Odyssey Class Release

January 26 2012
STO's 2nd Anniversary event starts on Feb 2 (that's a week from this Thursday), which will also see the release of the long-awaited Odyssey-class starship. They just released some of the specs, here:

Odyssey-class Specs

However, the big news is that the Anniversary weekend will feature an event where any character at Level 5 or above will be able to acquire the ship for free. The ship cannot be operated until the character reaches Vice Admiral, but they can get it at pretty much any time and just wait until they reach VA.

When I read this, for some reason I immediately thought of this:

Yeah, I saw this post yesterday. I am so excited! I am not sure if I will make this my main ship (not quite liking the turn rate). Loving the universal ensign and lt. cmdr bridge officer slots.

I think a sci officer would feel at home in this ship since it still offers some decent science console space and room for sci officer abilities

Can you still pick this up for free or is just during the 2 year anniversary event? I see that it is for sale in the C Store.

It was just for the 2 year Anniversary Event. Now, it's C-Store or nothing.

Oprah lied to me?! /cry http://www.quickmeme.com/meme/35t44p/

I'll have to plop down the money to get one, 'cause I want one! :)

I actually just bought the Fed 3 pack and I'm still toying with how to set up the ship. Anyone have any suggestions? Types of weapons, shields, consoles, etc...

So should I save my Cryptic points for an Odyssey Science Cruiser, or a D'Kyr Science Vessel? I'm looking for my next purchase, mindful of how painfully often I get creamed by the Borg.

The OSC's hull rating is impressive, but its turn radius is less so. In comparison the D'Kyr is more nimble and has stronger shields. Both the OSC and D'Kyr have auxiliary vessels that provide repair and combat capabilities.

I'm leaning towards the D'Kyr, partially for aesthetics, but I'm willing to let an Odyssey fan talk me out of it. ;)

I would say the Nebula or Intrepid Class would be better for you.

The ody is like flying a small moon, the sci recon is a far better ship. The Nebula I haven't used much, still I'm the biggest Intrepid booster here, it not big but fast, smart, and blow up damn near anything.

I kinda liked the LRSVs too--one of my ships, the USS Lilith's Brood, is a Discovery class LRSV. But I'm really loving my current ship, the USS Lathe of Heaven, which is a Polaris-class Reconn. And I'm loving it even more as I get a better understanding of which weapons and consoles work best with it. But now I'm starting to give the ARV a second glance, and in its retrofit it does look like a relatively good tank in comparison. So maybe I'll get that.

I kind of like the D'Kyr if only for its little healing pet.

It depends on how you want to play mostly.

Each of those mentioned has good and bad sides.

Many love the Intrepid and its variants.

The Nebula I heard mixed comments about. Chris of the STOked podcast was a big Sci player. And never really liked the Nebula class.

The Oddysey itself is very much a Cruiser in any of its 3 forms and should be treated as such.

I would actually suggest saving up C Points towards the Oddysey Pack. Get all 3 versions. But wait for Cryptic to do a sale like they did for First Contact Day. 4,000C is a hell of a lot.
The advantage with getting all 3 though is that you get the "proper" Oddysey then. Using all 3 special Consoles on 1 ship gives you a buff to Turn Rate. It is still slow, but better. The Saucer Seperation for more agility and the Aquarius Escort.
And of course if you unlock all 3 then you have them across all future Alts as well.

Not to add more of a headache to your choices but you have one other very Tanky ship with a strong Sci leaning. The Atrox Carrier...
Now that is a very different beast. Huge and slow like the Oddysey but it does give you more of a Sci ability then the Oddysey itself...

TL:DR. How do you want to fly? Fast, agile and in the mix? Intrepid. Hanging back and supporting from range? Oddysey/Atrox.
Nebula: Doesn't seem as potent for the cost. D'Kyr: Unknown but falling out of favour in space it seems...

Gee, Sam, that helped. :P ;)

So it sounds like you're arguing for either of my original suggestions--Odyssey or Atrox. Both have great hull strength. But I really want to know about how well it works to have the option of a carrier--has anyone flown one, and is it worth it to have fighters at your command?

Also, I'm not quite sure I follow your comment. Are you saying you can mix-and-match components in the Odyssey line, so you could, for instance, start with the base Science Odyssey model, but add chevron separation and an escort through equipment you can swap between ships? I'm not sure how else you could mix-and-match so.

I may still go with a retrofitted Magellan in the short term, but I have an eye on the long term and ship slots to spare. Thanks!

And I just realized--I have been overlooking the D'Kora Marauder I got as a Ferengi Lock Box drop! That thing has very high hull strength, albeit a bit weaker than the Atrox Carrier or the Odyssey, plus twelve console slots (four each for Eng/Sci/Tac) and the Battle Module 3000! I think I'll experiment with taking this ship on my MACO space missions and see how she fares.

...Damn it, I got a burlesque show to MC this weekend and I really should focus on being prepared for that, but now I want to log on for a few hours of quality time with the D'Kora! :P

Hey again. Yeah. Each Oddysey version has its own console. Work Bees. Seperation and Aquarius Escort. If you have all 3 consoles then they also act like a set.

So you get all 3 hulls. Take the consoles off the 2 you dont want to use, add them onto the hull you do and poof. All 3 powers on one Oddysey plus it buffs your turn rate and a few other bits as well.

As for using the Atrox, yeah they are fun. Just so long as you dont want to whizz around like an Intrepid. Trick with Atrox seems to focus around getting good Blue Hanger ships from the Dilithium Store and working on getting those Flight Deck Doffs etc.

Hope the D'Kora proves to be fun and that your MC time went well. :)

Re: Odyssey Class Release

Well, I got creamed in an Elite STF mission with the D'Kora, so either I need to use better weapons or fine-tune that build. My Polaris is still a better ship at this point, it seems. It's odd--I figured a stronger hull would help.

The MC gig was awesome and I got to meet a couple new queer burlesque performers I didn't know before. :)

im guessing ur build just needs fine tuning, i use my Dkora in STF's and find it outperforms my Brel like crazy. I do miss the cloak tho.

What kind of build do you have on your D'kora, Seacat? I'll fly mine in STF's, but more often than not I still find myself relying on my Sovereign or Defiant

In front I have: 1 Bio-Torpedo, 1 Phaser array, 2 Dual Heavy Phaser cannons

In back I have: 1 Chroniton Top, 1 Phaser array, 2 Phaser Turrets

I run with the Mk XI Omega set

Also I cant remember the names but all of my 3 Tact consoles are the Phaser damage boosting ones, I have a plasmatic leech (feds cant have), and i have turnrate increasing consoles in my Eng slots.

I fly her like a raider, so fire off the Bio-torp, kick in the engines and plow at ur target, engage Evasive Man and make a quick about face. Let the Torp hit and launch the Chronitons. then get out of range. shes so tanky tho, u can stay in the fight longer but thats just my style.
