Home server confirmed: Crystal Desert

August 15 2012

ArenaNet has announced the launch list of servers for Guild Wars 2.

Because our first choice "Eternal Grove" is missing from the list, the unofficial GBLT server has defaulted to our second choice "Crystal Desert". As such we have decided to stay with out GBLT friends and use this server as our "home" server when the game launches on August 28th (25th for headstart).

I would like to thank all of our members for their feedback and support during the server discussions and also for their patience. It's never nice to have to "stall" a decision but now that we have the official server list we can finally move forward.

To all new and future members of the Stonewall Vanguard, Welcome. I look forward to seeing and playing with you all (at some point) in game.

For those not up on the lore, the Crystal Desert is located in the south of Tyria, originally part of the Crystal Sea, before the fall of the god, Abaddon. The Crystal Desert connects Elona to the south and had at one point been ruled by the Primeval Kings.

Extra points for not picking a server with a suggestive name

Hate to bring this up again, but Thrumdi's post reminded me of it, have we decided on an emblem yet:) or the process through which we will select one?

I think that's a good idea. If we're going to be on a crowded server, we should at least have some weight to throw around.

The emblem is the first thing I'm going to try and unlock for the guild when the game launches. Once that is done I will create a new thread for a "real" emblem design contest.

The first thread will be for people to post their entries (as many as they like) and then once a certain amount of time has passed (a week or two?) I'll create a new thread for voting. Depending on the number of entries, I may get the officers to select their "favourites" before the vote but if we don't have that many then I'll probably just throw them all up.

This seems the best way to create an emblem which was created and chosen by the guild and not me or my officers :) Hopefully you'll all have a attachment to it.

Once we have decided on the emblem I can start plastering it all over this website, hurray! :)

Rough Trade has registered at GW2Guilds. Here is their page.
Should we do the same?

The cat is out of the bag. So yes, i think we should do the same.

Ok I've added us to the GW2Guilds website. Once they've "approved" it, I'll post the link here.

Remember in the other thread when I said these sites are not fit for purpose? Well I stand by that. [strike]There is no way to set us up as a world-wide guild. We have to declare that we're US because we're on a US server (even though they have two totally different options, location and server) [/strike]*Just noticed they do have an international option  *.

They ask what voice communication we use (I selected Ventrilo) but don't give us anyway to explain it's purpose or requirement (maybe in my guild it's required for events?). Yes they let us pick between casual and hardcore but that's about as complex as it gets, are all guilds exactly the same? do they all fit a certain "role"? apparently so.

They have the option for a minimum age but don't give the option for other membership requirements. Perhaps I want only people who have achieved level 80? or maybe my guild requires only Mesmers?

The entire purpose of the website is to help people find guilds but their options are about as basic as basic gets and basically it comes down to you having to read the text and go to their website to really find out about the guild, which is no different then posting on the other websites. And I very much doubt it'll improve from now until the end of time.

It's not fit of purpose but like I said, I've added the guild. Mini-rant over lol

Note: I've spoken none-truths as examples. We don't require you use Ventrilo or are a Mesmer :p

Minimum age:1.
Well, it is good to see you don't discriminate, Halish!
Either way, i believe this site provides information and stats as opposed to a place to shop for guilds. It doesn't have to be too specific due to the fact most guilds have a website with all of the information somebody in the market for a new guild would ever need! By the way, i think Crystal Desert is looking very balanced population wise, well, as far as the information on this site goes. Good pick :).

The Ascension/Team Legacy alliance is moving to Northern Shiverpeaks for launch from CD. This should free up some space.

This is perfect, it leaves more guilds like use i believe, with a couple of alliances. Bye-Bye Team Legacy and your followers :D

Nice bio for the guild, but... It struck me that the sentence containing unlike may be interpreted as being a negative statement by some folks (although that is not the intent). Something along the lines of 'as an alternative to', or maybe just dispense with the comparison altogether.

"Our community was founded on the principle of community and equality and therefore, unlike other GLBT guilds, we allow everyone to join even if they're under eighteen..."

That's really good news! I have a feeling that a lot of hangers-on will follow them there as well.

Gayme0n, RT/Taint, Stonewall Vanguard are going to be a nice alliance by themselves! Add in some form of communication/informal alliance, or even an alliance possibly, with Synergy we will be a tough server to beat!

LGBT people are survivors! We got the focus to win! Let's do it!

I did a little checking and found that The Prismatic Order will also be on Crystal Desert

Well, the thread at Guru on CD was shut down after being hijacked by one vociferous moron. I'm still mystified these people exist in 2012. I guess they're kept mothballed in a basement somewhere.

One good thing to come of it though was a member of the Synergy Alliance (the remaining big 500+ alliance on CD) stepped in to defend us. So, it looks like we will have many allies on the server.

This should make WvW a blast.

I was posting on that thread, a large amount of people were defending us, and those who attacked us in the beginning actually saw our side of things (except one hypocrite). It was a good discussion, and should not have been declared a "Flame War" and shut down.

As of typing this Crystal Desert is full, eek!
Went to join the server today and it's now among the 6 full servers.

Check it every now and then. It may say full now, but when I got on it, it also said full. I checked it a little later and it was just high, so I was able to get on. I think it fluctuates based on the time of day and how many people logged on.
