i myself and extremely pumped to go raiding. i will be a healer and i have played in the swtor beta for many months. i know the seer ac very well :P

So is endgame healing like in WoW etc, where the healer is totally dedicated to healing (which I always want to enjoy but never seem to be able to)? I've read that dedicated healing isn't as required in SWTOR, but you would know better I think...

you spend a lot of time healing but not all of it. you do have time for cc, minor damage, and stunning. in fact if you have a good tank he will call on your ability to cc and stun often WHILE healing. we always had tremendous success with me doing that.

While leveling as Sage is it realistic to group as DPS if you don't feel like healing since 2 of the 3 talent trees are DPS? I'm wondering because Sage is going to be my main but I may not always want to heal. It's seems the developers have made the hybrid classes very diverse and I love that. I'm just wondering if I go Sage if I'll be expected to always heal in groups.

To tell you the truth, I'm having a tough time deciding between Sage, Guardian and Commando. I would rather tank than heal in a group but I like the playstyle and the story of the Sage. sigh.. this is my altoholic self... lol

Which would be the most useful to the guild in groups between those three in your opinion?

Well IMHO I think tanks/healers are ALWAYS the most requested. i remember many times where there was NO healers seemingly on at all. there would be spam in chat for hours for a healer and often times a tank. DPS however like always is a dime a dozen

Yeah, no kidding! I got so frustrated with the lack of healers that I rolled one. Didn't expect to love it so much, as I usually play tanks. I had the most fun on those rare occasions where there were two healers on the team. Hope we get to team up Samhain! I'm also going to play a Sage healer, so I'll probably have lots of questions in-game :).

I like playing healers usually but from what I've seen of the healer gameplay, it looks rather boring. Just healthbar watching, yawnfest. Maybe I've been spoilt by games like AoC and DCUO that offer a very active healer experience, you're fighting as much as dps and most heals are aoe.

But maybe if they offer advance class respec, I'll give a healer class a try.

I think your role is more dependent on which skill tree you go down. I'm probably gonna have my Sage be a TK specialist. I think because each AC can have up to two different roles spec'd people can't just make assumptions like "you're a sage you must heal".

Go commando!!! Oh wait, you mean for your class, not whether you should wear underwear or not.

Well, I think the old rule of thumb is try a couple and see which you enjoy most. If you like the Jedi Consular, but prefer to tank, try the Shadow (consular AC), as it has a tanking tree and shares the same story with the Sage.

I plan to try healing again just to see if its more fun in this game (for me). But I (like most players according to a study supposedly, prefer kicking ass).

Also, it sounds like dedicated roles aren't that big a deal till the higher levels, so you have time to figure it out.

hahah love the going commando part. i honestly had sooooo much fun as the commando. that was my 3rd build. he was awesome.

healers in this game to me IMHO was alot of fun. i could still solo very effectively, group well, and still not feel gimped or useless. The fact that i did not have to rely on someone else all the time to level made it very nice.

Thank you Xcentric. I didn't know we could "dual spec" in this game! If that's the case I'm definitely going with Sage if I can have a DPS spec and a Healz spec at the same time.

Commando, Sage and Guardian were the three I enjoyed the most in beta so I'll be rolling all three but I'm trying to make myself focus on just one at least at first.

I've got to go commando at some point, though. It's just way too much fun! :P

To be clear, my understanding is
a) they plan on adding dual speccing AFTER launch
b) it will be limited to the skill trees within your AC. So a Consular Sage can't have a Consular Shadow dual spec, but CAN have say a Sage Healer and a Sage DPS dual spec.

and you're welcome :)

Nice! That's exactly the way I was hoping it would work. I learned the hard way during beta that our commitment to an AC is permanent! (which is why I had to level a 2nd Consular to try Sage instead of Shadow, oops)

I'm happy that it is something to be included even if we won't have it at launch. Heck, we need some time anyway to experiment with our talents and get to know our play style.

as a completely unrelated aside, except for the fact that my twin-blade lightsaber kept piercing my twi'lek's brain-tails (which drove me a little nuts), I found the shadow really fun. So far all the classes seem pretty damn fun. But I have to remember that I still have new game crush. We'll see what happens when the new meat excitement brain chemicals wear off.

Glad to hear that there are more and more folks interested in raiding. I am most likely going to have a TK Sage as my main BUT...I may wind up levleling up a tank or a healer in order to be raid viable/valuable. I'll have to wait and see what the guild roster is looking like as we get closer to that point.

I like the idea of the dual spec they say they are going to offer, but until I can see how it's going to work, I am planning on having some alts for raid flexibility and crafting independence.

see, my issue with the trinity is that many people feel they have to tank or heal to be able to get a group or to be "useful" (me included). Some like to tank, some like to heal/support but most don't want to do either. I wonder if they could make healing and tanking as fun and therefore as popular as dps. i dunno.

I personally enjoy tanking (not as much as dps), but I keep trying to make healers because I know that is the best way I can get a group. I've spent so many hours in wow for instance, trying to find a healer. And if not a healer then a tank. All these years, you think they'd come up with a decent way to work with this issue.

I dabbled with raiding in LOTRO, and kinda made it a weekly thing in Age of Conan. The only thing I absolutely hated was the dice-rolling for needed gear.

My die rolls sucked. I mean, really, Really, REALLY sucked. :(

Classic example: Age of Conan. I played a barbarian. Barbarian chest piece dropped as loot. in a full raid of 24, there were only two barbs. The other barb rolled a 15.

I rolled a 13.

I needed 2 pieces to finish the set. I never got them, even after a year of weekly raiding. I gave up shortly before my yearly sub expired.

That being said, I nevertheless want to give TOR's raiding a try. I seem to have read that everyone in the raid will get something, which I totally agree with. Nothing is worse than busting your glutes for 2 hours beating mega-bosses and walking away empty-handed.

Holy cow you could change the games name to WoW and that was what I was going thru. I just could not win a role for my life, all my pieces came when no one else wanted them and I was a main healer. :silly:

My AoC guild, Rogue Angels, had a guild point system for raiding. So if you had raided for a year, you could use your banked points to get that final armor piece. Was a good way to reward the people who were regular raiders.
