Stonewall Chat and Grouping Up

December 22 2013
As we all know we have a vast amount of people in Stonewall, it various alt fleets and House of Stonewall on the KDF Side so we have the joint channel we can all chat in.

However there seems to be a sort of elephant forming, now we know when people want to group up its usually "X" in chat or something, thats fine, but it seems at times if your not on TS you kinda don't get an answer when you show interest and say "Oh whats the X for?", sure people are nice enough to say "Oh we're X'ing for Y", and sometimes people see the X and want to join in too.

Now the problem that seems to be rearing its head is communication, or lack of, take today for example, there was an STF group forming and I had X'd in the chat,

Now being on a KDF toon it can take a while to be sent and invite as it needs to be in a private queue, so I waited a bit, 5 minutes go by I politely ask if the invites have been sent out, nada, no-one organizing it replies, ok, wait another 10 ask again, still no reply, and I'm writing in the right channels as other fleet members are able to see what I'm asking, 15 minutes go by and at this point its clear that I'm not going on this fleet run, So I PM'd someone who also X'd asking if they had gotten their invite only to find out they were already in and progressing

I get that there are only 5 man groups and only a set amount of players can get it, but I felt as though that was kinda rude, a simple "Oh Sorry we just filled up" or a "we're full, Thanks" would of saved me 15 minutes of sitting around on Qonos not starting anything in case I get an invite. Considering that even at level 50 some of the KDF PvE queues can take a lot of time to get 5 member's, its often quicker to go with fleet member's as opposed to randoms

Now with the holidays almost in full swing more and more people will be coming online so more people will be interested in running content as a fleet, which is good, but could we all try and be a little courteous and perhaps inform people "We're just X'ing to grab this character again for the group we're in" or "Xing for Y STF" or even "Sorry we're full", Theres some STFs that give you ample briefing time to type a little message before you start

So just a little bit of communication could go a long way, and as I said before its a 5 man group, even if you didn't form the group but you did get in please say something

Thats just my 2 EC really

Heres my 2 cents...

Vent is important. When teaming for STFs, Vent is heavily enouraged so the leader can give out instructions. With other missions, it is optional, but up to the leader of the group's discretion.
As stated in http://fleet.stonewallgaming.net/welcome-center/guides-and-tutorials/guide-to-etiquette-in-teaming

Don’t exclude anyone. Wither you are using vent or Stonewall Chat to announce you are starting a group, please do not exclude someone. Try your best to include anyone who wants to come with. If six people want to participate, try splitting into two groups of three to include everyone, if possible.
As stated in http://fleet.stonewallgaming.net/welcome-center/guides-and-tutorials/guide-to-etiquette-in-teaming

While at least when I do runs I don't exclude anyone I do go to TS people first because we are all already set up to go. At times some people are under a time crunch (as I am a lot of the time), so time is an issue. And at times TS ppl do fill up a team, while ts isn't required to do an STF there are times when it can make or break the STF, HSE is an example, I refuse to do that without everyone in the same channel, it is straight forward but that doesn't mean that its easy especially when discussing strategies and how we are going to proceed so that we can actually complete it.

Also at times the x'ing could be to get an invite to a bridge, the starbase, a party, or for leveling, it's not always for STF's. I know that if there is room left when I'm done getting the XOX's from those interested then I always go to fleet chat! Also if you see it happening frequently, it might be the same group trying to accomplish something specific, all working towards common goal. Ya never know....

So in my opinion while you do not like how things went down today, it does happen. I think we all forget at times this is just a game, we need to relax and have fun and if something doesn't go our way its not like the borg are going to come and assimilate this, also I've never heard of anyone beating this game so it's not like it's a race and we have to finish the game, so lets all get along and have fun! :-)

vent/teamspeak/voip program of choice please pick which one applies.

@WarGames
Yes it could be an already formed team trying to sort something, all 1 of them needs to say is "We're doing something, ignore the X" or something to that effect, its just nice to know whats going on to avoid confusion as to who's doing what

Also with the holidays in effect, some people may be on older computers at their folks or something and might not have Vent/TS installed but know how the STF goes, and yeah I'm with you on HSE I wouldn't touch that, but for things where the objective is clear or you've done it before like infected it might not be worth (for lack of a better word?)having the group wait 10 minutes for an STF so TS/vent can load on your PC for a mission that will only take 7-8 minutes :)

@Oop
If it was your group earlier there was posting in fleet chat for people to join, it would just of been nice to of been told in fleet chat, the same place it was advertised, that it was full, as I said before takes 30 seconds 5 people, all it takes is for 1 person to say "We're full" :), either way thank you for the apology

Very true! it doesn't take long to say 'were full'. And i agree/disagree about the requiring to be on ts, only for the reason that it makes startup easier on a bunch of stfs...eg kase where we have to set up whose doing what and ppl are just chomping on the bit to start without any patience lol :p

I do agree that everyone needs to have a little bit of patiences with everyone when starting a Private Queue for any PvE Event on STO.

If you have/had the patiences to build and level your character, take the time to be organised and negotiate with everyone you are teaming with on who is doing what roles in any STF run.

There's my 2 EC with interest of an extra slab of Gold Pressed Latium for Grand Negus Dex...

Well, it's always good to be polite announcing whether the team is full in fleet chat to prevent further confusion. At the end of the day, especially when we're winding down for the Holiday break to chill, play STO, and such, remember it's only a game. We're here to have fun! Miscommunications happen, especially within globally diverse online communities.

Who knows, maybe they're "X"ing for hugs? ;)
