Swoop Racing

I was browsing some ToR blogs and I ran across this article:

It seems that a guild has developed a few courses and a whole system for swoop racing in game. They seem to have it going pretty hardcore, but I think we could borrow a map or two for a fun event sometime. I only have the 90% increase mount, so I would probably lose... But if there is some interest in this kind of thing, I thought it might be fun.

I find this very interesting and give them kudos for coming up with the idea.

The only down side is that the video they use to promote the races only illustrates how painfully slow BioWare made mounted travel in SW:TOR. They had to speed up the video at parts to give it the feel of what Star Wars was really like (you can see this when you catch glimpses of people on foot or in combat in the background).

I've you've played City of Heroes, and seen a Superspeed hero at level 50 with his travel power fully enhanced... THAT should be what Speeder travel is like. That's the one thing I miss about CoH... travel was painless because you could get around so fast.

Looks like a lot of fun and yes something that would be a hoot to have as a guild event.

I do not mind the travel speed in game, but then I'm not trying to rush from place to place and I spend to much time stopping to look at stuff or mine a nod or pick an herb.
If you think this is slow try Rift and the 110% fast mounted speed makes walking seem fast.

I love this idea. It would be a great way to not only build a stronger bond between our guild members but we could also begin to build more relationships with the other guild on our server such as Rough Trade. I think this is a very creative and fun way to add a new element to the game. Who knows maybe they will implement swoop racing as a game element later but for now this can be a fun way to get together and blow off some steam as a guild.

So at any rate I am in. I am not at a level yet to get on Alderaan safely for instance but we can start with their Nar Shaddaa map because it is neutral space. Who would be up for helping me to organize this event for maybe this Sunday?

I'll help get things organized. Maybe the first time we just try it out with our guild, and if it goes well we can reach out to other guilds and do a big event sometime. Sunday should work for me too.
