Future of European KoS and LoS

November 21 2011
Hello All,

Myself and the other officers have recently been discussing the future of the European guilds for Knights of Stonewall and Lords of Stonewall. Right now our European guilds on the SW:TOR website are under populated. Knights of Stonewall EU currently has six members and Lords of Stonewall EU has seven, compare this to the US Knights of Stonewall which currently stands at 129 members. Because of this we have also received requests from European members who would rather play on the US servers to be with the main population. This has left us with a problem we have to consider.

We are discussing unifying the guilds and focusing on creating a world-wide Knights of Stonewall (and Lords of Stonewall) on a US server. We have spoken to some people who have reassured us that server lag won’t be a problem and that they play on US World of Warcraft (and other games) servers without ever noticing a increase in latency. I have done this myself in the past with no problem.

I’m hoping some of you may be willing to give me and the other officers some feedback on this. I’d like to make it very clear that we don’t want and will never abandon the European members in our guilds (I’m European myself) and we’ll continue to provide a fun and equal experience across all time zones but the server will be located in the US.

This does have some drawbacks for the European players. It can be expected that the patching will most likely happen during European peak time but on the same point it means we’ll get the patch as soon as the Americans without waiting until the next day or longer, like with other massively multiplayer online role playing games.

It also means that the Europeans will be playing in a guild of 100+ instead of in a much smaller guild which may struggle to complete content and run large scale events.

We haven’t made any decision on this yet and we’d love to hear any thoughts that any of you have on this issue.

Thanks for taking the time.

I think combining the guilds into one large LGBT guild on the Empire and Republic side is a great idea. I know it will be a lot of work for the O's but this guild is filled with wonderful folks who will be willing to lend a hand and help you all thru it.

Let us know what you need and again awesome idea!

It's great that you guys have discussed this. Because this is worrying me. I didn't join up with you guys to end up in a guild with only 13 members (no offence, I'm sure those 12 other people are all wonderful).

I know that lag won't be an issue, I play LOTRO, which moved all the servers to the US.

I assume that maintenance will be done on a weekday morning. That means midday in Europe. Should be finished by the time I get home in the evening.

I joined the EU LoS guild. At the moment I'm in doubt if I will start my first toon on the EU or on the US server. I wonder how many people in the KoS/LoS US guild are European. There must be Europeans in there who decided to play on the US servers.

The only reason I can think of to play on an EU server is lack of people online on weekday evenings and weekend mornings. I'm not talking about fellow guild members. In an MMORPG I like it when there are a lot of random players around, to ease the grind and to have a general feeling of being in a mass multiplayer game.

A this time I would prefer it if we're all one happy family on a US server. If it doesn't work out, we can still separate (no relationship last forever).

As an EU player I have no problems with moving over to the US server. I think it would help preserve what Stonewall means and keep the community united. Also a lot more people means a lot more fun.

I have to say I'm not too worried one way or the other. I'd obviously rather play with as many of you as I can (innuendo totally unintended!).

Never really understood why a Euro guild was even attempted myself. The idea that server lag across the Atlantic even exists is laughable. Data over fiber travels at the speed of light. I can't count the number of mmo's I have played with both Euro and US players on the same server and I have never known Euro players to be at any disadvantage. I vote merge the guilds so we can all play together. No reason for it to be any other way.

Many of us remember the bad old days of the early mmo's and games like Diablo 2 even to a certain extent. Pick a west coast server and gain some ping for free. Yes the data travels at light speed (more or less), however it stops and says hi at every link in the web chain, this takes time. Nowadays that doesnt matter as much as it did, but it still worries those of us who had to deal with such things in the early 90's.I dont remember what game it was but i had one that was miserable because i was using a west coast server instead of east coast, im sure the overtheponders in the fleet probably had even more problems back in the day.

I think it sounds like a great idea, provided the lag really wont be a problem, I'm all for it. Better to be with all like in STO than just a fraction of the community. ;)

I would be more than happy to keep the guild together and play on US servers, I think this game is going to be big enough for a good solid 24 hour presence

The last guild I was in split between us eu and oc and I remember during the launch of rift seeing over 40 people in US teamspeak channel and 3 - 4 in the EU. Guild soon fell apart

December 2nd is getting close. Nobody in favor of keeping separate EU guilds posted here.

Should i just move back to one of the US guilds?

I haven't received any negative feedback about moving to the US Server (DuncanHaldane's post probably the closest to it). I spent the beta weekend that has just finished playing on the US servers and lag didn't pose any sort of problem.

Because of this we have made the decision to move everyone to the US servers ASAP because Bioware will lock the roster lists down on the 2nd of December. So if anybody is currently in the European guilds please move their accounts over.

Here are the links to the US guilds:

Knights of Stonewall : http://www.swtor.com/guilds/7466/knights-stonewall
Lords of Stonewall : http://www.swtor.com/guilds/204072/lords-stonewall

If you have any questions or wish to discuss this further please contact one of the officers or reply here :)

Thanks all!
