For my main the naming convention I use is Lady GaGa

Capital Ships are names after albums, shuttles are named after songs, and the middle bits are named after Lady GaGa related peoples or themes.

I'm constantly, idiotically amused by my new Orion alt's naming convention: onomatopoeic expressions of indifference. The I.K.S.es M'eh, B'lerg, En'h, G'uh, etc etc.

I went through the process of renaming all my ships last week. they're all named for songs by Clutch, with my main one being the USS Pure Rock Fury.

But ever since i joined i keep seeing people who apparently WISH they could name their ship "Enterprise" and instead end up using variations of the name. I'm thinking of naming my NEXT ship (when I decide to get one) "EnterToWinAPrize" as a parody of that phenomenon.

Originally I went with locales important to me, cities, suburbs, so on. Now (as a Mass Effect obsessive) I am using a lot of Asari names; Aria, Liara, Thessia, T'loak.

Next up is the Benezia.

I name my ships after dragons from World of Warcraft, minus the actual aspect dragons themselves

By the way, I name my ships and characters after books I enjoyed, mainly Hyperion by Dan Simmons and Dune by Frank Herbert.

So my main is named Leto Atréides II aboard the tactical retrofit U.S.S. Hyperion (or the heavy escort carrier U.S.S. Yggdrasil).

Right now EVERY SHIP on EVERY TOON is named some kinda of way as the USS Pat Benatar ... not very star trekkie .... but a touch of me ... and not very original... maybe as more alts get more ships I will just do a female rock and roll theme lol .. the USS Lita Ford .. the USS Joan Jett ... the USS Halestorm or USS Lzzy

My naming policy has been something really cool, and Japanese. Mainly I have ended up with two for the most part; Kiri Kudashi, and Tomoe Gozen. Kiri Kudashi is the killing strike, and Tomoe Gozen was the wife, and field general, of a feudal Japan daimyo. She, when ordered to retreat when the city they lived is was being taken, rode a horse in to the enemy formation, and took the main field officer's head before following her troops and husband in retreat. Good roll model!
All my shuttles are the default names because I don't seem to care about the names of the names of them that much.

I like to name my ships based on noted scientists of the years.. being a science geek/toon..

Though I started with lots of different names.. I started renaming older ships with generally anything just so my current ship is always the U.S.S. TESLA. Just love that name..

Though my shuttle is called U.S.S. Scuttler

The film was amazing and went a long way to naming my ship "USS Chris McCandless (AKA the fleets "Pink Bull")

I often play this particular song in the background of STO, from time to time. :)
