eg, a level to reach before being able to craft it correctly.

Again with beams, being level 7 in beams and going to craft a Mk XII item (which is 150 I think). Having only 70 skill means you will probably just craft a white. The higher level you are, the more skill, the better quality item you will craft.

Hope I am not way off here, but thats how I am seeing how the R&D system works.

sparkz, from what I'm seeing, nailed it. Skill isn't a compiled stat like Experience or Commendation points. Think of it in a way like Turn Rate. The value is defined by the ship (crafting level), affects how well you can pull off complicated maneuvers (crafting success), and can only be modified by a few consoles (doff quality and catalysts).

Are you seeing, maybe, "30 + 15" skill? If so, that's level 3 in that craft and using a blue (I think) doff.
