Threeways

October 06 2011
Hey all,
I'm buying a new rig for ... well, really for Skyrim to be honest, but TOR too :)
Anyway, I was considering shelling out for the 3 monitor wraparound immersion thing.

Does anyone have that?
Like it?
Recommend it?

Would I be better off with one bigger better monitor?

Is it a drain on the Graphics Card to support 3, such that I will get better quality if I stick to one?

Thanks...

I've been wanting to pick up two more 53" HDTVs to do the same. :3

Would that be overkill? xD

I guess I thought a little. For instance, "Triple penetration" seemed to over-the-top. ;)

I just don't know if it's even worth it. It looked cool in the store, but I don't actually know of anyone who has it, which makes me wonder if there are issues.

And I just got back from a very very large meeting where they kept talking about Digital Penetration, Telephone Penetration, and (of course) Market Penetration.

So hard to keep a straight face that early in the morning.

I use 2 ~20" monitors at work, and it works out pretty well. I have a large HP al in one at home, and I can't imagine using a second or especially a third monitor

Depends on your point of view. ;-)

But on a serious note I think my computer is in the stoneage when I read all this information. Very interesting and gives me something to think about when I go to look for a new computer and monitor in the next few months.

That's just too much for me (a propos of the current topic subject line ;) ). I'd have to sit so far back from the monitors.

Ah, I work in a cubicle farm, so I'd be sitting two or three rows back, then.

wow. amazing video.

And thanks for all the responses.

At this point I am thinking maybe one big monitor might work best given the amount of space and money I have. Maybe 27" but I'll have to see prices.

I can keep my old monitor as a second monitor but it'll be a different resolution so it wouldn't be for gaming.

I don't totally get the difference between monitors and TVs. Besides that TV have built in receivers, of course. Is the quality of HD tv's as good as you get from monitors these days?

No, my max resolution is 1920 x 1080. Honestly, though, that's enough for me. The higher the resolution, the more I have to adjust the text size to be readable and the weirder it looks to me. Also, even though my tv is "240hz" (240fps) Nvidia seems to say it's restricted to 60hz. Though when I'm in games, I often see my fps jump up over 100. I don't know if that's what the game is attempting to push to the TV, or if that's what the TV is actually receiving. I'm guessing it's the former, though.

I am perfectly happy with my 53" monitor, though; I love playing games from bed. :3
