Stopping to smell the roses

November 04 2011
I think my biggest disappointment when I get into a new MMORPG is the fact that most everybody you see is running around like a chicken with its head cut off, trying to level, level, level as fast as they can. I've been known to get caught up in that hysteria myself, but this time around I really don't want to go crazy trying to keep up with them. I want to take my time and enjoy the journey. Does anyone else feel that way?

I don't mean to say I am going to deliberately play slowly, I plan to follow the progression of the missions as they occur, I just don't want to give in to that feeling of being left behind by everybody else who's running past me. I'm going to stop and smell the Alderaanian roses from time to time. I hear they're lovely this time of year. ;)

I'm really looking forward to SW:TOR and the story lines they have created for the different classes. This will be the first MMO that I've played where I'm not going to rush to be a server first for my class.

I'll be right there with you leveling slow and reading all the story lines and carefully making my choices. (I have allergies so I won't stop to smell the flowers as they always make me sneeze ;) ) That is what is so appealing to me about this game. Each of our choices will effect our toons. It will be interesting to see how my trooper turns out.

Don't be to discouraged when you see others race towards lvl 50, for some that is their fun in game.

I'm very excited about release, just a little over a month away!!!

I'm the same. I rushed ahead with STO and found myself with little to do. This time I'm going to take my time and explore everything, even if it takes forever, lol.

one of the nice things is there are codex all around. so you can spend time looking for lore objects and holocrons while working on stuff. And I have to say, the graphics are nice.

I'm with you on this one, Sylv, at least for the first time through. I'm a quest reader because I enjoy the story, and I like to meander off to see what's over in the distance (sometimes interesting, sometimes not). I don't usually group up for new questing because when I have the folks have just gone too fast and I miss out on the storyline. I don't mind being behind the pack and not being among the first to the end game content. It and the players will be there when I get there!

I currently play LOTRO. I took me one year to level my one toon from zero to level 65. I don not expect it will take me a lot less to get to level 50 in SWTOR. I'm not a raider/PVP-er, for me the fun is in the levelling. When i reached level cap in LOTRO i got bored with it. It's now fun again levelling to 75.

I have to agree, it's more fun working your way up. This quote pretty much says it all:

"Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it."

Yeah I'll be looking all over looking for my holocron easter eggs. lol Plus I gotta say I love the ambient sound it has, really immerses you in the game while you explore. Plus like doogie said, it's very purdy.

The game is great so far. I love the storylines. Only found one Holocron so far, and they better not move it come launch!

It's great to know there are others out there who are excited about the story and exploring the game world. Reading the SWTOR forums, it's easy to feel lost among the speed demons and min/maxers. I look forward to catching up with y'all in game.

Some MMO game worlds were meant to be explored. The first two that immediately came to mind were Lord of the Rings Online and Age of Conan. I definitely want to take my time with SWTOR and see everything there is to see...besides, if BioWare does come through with a after-launch patch that will allow SGRA's (Same-Gender Romance Arcs), leveling your alt too quickly may not be a good thing, yes?
