Fan Art not really fiction ...

Thinking this is best place for this could be wrong ...

One of the most impactful star trek episodes (TOS) was the black white, white black episode ... that is I think entiled Let that Be Your Last Battlefield. As a kid this episode intrigued me ... long before I understood civil rights etc ... as an adult I would come to understand the implications .. one that as a white gay woman having a black straight male best friend; I found it would test my parents, my friends, and lovers who preach non racial bias but didn't always stand by it (IMHO).

Dee and I got to be roommates and friends for over 20 years .. when one of us was dating we tended to move away from our typically shared domicile, in order for our romance to bloom, and on failure ... LOL we were roommates again.

Its coming up on the 5th year of my best friend's death... he so would have loved this game, he missed the ending of battlestar, he would have loved dollhouse, he would have loved felicia day, so much he missed that when I watch things I think of him. I think I am going to keep this outfit until near the end of october in rememberance of him, that episode, and my personal feeling that the world is not as whole as Gene Roddenberry envisioned. (FYI I debuted this about 2 days ago in some fleet events already seeing copy cats to it lol!)

The wikia to the episode I am referring to...

I remember watching that episode too... like you, long before I understood the significance of the story and the social commentary it was making.

I saw an interview with Majel Barrett many years later, in which she said that they wouldn't have been able to discuss issues like racial segregation openly in the shoe, so, in order to get it past the censors, they dressed them pair up as aliens and painted one side white, the other black.

What I've always appreciated about Star Trek, is how they addressed contentious social issues in this way.

Also, I think the uniform makes a touching tribute :)

Majel Barret is my fixation .. well the later years with her and Odo on DS9 etc .. did you know there was a love triangle tween majel and nichelle nichols and gene . but nichelle broke it off so as not to hurt gene's career (cause of her color) and star trek .. I read that in tv guide many years ago . still strikes me to this day ...(and of course the first interacial kiss was star trek .. rock on)
