advertistin on fleets

April 19 2012
This will be a touchy subject for some .. as we don't want folks to join that are just looking for a big guild .. but I have heard in our voice chat leaders and majors speak of wanting to start perhaps a 'spam campaign' ... again I dont think they mean like other guilds that don't have a unification reason like us. But it would be a recruiting project which can be good and bad ...

Now some may cringe at me bringing this up and trust me I thought hard before I did ... and I know that advertising a certain way lends us to ridicule and camping issues in pvp .. I have already seen this in pvp where I saw a guy not noticing me .. say .. well when I see rough trade or rough anything I just kill them first .. and he was on my freaking team rofl! So there gonna be some gay haters ...

So not asking for us to do anythig different than we are ... but since I heard it mentioned once in vent ... think of both sides .. i will follow our decisions ...but openly recruiting kinda scares me ...it sucks that I have to even say this .. but just wanted to maybe open a dialogue.

thanks

Thanks Lace. I am so against a spam campaign. I will have no part in it.

I am not absolutely certain because it would depend on what was actually intended or done in regards to a "spam campaign" but I believe something of this nature would be a violation of the Code of Conduct. It's one thing to advertise for new members on a guild forum which is the usual way of recruiting and another thing entirely to spam a chat or vent channel and "address" individuals in particular. I would view that as "conduct unbecoming a member of Stonewall" which could end in removal from the guild depending on the degree of the offense. I have the same opinion of this type of activity as Rybo, I want no part of it. :(

I'm not a fan of Spamming in general chat to try and recruit players. Most intelligent players avoid any guild that does this and is likely to report the player for doing it.

I've had several people notice the "Stonewall" in the name of our guilds and ask me if we are GLBTA and if they can join. I think our guild name above our head is a great way to attract interest from players who know what the name Stonewall stands for without provoking any of the haters. I hope that everyone would take time to answer any questions they get from players asking about our name and direct them to our website.

I've also created a host of new recruitment threads on the forums of every GLBTA gaming website I can find, including a new one on the SW:TOR forums.

With the general slump in players that is normal for games at this stage, it's unlikely that we are going to see a huge increase in new recruits, but I think it's important for us to be as visible as possible for the people who are looking for a guild like us. There is also the "guild honeymoon" factor, where players get bored or upset with their first choice of guild and decide to try a new one, so I hope we can provide a home for those players too.

Zepari that's exactly how I found out about this guild... I just flew by a fleet member and asked them if Stonewall was a LGBT guild!

I found out about this guild in the early days of STO. I searched on the forums for a gay-friendly guild, and everyone here seemed, well, gay and friendly. But I had also seen them in-game and had grouped up with members before that on different missions. That's really what made me check Stonewall out on the forum.
