Just a thought about spoilers...(not a spoiler!)

December 28 2011
So, to some extent I think this goes without saying, but I know that personally I've had moments where my excitement gets the best of me after an amazing cutscene in my class storyline...

(As a Sith, that usually involves death of some sort. Generally not mine.)

My first reaction is to want to share my wickedness in guild chat. Not the nitty-gritty details, but the awesomeness of what just happened.

But there's always the possibility that too much could be revealed...

So, just to put it out there...I think that with so many of us leveling and experiencing how our stories unfold (and many of us developing alts, too), perhaps "discretion may be the better part of valor." In other words - for all of us - it's probably a good idea to err on the side of sharing *less* or even minimal information in guild chat. Nothing worse than possibly ruining a key game moment for a fellow Stonewaller. :(

in the meantime ... GOSH, this game is crazy fun!

This is the very reason that all through Beta I only played Imperial characters. I knew I wanted a Commando at launch, but didn't want on iota of the Republic story spoiled by playing another class.

Of course, that said, this gave me the opportunity to taste the stories of the Inquisitor (which nearly put me off of the game entirely, because it was so "standard"), Agent, and Bounty Hunter. The last two were so good (and the last one brought a truly unexpected surprise) that I am looking forward to playing these classes as well when my Commando's story has come to a conclusion (pending later updates).

This game is so much fun and I can see folks wanting to share there excitement with everyone.

I think everyone has done a great job of not giving out to much details.

If something does get posted in guild chat that could be considered a spoiler lets not get our knickers in a knot over it. It will happen, lets move on and give a gently reminder to take spoilers to private tells.

Maybe post in guild chat something like "if anyone wants to know how class story goes send me a tell" if you want to share your class story line. This way it can be kept in private and those that want to know can. Heck even jump in vent and discuss it there.

Or as I have taken to doing, I have turned off guild chat on the chat tab I monitor, this way I will not read anything that might be helpful for some, but might inadvertently spoil for me. This was it is a win/win.

I agree Van. An accidental slip isn't something we should be too worried about. I still remember having the HOLY CRAP moment as a Bounty Hunter but having no one to share my surprise with because I didn't want to ruin it for anyone else.

Only if there is repetitive and malicious intent to spoiling story lines should we need to address it. But at that point, it should be left to the Officers and Fleet Captain equivalents to deal with. We should have full guild control on Tuesday or Wednesday next week.

Thx Van, Dakon :)

I've done the same as blue, basically turning off my guildchat. The down side to that is that I can not see the comings and goings of guildmates :(

I think people in guild chat have been very careful not to spoil things, and you could probably turn it back on if that's the only reason you have it off. No one's spoiled anything for me there. I think everyone is aware that there's a lot of surprising information in each story and we're all being very careful not to spoil anything.

I would agree with that if anything guild chat (atleast on the LoS side) has been more like inside conversations. Like Oooh! I really wasn't expecting how that ended. Someone then say's what? My Inquisitor quests. Then the other person says Oh the end of the chapter! OMG so good.

The conversation in general has been more of a OMG I need to get to the end to figure out what they are talking about lol.

Conversely the other day I posted the question "So, I'm a little confused about the Emperor's role in the timeline" (being a level 10 Jedi Knight and he's been mentioned in a few quests so far) and someone immediately shouted in guildchat "NO SPOILERS!!!"

So... how does one go about asking a question without having everyone assume it's a spoiler, when I have no way of knowing if it's a spoiler or not?

Yeah I've seen a few folks freak and type NO SPOILERS in guild chat when anyone asks a question. Here is another example of opinion and what one peson sees as something (fillin the blank) and another person doesnt'.

The best advice I could give is to ask the question out loud to yourself a couple of times and then if it sounds non-spoiling go ahead and post in guild chat or do what I did for my smuggler, come to the boards and post for help. I made it very clear in my post that spoilers are going to happen in this post and folks should not read it if they are going to get upset.

One idea would be to create another channel named like Stonewallstory... then people can talk freely in there about the storyline with each other and those who wish to avoid it then can stay out of that channel instead of avoiding the guild chat lol.

Oooh, I like this idea! Or just name it Stonewall Spoilers, so no one gets confused and think "ooooh, I like stories."

Also just a note when talking on the forums there is a Spoiler icon or you can use
Spoiler Text Here
So it doesn't ruin it for people so you could be talking and just say
then it is up to people to click it to view it :cheer:

I'm having a bit too much fun just clicking the link now

I've also had people freak out about what they perceive to be spoilers which are really not spoiler material to anyone that has followed the series pre-game. Like Revan's history -- not sure about what the game says about Revan, but I do know Revan from other sources.

also...
