Crystal Desert full?

August 11 2012
Hi all,

I hopped onto GW2 to try out the stress test, but saw that our home realm, Crystal Desert, was full. I'm guessing (and hoping!) that only refers to this particular stress test, and that I'll still be able to join everybody by making a character on Crystal Desert when the game goes live ... but if anyone knows for sure, I'd love the confirmation!

Thanks,
Mel

Don't worry! All characters and stuff get erased before launch, so people will choose their server and stuff again at launch!(headstart)

Crystal Desert was selected as the server during BWE3 and remains it due to the stress test not being wiped yet, but yes as stated there will be a wipe.

I have no clue atm if we will be choosing a new home server come launch however, if we do there will be a post here on the forums about it.

Being totally honest, I think it's looking more and more likely that we will be sticking with Crystal Desert when the game launches but we do have to wait for the official server list.

I mean they said that the current Stress Test server is close to the launch list but adding just "Eternal Grove" back to that list would still make that statement correct. I hate the way companies keep people in the dark and would just rather they made a decision early so we can plan accordingly.

One of the LGBT guilds, Gayme 0n, originally selected Darkhaven as the official LGBT guild (after Eternal Grove was removed) and when everyone started kicking off about that, I was in discussion with the the leader of Gayme 0n and Rough Trade.

Rafeal is the leader of Rough Trade and he was almost in a state of panic trying to organise a server choice that would keep everyone happy. Hang on let me quote the email he sent me during our conversations.

What do you guys think about Crystal Desert as the OFFICIAL LGBT Server period? We need a quick response to get this message out. If you guys jump on board all I have to do is get Gayme On, as well?

He asks me and I ok'd it, this is before he had discussed this with the leader of the WvW centric guild Gayme 0n. We later decided to wait for Eternal Grove and use Crystal Desert as a back up server (not exactly the way to go if their main desire all along as to force us onto a WvW server).

When Crystal Desert was selected it was before it became a "WvW world" (though I refuse to accept that definition) and people were happy with the choice (for the most part, we all miss Eternal Grove).

Remember this was all done on the eve of a BWE event and we had to try and get everybody in the right place. It's looking more and more likely that despite it's problems Crystal Desert will be the official GBLT server, with or without us.

If we can't accept that then the only choice we have is to break away from them and go it alone. Which I'm open to discuss, although I think it wouldn't be in our interests in the long run. GBLT servers have worked well in other games, and a game which requires co-operation as much as Guild Wars 2 does, it can only be a good thing to have an extended GBLT community.

I'm going to make a thread later to discuss the "back up" server idea and hopefully come to some sort of consensus about what to do with he "full server" problem (for the short term).

Because I'm on my iPad and don't want to retype this is a repost. I would like to add that even at full and long into the BW it only took a few minutes of trying to get in a server. ANet will be adjusting as release unfolds. Release days are always like this.

I dunno I don't see CD as obviously over populated..

There are few alliances or guilds that can truly have a numbers impact on a server. Ascension and Team Legacy because of their huge followings from the Tales of Tyria podcast. Are one of these exceptions. Not to mention the hardcore PvP/WvW folks they attract.

They have been on CD throughout Beta, I think this is a big reason why CD has the following it does. Because of so many people following them around they plan on moving, this alone is going to dramatically change the server.

I also don't see it as over populated because ANet has been fudging the numbers all along to control population. What we see the moment of release is not what we'll see 30 days from now. I just don't want a permanent solution to a very temporary problem.

Since we're talking about it, are we going rogue and don't plan to joining the GLBT community? That of course is another part of the equation.

Anyway I don't want to give the impression I'm tied to CD, I just don't want to be on a dead server because I know low pop today means dead within a year..
