Guild Wars 2 and SweetFX

December 01 2012
I saw a few people with graphics that surpass what I'm seeing when I play at max settings in GW2. I learned that they use something called SweetFX. This is an injector that enhances the graphics on your screen through your DirectX client. It does not alter any files associated with GW2. There have been posts asking for Anet to verify if it's a bannable offense to use SweetFX, but Anet is not able to validate third party programs as it would take up too much time. A response from one of the Anet Mods states the following in response to using SweetFX:

Mark Katzbach
Our development team is not able to review third-party programs to assess their components or give them any sort of approval. We make our policies clear in our User Agreement, Rules of Conduct, and the Conduct Breaches and Outcomes document, which you can find in the Legal Documentation section of our website: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/ You should know the following:
1. If you chose to use any third-party program, you do so at your own risk.
2. We cannot offer support if the third-party program impacts Guild Wars or Guild Wars 2 and, for instance, makes the game unplayable.
3. If you choose to use what you believe to be a “benign,” or non-advantage-giving program, be sure to get it from a legitimate source to protect yourself from the possible addition of cheats or key-loggers.

The best way for a player to assess whether a specific third-party program could have any impact on another player or a PvP opponent is to ask:
• “Does this program allow someone to play faster, better, longer, or more accurately than someone who doesn’t use it?”
• “Does this program allow someone to ‘play’ when he/she is not at the computer?”
• “Does this program allow the user to gain undeserved rewards?”

If you'd like to use it, go to: http://www.guru3d.com/files_tags/sweetfx.html
I used the following preset for GW2: http://sweetfx.thelazy.net/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/SweetFX_settings.txt

I decided to give it a try... WOW... what a difference!

I was tempted to give it a go but the installed files are compressed into a format which I can't unzip. And I haven't installed a third party unzipper for years :P

Still it certainly seems to make the colours more "true" on your screenshots.

Winrar is the extraction tool I use. I haven't used anything else for years.

Please let me know what you think! I think it's amazing how much detail it brings out from the game. =) It's a lot more noticeable when you're playing it yourself... can't really see the graphics in the screens.

I kid you not... I just did a fresh install of windows 8 and loaded up Guild Wars 2... I was like... "What is wrong with my graphics... they must be on low." I made sure everything was set at max and it still looked off. Then I remembered... Sweetfx!!! It really does make a world of a difference! I didn't know how much until now lol. Anyone who tries it... let me know what you think!
