Isn't there a flaw in this poll, in that the pro-backup vote is split among candidates, and no-backup vote just has one choice?

That is a very good point, a simple "yes" or "no" poll would have probably been more efficient. We can simply just take "no" versus the rest, though :) Same results.

... Time is against us and I have a feeling that "yes" would beat "no" if I made a simple poll. So instead I have made a server choice with an option for "none".

Based on his original post - you can vote No or you can vote Yes and suggest a server. If No is the verdict then we're done. If Yes is the verdict - then the guild has additional consensus on which servers to consider.

That's how I read it.

Yeah that's what I tried to explain in the original post (but I suck).

Voting for a server choice counts as a "Yes" vote so, at this moment, "Yes" beats "No" 14-7. With Ferguson's Crossing being the server of choice with 7 votes.

I'll leave it open until later tonight and confirm the decision.

Arenanet announced more info on launch, a few quotes:

At launch, players will be able to transfer between worlds freely. However, once server populations have largely settled and stabilized, world transfers will be restricted to once a week and cost a variable amount of gems based on the population of the world being transferred to.

In time, we’ll also introduce free “guesting,” which will allow players to visit other worlds as guests as long as they have friends on those worlds. This feature will be free, but guest players will not be able to enter World vs. World, and the Power of the Mists bonuses from their home world will continue to apply to their characters.

The difficulty for me is that I have several friends in a guild on Jade Quarry. I'm a bit torn because I want to be with you guys, but also want to play with them. Unfortunately, it seems I will have to create 2 toons on separate servers since the "guesting option" won't be available right away.

With the way "Home Worlds" work in GW2, I don't think you can create a toon on 2 separate servers. Your account is linked forever to the first server you create a character on (unless you transfer). I believe they did this because of WvW.

So, until guesting is implemented, people will be confined to where they roll first.

If you want to roll with your friends Xcentric then go for it. As much as I'd love you to join us on CD, life isn't perfect and you should roll wherever you think you'll be playing most (or perhaps who you want by your side in WvW).

You're still welcome in the guild to chat or guest to us whenever you like.

I don't think it'll be too long before guesting is activated.

Thanks Halish, but gah. annoying. The WvWvW thing complicates it too. Because this guild will be far more likely to be involved in that than my friends on the other server. Plus i'd hate to not be on the big gay server. sigh. I wonder how long guesting will take.

Does anyone know if you can change servers if you delete all your toons? not that I'd want to.

Apparently there is a good chance that guesting is not going to be available at launch, but instead free transfers will be offered. However, due to Crystal Desert maybe becoming full there can be an issue were the guild fragments into multiple realms.

It has already been stated by ArenaNet that when someone is on a different realm not only they cannot WvWvW with others, but guild influence is separated from them entirely. Which mean perks, bonuses and guild bank are not shared between realms.

It seems that people are unaware of the issue, because in this topic people are wanting to have no backup server

If think we really need to establish one soon, officially... stated by the officers. Because if not, there's a very good chance that the guild will branch out in multiple servers... being very fragmented.

Free transfers in beta had a cooldown, so say if someone wanted to help someone in the guild they would have to use a free transfer and then discover they cannot come back to crystal desert for 3 days. If the guild is really fragmented, that 3 day cooldown essentially means you can only play with one person every 3 days.

While there is no confirmation about transfers being on a cooldown, I still think we should plan for the worst. Even if there is no cooldown, anyone who transfers cannot go back to Crystal Desert due to it being full.

So it's just better overall to declare a backup server and have 2 communities in case, that way no one has to worry about transfering to help others.

So please, officially set one up to be visible by everyone so that way we don't have guild members who can't play with us and end up leaving :(

Ok, let's close this up.

Here are the results to the poll:

None, we don't need an "official" back up server7
Yak's Bend2
Maguuma2
Jade Quarry2
Stormbluff Isle2
Fort Aspenwood1
Sea of Sorrows1
Northern Shiverpeaks1
Fergusons's Crossing7

Doing some quick math .. ow my head..

Yes19
No7

So let's go with Ferguson's Crossing as our "temporary" back-up server. I would request that if you speak to any members and they're struggling to get onto Crystal Desert you don't immediately point them to the back up server.

Let's try to get as many people as possible onto the real server and if they do decide to go back up, please try and explain that they may end up paying to move later.

I will post this as part of the server "news" on the front-page and also in the Crystal Desert confirmation thread. I won't create a new thread to announce it because I don't want to risk confusing people who may glance across the forums.
