Alrath/Soulcatcher down for the count D:

December 31 2011
Just thought I'd toss this on here to let people know that I (Alrath and Soulcatcher in the guild) am unable to play due to a technical issue that has continued to go unresolved (there are a lot of others experiencing this issue so hopefully a fix will come soonish?). Until such a time as things are repaired I can't safely log into SWTOR without running the risk of crashing my computer within a couple minutes. While I haven't been around long enough to be 'close' to many people, I do feel like I know some people (through groups and my own annoying babbling in guild chat xD) so I wanted to post something letting everyone know why I've vanished. I guess I go back to WoW while hoping this gets resolved....

But I miss my ship and healy laser D:

I'm really sorry to hear that! I hope you get to make it back soon. Keep up with the forum so we can see you around here.

And maybe I'm being too nosey, but I know that amongst all the guild/fleet people here, we've had a lot of technical issues. If it's something you could share, someone on here might have some insight or some work-arounds.

May the force be with you.

You're not being nosey, I've just spent the last couple days pouring over forums and help sites with no luck. The few 'fixes' seem to only work for a couple people. And most of them require you to over clock various things and typically not helping. At this point im just tired of the issue and missing my star wars.

It's a nvlddmkm issue where the "driver stops responding". Only swept triggers it for me. Its happening all over the board for people regardless of build

Second big thread of a 1000 comments is about to be closed (with a bunch of other smaller ones) all about my issue and no hope in sight. *sigh* Hope everyone is doing alright and having fun!

Try again after 10am CST in the patch notes for tonight maintenance it said about graphical issues for users while attempting to play.

At this point I'm actually scared to try and come back until several others have posted that it's ok. Now that they have closed a second thread (2k responses total) the reports are coming in of the people that have been trying everything they can to fix this problem...and burning out machines better than mine. Several high end machines are now toast according to the posters on the forums. ; ;

On a bright side, STO is now F2P and my account there has been reactivated :D!

Have you tried swapping out the video card? What about reloading another OS?

Re: Alrath/Soulcatcher down for the count D:

All of those are "solutions" that people have tried. Every OS, vista, windows 7, mac OS, linix, even a beta version of Windows 8 are all effected. Reformatting and switching OS's has had no effect for 99% of the people. As for video cards the issue is effecting (at the last count someone did) more than 60 different cards (as reported on the forum). It's a broad reaching issue that seems to actually cause the most harm to the computers that should have the most ease running the game. There are people on the forums that have had their graphics cards melt when they are liquid cooled and should be able to run swtor at it's highest settings easily.

That's awful. I feel really bad for you. Not only does the game not run, but it might completely destroy your computer all together if you even check to see if it works. I hope they get this solved soon. Till then, I'll save some Imps/'pubs with your name on 'em to lightsaber when this gets fixed. They might even have the same faces as some of the developers to take out extra frustration for you.

Whoo hoo. Best uplifting spirit I could ask for xD Just remember me next time you're cutting through some enemies, i'll just be the guild's offline cheerleader. Or I'll just pull an Obi-wan Kenobi and randomly appear to people as a ghost but can't actually do anything useful. D:

I feel for you. After a year of STO overheating my video card (and forcing a computer reboot; it was the only game that did, my GTX295 breezed through the newest games without so much as a stutter), it was TOR that finally did it in and I don't understand why since TOR isn't nearly as intensive on the graphics card as STO was.

In order to maintain similar performance to my NEARLY FOUR YEAR OLD video card I had two options:

Get 2x 1-year old generation of video cards at about $500 combined or

Get 1 current-gen top of the line video card at around $800. It's the cheapest of only TWO single video cards that outperform my 4-year old card.

How's that for a kick in the daddy bags? (Sorry, played a bit of Mass Effect 2 this weekend and get a chuckle out of Donnelley using that line).
