My Maquis Lover
Ok as well before we start this is based on the series Star Trek Voyager
but with a twist from the original story line and i hope you like it.
Chapter 1: USS Voyager NCC 74656
"Mum, Dad I got in. I got in" I yelled. Both my mum and dad came running
through to the living room while I was looking over the computer console in
the living room. "I told you, you would get in" my mum told me. "I'm happy
for you son!" my dad told me. I remember that day like it was yesterday. It
was the day I got my acceptance letter come through from Starfleet
academy. That was almost 3 years ago. Today I'm an ensign who graduated
from the academy less than 2 weeks ago. I saw the look in my mum and dad's
eyes they were so happy when Admiral Jackson gave my first sold gold pip
that classified me as an ensign. Since that time I have been sending out
applications to as many Starfleet captains that were looking for
engineers. That's what I do I'm an engineer. I'm Jack by the way. Jack
Carter. Just to give you an idea about what I'm like I'm English. Born and
raised in London in a large house. I'm 5ft 11, medium build with shoulder
length blonde hair and bright blue eyes. I have soft clear skin and an
amazing smile. Oh and I'm gay which is not un-heard of and much more
accepted than it was in the late 20th and early 21st century.
So I was sat in my apartment in San Francisco that I was renting on a part
time basis until I was going to be assigned. It was around 20:30 in the
middle of April where I was just reading a book when my computer chirped. I
put my book down and headed over to my console expecting it be one of the
guys from the academy that I had made friends with. I had become really
good friends with a guy called Alex Munro whilst I was at the academy but
the difference between me and Alex was that he worked in security and he
was straight. But I didn't know that when I first met him and I thought he
was the cutest guy around and I had to do all I could from stopping myself
from jumping on him then and there.
So as I approached my console I sat down and tapped a control, a woman with
long red hair tied up in a bun with 4 pips on her collar in a red command
uniform. "Ensign Carter?" She asked. "Yes ma'am that's me how can I help
you?" I asked her. "Well ensign my name is Captain Kathryn Janeway and I'm
in command of the new federation starship Voyager. I received your
application to become part of my engineering staff and even though I've
already selected my crew compliment I would like to take you on. We are
launching in 2 weeks from Deep Space Nine in search of a maquis raider
where my chief of security was on board undercover. The mission should only
last for 3 weeks but from what I'm told Voyager is going to be sent on
various missions thereafter. Right now Voyager is en-route to Deep Space
Nine so I'm going to have a shuttle prepped and you and I will be leaving
for deep space nine first thing in the morning. Please be at the Oakland
Shipyards by 07:00." She told me. "Yes ma'am I'll be there. Thank you
Captain." I replied. "You're welcome ensign; I'd be a fool not to bring you
on this mission. Janeway Out" The comm. channel closed and I started to get
ready. I packed up my clothes and pads and sorted out the apartment and
made it tidy. The only thing I would need to do in the morning was pack my
bedding and toiletries and head out. I contacted the owner of the apartment
I was renting and he was happy for me to just leave the apartment in the
morning. I instructed the computer to wake me at 05:00 and headed in to the
shower. After finishing the shower I got in to my night clothes and put in
a call to my mum and dad. "Hey Jack how are you?" My mum asked. "I'm good
mum, really good in fact I've just been offered an assignment and I've
taken it. I'm going to be getting a position aboard the starship Voyager
under Captain Janeway as an engineer." I told her. "That's great son,
really great. When do you leave?" She asked. "Well I'm getting a shuttle at
07:00 tomorrow with Captain Janeway and heading to Deep Space Nine, but the
ship doesn't officially begin its mission for two weeks." I told her. "Well
that's good it gives your dad and I a chance to catch a transport to Deep
Space Nine before you leave." She told me. "Yeah that sounds great just let
me know when you're coming and I'll put in a shift request. Anyway mum I'm
going to head to bed, got to be up early. I love you and I'll see you
soon." I told her. "We love you to son and have a good trip with the
captain tomorrow" She said. I smiled and ended the transmission. I then put
in a call to Alex and he answered right away "This better be important Jack
I've gotta catch a shuttle at 07:00 to start my new assignment." He told
me. "Yes it is Alex and I'm getting a shuttle too so that I can start my
assignment on Voyager" I told him "What your being assigned to Voyager
that's awesome that means we're gonna be on the same ship. And that must
mean you're getting a shuttle with Captain Janeway and me from the Oakland
Shipyards right?" He asked me "Yeah I am. She called me about half an hour
ago and offered me a place. Right I'm heading to sleep and I'll see you at
the shipyard." I said. "Yeah see you in the morning mate." He said and
ended the transmission. I climbed in to bed turned out the lights and fell
asleep.
At 05:00 the computer woke me and I got up and headed to the replicator for
some coffee. "Coffee Black" I ordered. Spirals of light emerged and out
came a cup of the only thing that got me through the academy Coffee! I took
a sip and headed in to the bathroom after stripping off I got in the shower
and within 15 minutes I was dressed in my new uniform ready to go. I packed
up my bedding and toiletries and finished my coffee. I checked the time and
saw that it was 06:00 I got my stuff together and headed out the door down
to the transporter that was just outside the door and had them transported
to the Oakland shipyard where they would be put in storage until I got
there. I then headed back up to the apartment and ordered Pancakes from the
replicator. Quickly eating them I returned the plate to the replicator and
headed out the door. I went to the transporter across the street and asked
the attendant to transport me to the Oakland Shipyard in orbit. Within
seconds I materialised in the transporter room of the shipyard. "Ensign
Jack Carter reporting. I'm here to take a shuttle with Captain Janeway." I
spoke to the commander that was here to meet me. "Yes Ensign I'm aware of
that. Your luggage that you transported up earlier is already aboard the
shuttle and Captain Janeway is waiting to meet with you in the observation
lounge before you depart." He told me. He led me to the observation lounge
where Captain Janeway was sitting with a cup in her hand. From the smell I
knew she was drinking coffee. As soon as she saw me arrive she stood up and
smiled. "Ensign Carter it's so good to meet you in person." She
said. "Thank you sir." I replied stood at full attention. "Jack at ease
before you hurt yourself. Ensign despite Starfleet protocol I don't like
being addressed as Sir. I much prefer Captain" I relaxed and smiled "Yes
Captain" I said. I sat down and she looked at me "I must say when I
reviewed your service file I was surprised that you only graduated from the
academy two weeks ago. I have at least another 2 officers that in the same
boat you are. You already know Alex Munro, I understand your friends. The
second being my new operations office, Ensign Harry Kim. I'm sure you three
will get along and be able to offer support to one another. But before we
depart for Voyager I wanted to tell you about your role on Voyager. You
will be working for Lieutenant Commander Andrew Nielson who is my chief
engineer and beneath him is Lieutenant Joe Carrey the assistant chief
engineer. I have spoken with them about you and they are eager to have you
on the team. Commander Nielson has therefore put you as the highest ranking
officer in engineering after both himself and Lieutenant Carey. In essence
you will be in charge if the two of them are not in engineering. However
the way the shifts work in engineering is very interesting. Both Commander
Nielson and Lieutenant Carey won't be on shift at the same time. Andrew
will run the primary shift and Joe will run the night shift. You Ensign are
being assigned to the primary shift so you will assist Andrew and making
sure that engineering runs smoothly. So you're going to be his right hand
man and he's going to rely on you." She explained to me. "Sounds fantastic
Captain I can't wait." I said. She smiled and finished her coffee before
rising and saying to me "Best get to the shuttle then hadn't we Jack we
don't want it to leave without us." I laughed and headed for the hanger. We
boarded the shuttle to see Alex completing the pre-launch checks "hey Alex
are we all set to go?" I asked. "Yep just waiting for the Captain to give
the order" he said. Captain Janeway walked in to the shuttle and sealed the
doors. "Well in that case Mr Munro take us to Voyager Warp 6." Ordered the
Captain. At that Alex took us out of the space dock and went straight to
warp. "We're on course for Deep Space Nine Captain ETA 3 hours 9 minutes."
Alex announced. "Very good ensign. Gives us some time to relax." The
captain said. I went to the replicator and ordered some coffee. "That's
what I like to see Ensign, a fellow coffee lover" said the captain. I
smiled and said "This is the only thing that kept me going throughout the
academy." I sat back in the co-pilots seat and started reading about
Voyager.
The time went by so quickly when Alex announced "We're approaching Deep
Space Nine Captain." "Very good Ensign, take us out of warp and lay in an
approach vector for Voyager." The captain ordered. He did so and soon I
could see a ship docked at one of the upper pylons "Is that her?" I
asked. "That's it Ensign, That's our ship, That's Voyager. Intrepid
Class. Maximum cruise velocity of Warp 9.975. 15 Decks. Computers augmented
with Bio-Neural Circuitry. So you should have fun on there ensign. Jack I
think I'd like you to announce my arrival on board. You know how to do that
don't you?" asked the captain. "Sure, thank you captain." I replied. Alex
docked the shuttle and we stepped off the shuttle. "Commanding Officer
Captain Kathryn Janeway arriving aboard ship" I announced. Everyone snapped
to attention. She stepped to the platform with the pad in her hand and
spoke "To Captain Kathryn Janeway: you are hereby requested and required to
take command of the USS Voyager as of this date. Signed Admiral Owen Paris
– Starfleet Command." She stepped down and went and spoke with her
senior staff. She ushered me across and I went down to her "Ensign Carter,
I'd like you to meet Commander Andrew Nielson, our Chief Engineer." I
extended my hand and he shook it "It's a pleasure to meet you sir." I
said. "Likewise Ensign. I'm glad Captain Janeway picked you at the last
minute. I'm sure we're going to get along fine. Let me show you to your
quarters." He said. He led me out of the shuttlebay and into a
turbolift. "I take it the captain explained the way the shift patterns
work." He asked. "Yeah she did" I replied. We arrived on Deck 6 and he led
me around a corner and stopped in front of a set quarters and tapped in a
code and the doors opened. I walked in and looked around and couldn't
believe the size of my quarters. They were huge. There was a small table
and chairs enough for two people set up. Across the width of the windows
was a long sofa that was built in to the units. Opposite them was a desk
with a computer console. Behind the console was a replicator. Through to
the next room was my big double bed with a chest of drawers. From there was
a door that led in to my bathroom that was comprised of a sink, with a
sonic shower and toilet. "I hope you find these quarters acceptable to you
Ensign" the commander said. I smiled and said "More than enough sir." He
turned and looked at me and said "Well I'll let you get settled in and
unpack your first duty shift is at 07:00 tomorrow morning but I will send
you your duty shifts for the next few weeks tonight." He said. He left and
I went to the shuttlebay and picked up the rest of my stuff and took it to
my quarters.
It took me around 3 hours to set everything up in the bathroom and my
bedroom and the rest of the quarters. I then started to replicate things
that I wanted in my quarters and placed them around. After 4 and half hours
I stood in the middle of my quarters and breathed a sigh of relief. I was
starving and was desperate for something to eat. I called Alex and asked
where his quarters were and he told me they were on Deck 6 section 7. That
was just around the corner from mine. I headed out my quarters and arrived
at Alex's quarters and pressed the panel to let Alex know I was here. He
told me to come in and I walked in to see him sat on his sofa drinking
coffee and looking very tired. I sat next to him and I said "Looks like
you've done well. Are you hungry? I need something to eat." He looked up
and said "oh yes I need to eat lets head to the mess hall it's on Deck 2."
We headed up to the mess hall and walked in and I went to a replicator and
ordered a ham and cheese baguette with crisps and a glass of coca cola. I
went and sat down and Alex joined me with his lunch and we got talking
about different things. After lunch he decided he would go down to security
and introduce himself and look around and I decided to head to sickbay to
get my physical out of the way. I walked in to sickbay and the doctor told
me to take a seat. He performed his scans and said to me "That's it Ensign,
you're healthy as you can be. But before you go I would like to just give
you some advice. I know your gay and I have no problem with that at all,
but if you do meet someone and you decide to have intimate relations then
please come see me so I can at least give you something. I will also note
it in your medical records so that if I'm not on duty and you have to see
the EMH then he knows as well." I smiled and said "Thanks Doc." I headed
out and decided to head down to Engineering. I walked in and looked
around. I couldn't believe I could play in here. There was the warp core
the AK-01 and we were going to be the first ship to test it in deep
space. Suddenly I was snapped out of my trance when someone came up to me
and said "Can I help you?" I turned around and saw a man in his mid 30's
looking at me with lieutenant pips. "Sorry" I said "I'm Jack Carter just
assigned here. I just thought I'd come take a look at what I'm going to be
working with." The guy smiled at me and said "Well I'm Joe Carey, the
assistant Chief Engineer and it's great to meet you Ensign, I've heard so
much about you." We continued to talk and he gave me a tour of the engine
room and what was going on, when Commander Nielson walked up. "Oh hey Jack,
what do you think? She's a beauty." I smiled and said "Yeah it's really
awesome." He laughed and said "Well tomorrow when you report for duty I
want you on the bridge monitoring the system checks and making sure things
are running smoothly. Most of the time you'll be up there if I'm down here
but I'll let you run the show down here from time to time." I laughed I
was going to love this.
2 WEEKS LATER!
I sat in my quarters watching a movie from the database trying to relax
before tomorrow. Tomorrow we were set to launch. The last 2 weeks had been
exhausting and I needed to chill out. I hadn't seen much of Alex as he had
been down in security getting the new hand weapons installed and
ready. According to the captain we were going to be departing at around
10:00 tomorrow. I checked the time and it was 22:00 and I decided to call
it a night. My shift started at 07:00 where we had to start checking
through the warp and impulse systems to get ready for departure. That night
I fell straight to sleep until the computer woke me up at 05:30. I got out
of bed and went to get in the shower. After around 20 minutes I was ready
so I headed up to the mess hall and looked around. I saw Joe Carey sat with
Andrew and I decided to replicate my breakfast and I walked over and sat
with them. At 07:00 I walked onto the bridge to see the overnight
commanding officer still sat in the captain's chair. He stood up and said
"Ensign Carter, the captain and first officer are in a meeting and she has
asked me to put you in charge of the bridge until their meeting is over." I
smiled and said "Okay, what's our status?" I asked. "Well we're still
preparing for departure. Ensign Kim and Crewman Paris will be coming on
board in around an hour. Have them report to the Captain when they do." He
told me. "I will sir." I replied. I sat down in the Captains chair and
couldn't believe I was here. The next hour went well. Finally at 08:00
Ensign Kim and Crewman Paris walked out of the turbolift and on to the
bridge. I stood up and looked around "Ensign Kim, Mr Paris welcome aboard
Voyager. I'm Ensign Carter. The captain and first officer are in the ready
room and want you to report to them immediately." I said. "Right. I'm
Harry... Harry Kim we were in the same class at the academy, if you want to
grab something to eat later that would be cool" He said to me. I smiled and
said "Yeah sure." They turned and went into the ready room and just as they
went in Commander Cavit came out "Ah Ensign thanks for watching the
Bridge. I don't know if you know but we're leaving spacedock in around 5
minutes as soon as Mr Kim and Mr Paris are done with the Captain." He
said. I didn't know but took my station and sure enough engines were at
standby and ready to go. After 5 minutes Mr Kim and Paris came out to the
bridge with the captain. She introduced them to Cavit and took Harry to his
station. 10 Minutes later we went to warp and were en-route to the
Badlands. That was the last time I saw my parents and Earth.
2 HOURS LATER!
After having spent the last 2 hours on the bridge then having lunch with
Harry and Tom and getting to know them really well we got called to the
bridge as we were approaching the badlands. We had a coherent graviton beam
scanning the ship. Harry tried to give an analysis but couldn't. That's
when commander Cavit recommended trying to disperse the graviton beam with
a graviton particle field. "Do it!" The captain ordered "Red Alert. Move us
away from it Lieutenant" she told the helmsman Everyone went to their
station. "New heading 41 mark 180" said Stadi. "Initiating Graviton Field"
came Cavit's voice from tactical. I was busy monitoring the warp field and
watching until it was stable enough to go to warp. "The graviton field had
no effect" came Harry's voice. That was it I thought with that displacement
wave moving towards us it was going to tear the ship apart. "Full Impulse"
Ordered the captain. "The wave will intercept us in 12 seconds" Harry
shouted. "Can we go to warp?" Janeway asked. "Not until we clear the plasma
fields' captain" I told her. "5 seconds" came Harry's voice. "Brace for
impact." The captain ordered "3..." Kim said. That's when I grabbed hold of
my console and never let go. Suddenly the whole place went white and I lost
sight of everything. I woke up with conduits sparking and the bridge
severely damaged. "Report?" Called the Captain. "Hull Breach deck 14,
comm. lines to engineering are down trying to re-establish" Called
Harry. "Repair crews seal off hull breach on Deck 14" ordered the
captain. "Aye captain" came a woman's voice over the comm. "Casualty
reports coming in... sickbay is not responding" said Lieutenant
Rollands. "Bridge to Sickbay.. Doctor Can you hear me?" asked the
captain. "Paris how's Stadi?" asked the captain. "She's dead" he told
her. "Captain there's something out there." Said Harry. I tried to check
the sensors but I couldn't get access. "I need a better description than
that Mr Kim" snapped the captain. I could tell she was seriously pissed
off. "I dunno.. I'm reading... I'm not sure what I'm reading" came Harry's
troubled voice. "Can you get the viewscreen operational?" asked the
Kathryn. "I'm trying..." said Harry. It sounded like he was going to
cry. Just then the viewscreen came alive and we saw a huge array sending
out some kind of pulse. We all stood in horror. "Captain... if these
sensors are working.. we're over 70,000 light years from where we just
were. We're on the other side of the galaxy!" Harry reported. My blood ran
cold and stood there in total shock. People started coming on to the
bridge to take away the wounded or dead. "I'm not reading any lifesigns on
the maquis ship" said Harry. "What about that... that array?" asked the
captain. "Our sensors can't penetrate it" said Harry. "Any idea what those
pulse's are that are coming from it Mr Carter?" the captain asked
me. "Massive bursts of radion energy... they seem to be directed to a
nearby G Type star system" I told her. "Harry try hailing the array." She
said. Just then I checked the console there was a warp core
micro-fracture. "Engineering to Bridge... we have severe damage... the
chief and assistant chief are both dead... we have no-one in charge down
here and we have the possibility of a warp-core breach." Called Crewman
Matthews. I immediately headed to the turbolift "Secure all Engineering
systems" the captain ordered "Ensign you and I are going to engineering, Mr
Kim get down to sickbay, Mr Rollands the bridge is yours" Ordered the
captain. She and I got in the turbolift and headed to Engineering. We got
there and I walked in to see people hurt and the computer shouting
"WARNING! WARP CORE MICRO FRACTURE BREACH IMINANTE!" I immediately went
down and said "Alright what's the warp core pressure?" Crewman Matthews
shouted "2100 kilo pastels and falling!" The captain ordered "Lock down the
magnetic constrictors." I turned to her and said "If we lock them down at
these pressure levels we may not be able to re-initialise the warp core"
She turned to me and said "We don't have a choice we've got to get the
reaction rate down before we try to seal it." And so I did my hands flew
over the console and I started to do my job. 20 minutes later I finished
sealing the breach. "Unlock the magnetic constrictors" The captain
ordered. I went to a console and worked the controls. "Constrictors
online." I said "Pressure?" The captain asked. "2500 kilo pastels and
holding" I smiled and then we heard the bridge call "We're being scanned by
the array captain. It's penetrated our shields" Rollands called. "What kind
of scan? Bridge Janeway to Bridge respond." The captain shouted. Just then
we saw people being transported to the out. "Initiate emergency lock off"
The captain ordered. But before I could the array took me and the captain
away.
I found myself walking around a corn field walking towards a large house
with my tricorder scanning. It looked like we were back on earth but my
reading indicated that we had only moved 100km. Inside the array. The
captain approached as she and Mr Paris talked I noticed some of the
engineering staff worried I went across and said "Calm down guys the
captain will get us out of this. I realise that you're all pretty rattled
at seeing Commander Nielson and Lieutenant Carey dyeing but please try to
be patient." Alex walked across "How are you holding up mate?" he
asked. "Fine except for the fact that over the space of a day I just became
the chief engineer." I said. "I know that pretty rough but you'll get
through it mate your tough as nails." I smiled. Just then we heard a voice
through the comm. "Paris to Janeway" "Janeway here... Paris... Come on" the
captain shouted. We all headed off with the captain with myself right
behind her. We approached a barn and headed inside to see the same woman
that had been trying offer out corn earlier. "Very well... seen as no one
cares for any corn... we'll have to proceed ahead of schedule." She
said. Just then the wall disappeared and we saw a group of people all
hanging against the walls with needles sticking in to their chests. I
turned around but before I could say anything I was transported and I
looked down and realised I was now in the same position as the
others. Lying in mid air with my feet against the wall. I was completely
naked except for being covered by some kind of sheet. I saw a needle above
come down and prick me in the chest and with that the pain was awful and I
started to scream out.. when I lost consciousness.
Suddenly I woke up and saw that I was back in engineering in my uniform
lying on the floor. "Janeway to bridge anybody there?" the captain called
through the comm. "Yes captain we're here." Came Mr Rollands. "How long
were we over there?" the Captain asked. "Almost 3 days" replied
Rollands. "3 days!" the captain sounded gobsmacked. "Captain... the maquis
ship is powering its engines" said Rollands. "Tractor them... All senior
officers report to the bridge immediately." The captain ordered. She turned
to me and said "Mr Carter until further notice I'm making you the chief
engineer on board... get the damage control teams organised and start
getting this ship repaired. You're in charge of all our repair
efforts. Report to me when you're done. Oh and I'm granting you a temporary
rank of Lieutenant Commander, but don't get used to it you won't be keeping
it." I smiled and said "Understood sir. Will you update the computer?" I
asked. "Computer access the crew roster and grant a temporary rank of
Lieutenant Commander to Ensign Jack Carter with all the privileges there
in." The computer responded by saying "Access granted to Ensign Jack Carter
with a level 7 security clearance on a temporary basis" "There you go
Ensign... good luck" the captain said. That's when it began. I started to
work round the clock.
Firstly I called up a damage report and started to hand out
assignments. When I heard that the captain was going over the array she
asked me to take the bridge as her highest ranking officer. I was more than
happy to obey. I took the bridge and watched as the repair crews I had
assigned to the bridge began working and I knew that things would start
going well. That was until the captain, Tuvok, Chakotay and one of the
maquis suddenly appeared on the bridge. "Captain?" I asked. "Don't worry
ensign just head back to engineering." She told me. I walked into the
turbolift and headed for engineering. As I walked into Engineering to get
back to work I noticed there was a maquis officer stood around waiting. I
stopped and looked him over. He was cute! He had short black hair that he
waxed, cute face with a perfect skin complexion. His body was toned and I
could tell from his outfit that he had a good body with a good set of
Pecs. He was around 6 foot and was the same build as myself. He saw me
walking in and turned to me and smiled. God he was cute and he by the looks
of things he was a big boy! I walked over to him and said "Can I help you
with something?" He looked at me and said "Are you Ensign Carter?" "Yes but
that doesn't answer my question which is firstly what are you doing in my
engine room and what do you want?" I replied. "I'm here because I was
looking for you and second I need to speak with you about replicating some
parts that we need to repair our ship. Or is that too much to ask of a
federation starship these days!" he said with a smirk on his face. "Watch
what you say mate or you can forget about me helping you with anything. I
don't appreciate hearing the federation bad mouthed by you or by anyone
else. Now if you want my help then you follow my orders is that
understood?" I said with a sinister tone in my voice. "Yes now do you have
somewhere we can go and sit and talk... maybe get a coffee?" he said. "My
office is this way follow me." I replied. He followed me to my office where
he walked in and sat down. "Can I get you something?" I asked. "Just coffee
would be fine." He said. I got two coffees and sat down at the desk. "I
apologise for my attitude before, it's just I shouldn't be the one trying
to sort this out it should left to B'Elanna Torres our chief engineer but
she was kidnapped by the array so it's left to me" he said."That's no
problem I'm not even meant to be the Chief Engineer here, the chief and the
assistant chief died when we were brought here by the array." I
explained. "And I'm sorry for shooting my mouth off in there. I haven't had
any sleep for about 36 hours." I added. "It's alright" he said giving me a
cute smile "I'm Tom... Tom Walker" he said "Jack Carter pleased to meet
you." I shook his hand and from that moment I knew there was something
between us. He gave me a pad and I read through noting what they
wanted. "Well Tom it's going to take the better part of a day to replicate
this stuff, in the mean time I believe the captain has had your ship dock
in the shuttlebay until your repairs are complete. Will you be staying on
board tonight?" I asked. "Yeah I've got quarters on Deck 7. It'll be nice
to have access to a replicator again. We've been on emergency rations for
weeks." He told me "Well if you want... I've been hoping to have someone
round to try out my replicator... let me make you dinner as a way of saying
sorry for going off on you before!" I asked. I was really pushing out the
boat here. It almost sounded like I was asking this guy out. I thought he
was gonna leap up and punch me. "Sure that would nice. Shall we say 20:00?"
he said "Yeah that sounds fine my quarters are on Deck 6 section 7." I said
"Sweet I'll see you there. Well I'm gonna head back to our ship see what
more I can get done before I go off duty. I finish at 19:00 so I'll see you
at 20:00" he smiled and then turned and left. I almost died. Here was the
cutest guy I'd ever seen (even more so than Alex) and he was coming to my
quarters for dinner. I ordered the materials replicated and headed back to
work. At 19:00 I went off duty and put Ensign O'Neil in charge of the night
shift until 07:00 when I came on shift.

Chapter 1: USS Voyager NCC 74656
"Mum, Dad I got in. I got in" I yelled. Both my mum and dad came running
through to the living room while I was looking over the computer console in
the living room. "I told you, you would get in" my mum told me. "I'm happy
for you son!" my dad told me. I remember that day like it was yesterday. It
was the day I got my acceptance letter come through from Starfleet
academy. That was almost 3 years ago. Today I'm an ensign who graduated
from the academy less than 2 weeks ago. I saw the look in my mum and dad's
eyes they were so happy when Admiral Jackson gave my first sold gold pip
that classified me as an ensign. Since that time I have been sending out
applications to as many Starfleet captains that were looking for
engineers. That's what I do I'm an engineer. I'm Jack by the way. Jack
Carter. Just to give you an idea about what I'm like I'm English. Born and
raised in London in a large house. I'm 5ft 11, medium build with shoulder
length blonde hair and bright blue eyes. I have soft clear skin and an
amazing smile. Oh and I'm gay which is not un-heard of and much more
accepted than it was in the late 20th and early 21st century.
So I was sat in my apartment in San Francisco that I was renting on a part
time basis until I was going to be assigned. It was around 20:30 in the
middle of April where I was just reading a book when my computer chirped. I
put my book down and headed over to my console expecting it be one of the
guys from the academy that I had made friends with. I had become really
good friends with a guy called Alex Munro whilst I was at the academy but
the difference between me and Alex was that he worked in security and he
was straight. But I didn't know that when I first met him and I thought he
was the cutest guy around and I had to do all I could from stopping myself
from jumping on him then and there.
So as I approached my console I sat down and tapped a control, a woman with
long red hair tied up in a bun with 4 pips on her collar in a red command
uniform. "Ensign Carter?" She asked. "Yes ma'am that's me how can I help
you?" I asked her. "Well ensign my name is Captain Kathryn Janeway and I'm
in command of the new federation starship Voyager. I received your
application to become part of my engineering staff and even though I've
already selected my crew compliment I would like to take you on. We are
launching in 2 weeks from Deep Space Nine in search of a maquis raider
where my chief of security was on board undercover. The mission should only
last for 3 weeks but from what I'm told Voyager is going to be sent on
various missions thereafter. Right now Voyager is en-route to Deep Space
Nine so I'm going to have a shuttle prepped and you and I will be leaving
for deep space nine first thing in the morning. Please be at the Oakland
Shipyards by 07:00." She told me. "Yes ma'am I'll be there. Thank you
Captain." I replied. "You're welcome ensign; I'd be a fool not to bring you
on this mission. Janeway Out" The comm. channel closed and I started to get
ready. I packed up my clothes and pads and sorted out the apartment and
made it tidy. The only thing I would need to do in the morning was pack my
bedding and toiletries and head out. I contacted the owner of the apartment
I was renting and he was happy for me to just leave the apartment in the
morning. I instructed the computer to wake me at 05:00 and headed in to the
shower. After finishing the shower I got in to my night clothes and put in
a call to my mum and dad. "Hey Jack how are you?" My mum asked. "I'm good
mum, really good in fact I've just been offered an assignment and I've
taken it. I'm going to be getting a position aboard the starship Voyager
under Captain Janeway as an engineer." I told her. "That's great son,
really great. When do you leave?" She asked. "Well I'm getting a shuttle at
07:00 tomorrow with Captain Janeway and heading to Deep Space Nine, but the
ship doesn't officially begin its mission for two weeks." I told her. "Well
that's good it gives your dad and I a chance to catch a transport to Deep
Space Nine before you leave." She told me. "Yeah that sounds great just let
me know when you're coming and I'll put in a shift request. Anyway mum I'm
going to head to bed, got to be up early. I love you and I'll see you
soon." I told her. "We love you to son and have a good trip with the
captain tomorrow" She said. I smiled and ended the transmission. I then put
in a call to Alex and he answered right away "This better be important Jack
I've gotta catch a shuttle at 07:00 to start my new assignment." He told
me. "Yes it is Alex and I'm getting a shuttle too so that I can start my
assignment on Voyager" I told him "What your being assigned to Voyager
that's awesome that means we're gonna be on the same ship. And that must
mean you're getting a shuttle with Captain Janeway and me from the Oakland
Shipyards right?" He asked me "Yeah I am. She called me about half an hour
ago and offered me a place. Right I'm heading to sleep and I'll see you at
the shipyard." I said. "Yeah see you in the morning mate." He said and
ended the transmission. I climbed in to bed turned out the lights and fell
asleep.
At 05:00 the computer woke me and I got up and headed to the replicator for
some coffee. "Coffee Black" I ordered. Spirals of light emerged and out
came a cup of the only thing that got me through the academy Coffee! I took
a sip and headed in to the bathroom after stripping off I got in the shower
and within 15 minutes I was dressed in my new uniform ready to go. I packed
up my bedding and toiletries and finished my coffee. I checked the time and
saw that it was 06:00 I got my stuff together and headed out the door down
to the transporter that was just outside the door and had them transported
to the Oakland shipyard where they would be put in storage until I got
there. I then headed back up to the apartment and ordered Pancakes from the
replicator. Quickly eating them I returned the plate to the replicator and
headed out the door. I went to the transporter across the street and asked
the attendant to transport me to the Oakland Shipyard in orbit. Within
seconds I materialised in the transporter room of the shipyard. "Ensign
Jack Carter reporting. I'm here to take a shuttle with Captain Janeway." I
spoke to the commander that was here to meet me. "Yes Ensign I'm aware of
that. Your luggage that you transported up earlier is already aboard the
shuttle and Captain Janeway is waiting to meet with you in the observation
lounge before you depart." He told me. He led me to the observation lounge
where Captain Janeway was sitting with a cup in her hand. From the smell I
knew she was drinking coffee. As soon as she saw me arrive she stood up and
smiled. "Ensign Carter it's so good to meet you in person." She
said. "Thank you sir." I replied stood at full attention. "Jack at ease
before you hurt yourself. Ensign despite Starfleet protocol I don't like
being addressed as Sir. I much prefer Captain" I relaxed and smiled "Yes
Captain" I said. I sat down and she looked at me "I must say when I
reviewed your service file I was surprised that you only graduated from the
academy two weeks ago. I have at least another 2 officers that in the same
boat you are. You already know Alex Munro, I understand your friends. The
second being my new operations office, Ensign Harry Kim. I'm sure you three
will get along and be able to offer support to one another. But before we
depart for Voyager I wanted to tell you about your role on Voyager. You
will be working for Lieutenant Commander Andrew Nielson who is my chief
engineer and beneath him is Lieutenant Joe Carrey the assistant chief
engineer. I have spoken with them about you and they are eager to have you
on the team. Commander Nielson has therefore put you as the highest ranking
officer in engineering after both himself and Lieutenant Carey. In essence
you will be in charge if the two of them are not in engineering. However
the way the shifts work in engineering is very interesting. Both Commander
Nielson and Lieutenant Carey won't be on shift at the same time. Andrew
will run the primary shift and Joe will run the night shift. You Ensign are
being assigned to the primary shift so you will assist Andrew and making
sure that engineering runs smoothly. So you're going to be his right hand
man and he's going to rely on you." She explained to me. "Sounds fantastic
Captain I can't wait." I said. She smiled and finished her coffee before
rising and saying to me "Best get to the shuttle then hadn't we Jack we
don't want it to leave without us." I laughed and headed for the hanger. We
boarded the shuttle to see Alex completing the pre-launch checks "hey Alex
are we all set to go?" I asked. "Yep just waiting for the Captain to give
the order" he said. Captain Janeway walked in to the shuttle and sealed the
doors. "Well in that case Mr Munro take us to Voyager Warp 6." Ordered the
Captain. At that Alex took us out of the space dock and went straight to
warp. "We're on course for Deep Space Nine Captain ETA 3 hours 9 minutes."
Alex announced. "Very good ensign. Gives us some time to relax." The
captain said. I went to the replicator and ordered some coffee. "That's
what I like to see Ensign, a fellow coffee lover" said the captain. I
smiled and said "This is the only thing that kept me going throughout the
academy." I sat back in the co-pilots seat and started reading about
Voyager.
The time went by so quickly when Alex announced "We're approaching Deep
Space Nine Captain." "Very good Ensign, take us out of warp and lay in an
approach vector for Voyager." The captain ordered. He did so and soon I
could see a ship docked at one of the upper pylons "Is that her?" I
asked. "That's it Ensign, That's our ship, That's Voyager. Intrepid
Class. Maximum cruise velocity of Warp 9.975. 15 Decks. Computers augmented
with Bio-Neural Circuitry. So you should have fun on there ensign. Jack I
think I'd like you to announce my arrival on board. You know how to do that
don't you?" asked the captain. "Sure, thank you captain." I replied. Alex
docked the shuttle and we stepped off the shuttle. "Commanding Officer
Captain Kathryn Janeway arriving aboard ship" I announced. Everyone snapped
to attention. She stepped to the platform with the pad in her hand and
spoke "To Captain Kathryn Janeway: you are hereby requested and required to
take command of the USS Voyager as of this date. Signed Admiral Owen Paris
– Starfleet Command." She stepped down and went and spoke with her
senior staff. She ushered me across and I went down to her "Ensign Carter,
I'd like you to meet Commander Andrew Nielson, our Chief Engineer." I
extended my hand and he shook it "It's a pleasure to meet you sir." I
said. "Likewise Ensign. I'm glad Captain Janeway picked you at the last
minute. I'm sure we're going to get along fine. Let me show you to your
quarters." He said. He led me out of the shuttlebay and into a
turbolift. "I take it the captain explained the way the shift patterns
work." He asked. "Yeah she did" I replied. We arrived on Deck 6 and he led
me around a corner and stopped in front of a set quarters and tapped in a
code and the doors opened. I walked in and looked around and couldn't
believe the size of my quarters. They were huge. There was a small table
and chairs enough for two people set up. Across the width of the windows
was a long sofa that was built in to the units. Opposite them was a desk
with a computer console. Behind the console was a replicator. Through to
the next room was my big double bed with a chest of drawers. From there was
a door that led in to my bathroom that was comprised of a sink, with a
sonic shower and toilet. "I hope you find these quarters acceptable to you
Ensign" the commander said. I smiled and said "More than enough sir." He
turned and looked at me and said "Well I'll let you get settled in and
unpack your first duty shift is at 07:00 tomorrow morning but I will send
you your duty shifts for the next few weeks tonight." He said. He left and
I went to the shuttlebay and picked up the rest of my stuff and took it to
my quarters.
It took me around 3 hours to set everything up in the bathroom and my
bedroom and the rest of the quarters. I then started to replicate things
that I wanted in my quarters and placed them around. After 4 and half hours
I stood in the middle of my quarters and breathed a sigh of relief. I was
starving and was desperate for something to eat. I called Alex and asked
where his quarters were and he told me they were on Deck 6 section 7. That
was just around the corner from mine. I headed out my quarters and arrived
at Alex's quarters and pressed the panel to let Alex know I was here. He
told me to come in and I walked in to see him sat on his sofa drinking
coffee and looking very tired. I sat next to him and I said "Looks like
you've done well. Are you hungry? I need something to eat." He looked up
and said "oh yes I need to eat lets head to the mess hall it's on Deck 2."
We headed up to the mess hall and walked in and I went to a replicator and
ordered a ham and cheese baguette with crisps and a glass of coca cola. I
went and sat down and Alex joined me with his lunch and we got talking
about different things. After lunch he decided he would go down to security
and introduce himself and look around and I decided to head to sickbay to
get my physical out of the way. I walked in to sickbay and the doctor told
me to take a seat. He performed his scans and said to me "That's it Ensign,
you're healthy as you can be. But before you go I would like to just give
you some advice. I know your gay and I have no problem with that at all,
but if you do meet someone and you decide to have intimate relations then
please come see me so I can at least give you something. I will also note
it in your medical records so that if I'm not on duty and you have to see
the EMH then he knows as well." I smiled and said "Thanks Doc." I headed
out and decided to head down to Engineering. I walked in and looked
around. I couldn't believe I could play in here. There was the warp core
the AK-01 and we were going to be the first ship to test it in deep
space. Suddenly I was snapped out of my trance when someone came up to me
and said "Can I help you?" I turned around and saw a man in his mid 30's
looking at me with lieutenant pips. "Sorry" I said "I'm Jack Carter just
assigned here. I just thought I'd come take a look at what I'm going to be
working with." The guy smiled at me and said "Well I'm Joe Carey, the
assistant Chief Engineer and it's great to meet you Ensign, I've heard so
much about you." We continued to talk and he gave me a tour of the engine
room and what was going on, when Commander Nielson walked up. "Oh hey Jack,
what do you think? She's a beauty." I smiled and said "Yeah it's really
awesome." He laughed and said "Well tomorrow when you report for duty I
want you on the bridge monitoring the system checks and making sure things
are running smoothly. Most of the time you'll be up there if I'm down here
but I'll let you run the show down here from time to time." I laughed I
was going to love this.
2 WEEKS LATER!
I sat in my quarters watching a movie from the database trying to relax
before tomorrow. Tomorrow we were set to launch. The last 2 weeks had been
exhausting and I needed to chill out. I hadn't seen much of Alex as he had
been down in security getting the new hand weapons installed and
ready. According to the captain we were going to be departing at around
10:00 tomorrow. I checked the time and it was 22:00 and I decided to call
it a night. My shift started at 07:00 where we had to start checking
through the warp and impulse systems to get ready for departure. That night
I fell straight to sleep until the computer woke me up at 05:30. I got out
of bed and went to get in the shower. After around 20 minutes I was ready
so I headed up to the mess hall and looked around. I saw Joe Carey sat with
Andrew and I decided to replicate my breakfast and I walked over and sat
with them. At 07:00 I walked onto the bridge to see the overnight
commanding officer still sat in the captain's chair. He stood up and said
"Ensign Carter, the captain and first officer are in a meeting and she has
asked me to put you in charge of the bridge until their meeting is over." I
smiled and said "Okay, what's our status?" I asked. "Well we're still
preparing for departure. Ensign Kim and Crewman Paris will be coming on
board in around an hour. Have them report to the Captain when they do." He
told me. "I will sir." I replied. I sat down in the Captains chair and
couldn't believe I was here. The next hour went well. Finally at 08:00
Ensign Kim and Crewman Paris walked out of the turbolift and on to the
bridge. I stood up and looked around "Ensign Kim, Mr Paris welcome aboard
Voyager. I'm Ensign Carter. The captain and first officer are in the ready
room and want you to report to them immediately." I said. "Right. I'm
Harry... Harry Kim we were in the same class at the academy, if you want to
grab something to eat later that would be cool" He said to me. I smiled and
said "Yeah sure." They turned and went into the ready room and just as they
went in Commander Cavit came out "Ah Ensign thanks for watching the
Bridge. I don't know if you know but we're leaving spacedock in around 5
minutes as soon as Mr Kim and Mr Paris are done with the Captain." He
said. I didn't know but took my station and sure enough engines were at
standby and ready to go. After 5 minutes Mr Kim and Paris came out to the
bridge with the captain. She introduced them to Cavit and took Harry to his
station. 10 Minutes later we went to warp and were en-route to the
Badlands. That was the last time I saw my parents and Earth.
2 HOURS LATER!
After having spent the last 2 hours on the bridge then having lunch with
Harry and Tom and getting to know them really well we got called to the
bridge as we were approaching the badlands. We had a coherent graviton beam
scanning the ship. Harry tried to give an analysis but couldn't. That's
when commander Cavit recommended trying to disperse the graviton beam with
a graviton particle field. "Do it!" The captain ordered "Red Alert. Move us
away from it Lieutenant" she told the helmsman Everyone went to their
station. "New heading 41 mark 180" said Stadi. "Initiating Graviton Field"
came Cavit's voice from tactical. I was busy monitoring the warp field and
watching until it was stable enough to go to warp. "The graviton field had
no effect" came Harry's voice. That was it I thought with that displacement
wave moving towards us it was going to tear the ship apart. "Full Impulse"
Ordered the captain. "The wave will intercept us in 12 seconds" Harry
shouted. "Can we go to warp?" Janeway asked. "Not until we clear the plasma
fields' captain" I told her. "5 seconds" came Harry's voice. "Brace for
impact." The captain ordered "3..." Kim said. That's when I grabbed hold of
my console and never let go. Suddenly the whole place went white and I lost
sight of everything. I woke up with conduits sparking and the bridge
severely damaged. "Report?" Called the Captain. "Hull Breach deck 14,
comm. lines to engineering are down trying to re-establish" Called
Harry. "Repair crews seal off hull breach on Deck 14" ordered the
captain. "Aye captain" came a woman's voice over the comm. "Casualty
reports coming in... sickbay is not responding" said Lieutenant
Rollands. "Bridge to Sickbay.. Doctor Can you hear me?" asked the
captain. "Paris how's Stadi?" asked the captain. "She's dead" he told
her. "Captain there's something out there." Said Harry. I tried to check
the sensors but I couldn't get access. "I need a better description than
that Mr Kim" snapped the captain. I could tell she was seriously pissed
off. "I dunno.. I'm reading... I'm not sure what I'm reading" came Harry's
troubled voice. "Can you get the viewscreen operational?" asked the
Kathryn. "I'm trying..." said Harry. It sounded like he was going to
cry. Just then the viewscreen came alive and we saw a huge array sending
out some kind of pulse. We all stood in horror. "Captain... if these
sensors are working.. we're over 70,000 light years from where we just
were. We're on the other side of the galaxy!" Harry reported. My blood ran
cold and stood there in total shock. People started coming on to the
bridge to take away the wounded or dead. "I'm not reading any lifesigns on
the maquis ship" said Harry. "What about that... that array?" asked the
captain. "Our sensors can't penetrate it" said Harry. "Any idea what those
pulse's are that are coming from it Mr Carter?" the captain asked
me. "Massive bursts of radion energy... they seem to be directed to a
nearby G Type star system" I told her. "Harry try hailing the array." She
said. Just then I checked the console there was a warp core
micro-fracture. "Engineering to Bridge... we have severe damage... the
chief and assistant chief are both dead... we have no-one in charge down
here and we have the possibility of a warp-core breach." Called Crewman
Matthews. I immediately headed to the turbolift "Secure all Engineering
systems" the captain ordered "Ensign you and I are going to engineering, Mr
Kim get down to sickbay, Mr Rollands the bridge is yours" Ordered the
captain. She and I got in the turbolift and headed to Engineering. We got
there and I walked in to see people hurt and the computer shouting
"WARNING! WARP CORE MICRO FRACTURE BREACH IMINANTE!" I immediately went
down and said "Alright what's the warp core pressure?" Crewman Matthews
shouted "2100 kilo pastels and falling!" The captain ordered "Lock down the
magnetic constrictors." I turned to her and said "If we lock them down at
these pressure levels we may not be able to re-initialise the warp core"
She turned to me and said "We don't have a choice we've got to get the
reaction rate down before we try to seal it." And so I did my hands flew
over the console and I started to do my job. 20 minutes later I finished
sealing the breach. "Unlock the magnetic constrictors" The captain
ordered. I went to a console and worked the controls. "Constrictors
online." I said "Pressure?" The captain asked. "2500 kilo pastels and
holding" I smiled and then we heard the bridge call "We're being scanned by
the array captain. It's penetrated our shields" Rollands called. "What kind
of scan? Bridge Janeway to Bridge respond." The captain shouted. Just then
we saw people being transported to the out. "Initiate emergency lock off"
The captain ordered. But before I could the array took me and the captain
away.
I found myself walking around a corn field walking towards a large house
with my tricorder scanning. It looked like we were back on earth but my
reading indicated that we had only moved 100km. Inside the array. The
captain approached as she and Mr Paris talked I noticed some of the
engineering staff worried I went across and said "Calm down guys the
captain will get us out of this. I realise that you're all pretty rattled
at seeing Commander Nielson and Lieutenant Carey dyeing but please try to
be patient." Alex walked across "How are you holding up mate?" he
asked. "Fine except for the fact that over the space of a day I just became
the chief engineer." I said. "I know that pretty rough but you'll get
through it mate your tough as nails." I smiled. Just then we heard a voice
through the comm. "Paris to Janeway" "Janeway here... Paris... Come on" the
captain shouted. We all headed off with the captain with myself right
behind her. We approached a barn and headed inside to see the same woman
that had been trying offer out corn earlier. "Very well... seen as no one
cares for any corn... we'll have to proceed ahead of schedule." She
said. Just then the wall disappeared and we saw a group of people all
hanging against the walls with needles sticking in to their chests. I
turned around but before I could say anything I was transported and I
looked down and realised I was now in the same position as the
others. Lying in mid air with my feet against the wall. I was completely
naked except for being covered by some kind of sheet. I saw a needle above
come down and prick me in the chest and with that the pain was awful and I
started to scream out.. when I lost consciousness.
Suddenly I woke up and saw that I was back in engineering in my uniform
lying on the floor. "Janeway to bridge anybody there?" the captain called
through the comm. "Yes captain we're here." Came Mr Rollands. "How long
were we over there?" the Captain asked. "Almost 3 days" replied
Rollands. "3 days!" the captain sounded gobsmacked. "Captain... the maquis
ship is powering its engines" said Rollands. "Tractor them... All senior
officers report to the bridge immediately." The captain ordered. She turned
to me and said "Mr Carter until further notice I'm making you the chief
engineer on board... get the damage control teams organised and start
getting this ship repaired. You're in charge of all our repair
efforts. Report to me when you're done. Oh and I'm granting you a temporary
rank of Lieutenant Commander, but don't get used to it you won't be keeping
it." I smiled and said "Understood sir. Will you update the computer?" I
asked. "Computer access the crew roster and grant a temporary rank of
Lieutenant Commander to Ensign Jack Carter with all the privileges there
in." The computer responded by saying "Access granted to Ensign Jack Carter
with a level 7 security clearance on a temporary basis" "There you go
Ensign... good luck" the captain said. That's when it began. I started to
work round the clock.
Firstly I called up a damage report and started to hand out
assignments. When I heard that the captain was going over the array she
asked me to take the bridge as her highest ranking officer. I was more than
happy to obey. I took the bridge and watched as the repair crews I had
assigned to the bridge began working and I knew that things would start
going well. That was until the captain, Tuvok, Chakotay and one of the
maquis suddenly appeared on the bridge. "Captain?" I asked. "Don't worry
ensign just head back to engineering." She told me. I walked into the
turbolift and headed for engineering. As I walked into Engineering to get
back to work I noticed there was a maquis officer stood around waiting. I
stopped and looked him over. He was cute! He had short black hair that he
waxed, cute face with a perfect skin complexion. His body was toned and I
could tell from his outfit that he had a good body with a good set of
Pecs. He was around 6 foot and was the same build as myself. He saw me
walking in and turned to me and smiled. God he was cute and he by the looks
of things he was a big boy! I walked over to him and said "Can I help you
with something?" He looked at me and said "Are you Ensign Carter?" "Yes but
that doesn't answer my question which is firstly what are you doing in my
engine room and what do you want?" I replied. "I'm here because I was
looking for you and second I need to speak with you about replicating some
parts that we need to repair our ship. Or is that too much to ask of a
federation starship these days!" he said with a smirk on his face. "Watch
what you say mate or you can forget about me helping you with anything. I
don't appreciate hearing the federation bad mouthed by you or by anyone
else. Now if you want my help then you follow my orders is that
understood?" I said with a sinister tone in my voice. "Yes now do you have
somewhere we can go and sit and talk... maybe get a coffee?" he said. "My
office is this way follow me." I replied. He followed me to my office where
he walked in and sat down. "Can I get you something?" I asked. "Just coffee
would be fine." He said. I got two coffees and sat down at the desk. "I
apologise for my attitude before, it's just I shouldn't be the one trying
to sort this out it should left to B'Elanna Torres our chief engineer but
she was kidnapped by the array so it's left to me" he said."That's no
problem I'm not even meant to be the Chief Engineer here, the chief and the
assistant chief died when we were brought here by the array." I
explained. "And I'm sorry for shooting my mouth off in there. I haven't had
any sleep for about 36 hours." I added. "It's alright" he said giving me a
cute smile "I'm Tom... Tom Walker" he said "Jack Carter pleased to meet
you." I shook his hand and from that moment I knew there was something
between us. He gave me a pad and I read through noting what they
wanted. "Well Tom it's going to take the better part of a day to replicate
this stuff, in the mean time I believe the captain has had your ship dock
in the shuttlebay until your repairs are complete. Will you be staying on
board tonight?" I asked. "Yeah I've got quarters on Deck 7. It'll be nice
to have access to a replicator again. We've been on emergency rations for
weeks." He told me "Well if you want... I've been hoping to have someone
round to try out my replicator... let me make you dinner as a way of saying
sorry for going off on you before!" I asked. I was really pushing out the
boat here. It almost sounded like I was asking this guy out. I thought he
was gonna leap up and punch me. "Sure that would nice. Shall we say 20:00?"
he said "Yeah that sounds fine my quarters are on Deck 6 section 7." I said
"Sweet I'll see you there. Well I'm gonna head back to our ship see what
more I can get done before I go off duty. I finish at 19:00 so I'll see you
at 20:00" he smiled and then turned and left. I almost died. Here was the
cutest guy I'd ever seen (even more so than Alex) and he was coming to my
quarters for dinner. I ordered the materials replicated and headed back to
work. At 19:00 I went off duty and put Ensign O'Neil in charge of the night
shift until 07:00 when I came on shift.
