Please Fellow fleet have some patience & Share

August 12 2013
Im not one to moan or be on a downer.

but I was playing an STF tonight with fellow fleeties.
I was asked to do something.. which I normally do.. Defend Kang on CSE.

I was pretty much self taught in STFs, and played with public and friends, doing exactly the same thing.. repairing kang.. fighting off the incoming.. repairing etc etc.

Tonight I was told I was just sitting there, I wasnt.. I did ask that person after.. what I was doing wrong.. and hinted for advice on how to do it their way.. to which I was kinda ignored.

Like I said Im not moaning, but I ask veteran Fleet players.. to maybe show some patience.. or maybe give some advice if they see a player can do it differently.. Im slowly getting used to the fleet and there are some cracking mates in here.
But to new comers.. it may put them off.
Just be a bit nicer, be a family.. and maybe find it in your hearts to share some of your wisdom for the next time.. we all have to start somewhere :)

Sorry you had a bad experience. I've found most fleet members are helpful. Hopefully the person was just having a bad day. I'll team up with ya anytime! =)

Hey GXV3,

I'm disappointed to hear that you had an unpleasant encounter in your STF. By and large, we're all a very friendly and welcoming bunch and are more than happy to teach newcomers the ropes and to dispense advice when it comes to tactics, etcetera.

As mykryptonite has mentioned, there are plenty of us who are willing to walk you through some of the strategies in a stress free, no-pressure environment, including those fine members of our PvE department, who'd be more than happy to show you the ropes!

We certainly strive to be welcoming of everyone here, regardless of skill level; a sentiment that I'm sure that all of the responses in this thread will strongly support. I look forward to running into you in-game in the near future, and maybe we'll get a chance to run a few of those STFs together :)

Cheers!
Dave.

As a fellow PvE fleet captain, I must add my voice to Colby and Voleron's replies. I am disheartened you had a bad experience. I want you to know my door is open to you any time I'm online and am more than happy to run STFs (or anything else) with you and teach you all you want to learn. Just hail me and I'll be glad to team up with you. :)

Heya, Gareth! We've spoken already, but just wanted to again apologize for the unpleasant experience.

When I was first starting out STF's I had a horrible experience with a former member and it pretty much ruined my drive to participate in any fleet STF's. This was until I discovered that not everyone was like that player of whom I had that unfortunate encounter with. As mentioned already, don't let this ruin your STF journey. They can be so much fun when in the right group! Our PvE Department does an excellent job with tutorial runs and would most likely be happy to take you along on some missions :)

Let me know if you need anything,

~Andrew

There are some perfectionists out there that unfortunately forget to communicate with people. Don't feel bad though, you did MUCH better than me, I usually just drive my ship into the Borg and then type ":)" into the chat.

If I am online at the same time you are I will happily invite you to do STF's. Just gimme a holler. I am working on a new medic that needs a shitload of omega marks. The folks I generally run these with are incredibly patient and nice. This is a game and as such if you are not having fun then it's not worth it. Join me and together we will rule the universe as....ooops sorry wrong game.

Kidding aside, I am sorry you are having troubles but honestly, join me and the gang for stf's you will never see them the same again. And I guarantee you will have fun! If not then I, as a fellow fleetie, have not done my job right.

So I was just imagining this scenario playing out. It definitely would have put a smile on my face to see the explosion (sad part) but then to see the smiley in chat would have made me giggle a little. As I usually curse when I drive my ship into the borg and explode.

Yeah Baothezar's pretty accommodating, I mean he took me on an STF with my brand new Rom Vet ship, and I had forgotten to replace the stock weapons...

We still got the optional and no one gave me shit, but damn did I feel stupid

It sounds as though there's been some miscommunication between both parties that has lead to some hard feelings here. I can speak with confidence when I say that we all encourage you both attempt to resolve whatever miscommunication took place, as we truly strive to maintain a friendly and compassionate, family-feeling environment here in Stonewall :) The appropriate forum for that conversation is likely through a private chat, either in-game or through messages through the site.

We're a family here, and all come to the Stonewall community with a unique commonality that binds us all together. I would hope that within that commonality, we can find the understanding needed to resolve situations like this without incident.

Feel free to reach out to the leadership team, should all other attempts to resolve this issue fail, but I feel and hope that this is something both of you can likely resolve relatively easily.

Cheers both :)
Dave.

I host that STF, and I feel like you're over reacting blowing the whole thing out of proportion. And you make it like I was the one who blew up about the stf. I wouldn't even do that if we failed the mission. But we didn't. We even got the optional. So...

1.) I did not ignore you. I responded to your tells, if I did not respond to something, it was because I'm not the most diligent person when it comes to tells. So don't take that personally. I do that to people whom I play with everyday.

2.) Per our conversation, I told you the strategy wasn't one used normally. I mean it wasn't ok for people to just sit there. But it wasn't a normal strategy either. We lacked a confident kang so I laid out what my strategy PRIOR to starting which involved teams and people killing their own bops. And in the middle of the stf, I saw that you were just sitting there and asked you about it in team chat, and you didn't respond. I was not rude or abusive. It's pretty common for people to leech or not do well. Even fleeties are sometimes are as bad as pugs. And all I did was point it out so that it can be rectified.

3.) I'm more then happy to offer advice on sto shit. But you didn't ask for any.

If anythin, I am was less patient typing this response out then about the stf

Thats fine, but I wasn't just sitting there/leeching I can VERY much assure you. I fended off quite a few incoming and repaired kang as standard... which i was told to do.
I did ask what you intended for me to do during game chat and later in a tell, twice including on the public fleet chat.

again im sorry if you didn't see those messages.

and please bare in mind this is not aimed at you, Im not here for arguments, im in this game to relax and have fun.. im the friendliest politest person you could meet. and I apologuise once again, as i did yesterday if I have offended of Pee'd off anyone.
this post is just an observation on how we can all help each other out in this "game".

Thanks Geo, Colby, Andrew, Parker, Zander, Travis, Dave

Hey, in the end, we're here to pew pew, have fun, and hopefully learn how to become better STF'ers from the experiences of each other. We all have something to bring when it comes to defeating the borg. Miscommunications happen, but we learn from our mistakes, try our best, and keep trekkin' on. B)

It's great to see so many fleetmates willing to assist and team up with ya! Just remember, you're in good company. :)

This truly does seem to be just a bad case of missed-communications. I'm notorious for missing tells and even I was a bit confused when Meta instructed us to use this particular tactic a couple of days ago but it did end up working.

I don't think it was anything intentional and I'm so sorry if you were in any way made to feel self-concious, Gareth. I know what a sweet and kind person you are.

Ooops, gotta fly, I'm at Las Vegas airport and it appears my flight back to LA is is boarding 10 minutes early. Darn and here I thought I could get in a Breen daily or two. B)

Thanks for the offers lads, and I deffo will take you up on them! whoop!

As my first post said.. I know how to do them, Ozy and Ryan made sure of that.
and I do them a more than a few times a night... :p (but I can always learn more)
The Ground I stay away from :p so ill need help there.

I fear the original message that I was hoping to get across has been lost. I was not aiming at anyone, it was merely an example of what i experienced. and if any of the new members needed help.

but All of your responses have proved that we all have each others backs. whoop!

now time to rebuild my looser reputation! lol :woohoo:

I don't think anyone's rep has been hurt. You are both amazing guys and will get over this lil hump in a blast of Phaser fire (aimed at the borg). The lesson here is to communicate and for that we have an amazing tool called Vent. I suggest, even if you don't speak, you set it up to listen. It can be very difficult to type out messages during an STF, that 's how communication breaks down. I'll roll with all y'all anytime!

Now group hug everyone! (points at Eurrsk to start)
