Idle chatter :D

September 02 2011
Hi All!

I've been spending too much time on the game forums, reading speculation and guessing. I thought I would try and start an entertaining conversation here, instead :D

I can't wait to get in on an MMO this good(-looking) right at the beginning so that over time I can be a serious player and not a permanent-newbie as I felt with WoW (never really reached "Endgame" content, could never be the best at something in the guild, etc). I'm also excited to see some of the crafting trees. I usually roll one of "each kind" but my primary tends to be a very destructive crafter.

I hadn't watched any of the videos before this evening, I didn't think it was going to look as good as it does right off the bat.

What else is everyone looking forward to in ToR?

Personally, I'm looking forward to exploring and getting into the story of the game. When I played WoW and the first time I went through missions in STO I tried to take in a lot of the story, of course I can't get it all in one sitting so once I max out my main It'll be time for an alt. Unless of course I get sucked into the Endgame Operations!!!! he he he

I'm really looking forward to flying around in my own ship. I know that may sound corney but I've been in WoW for 7 years and I'm ready for a new type of adventure. I have no idea how good I'll be at flying but heck I'm gonna give it my best shot.

There are a several other things in the game that look very appealing....companions that do the craft! woot! Oh yeah and companions!

The only story lines I know are from the movies. The first three (with Luke, Leia and Hon) are the ones I know. The other three I will probably watch at some point. so I'm not so familar with the galaxy and all that goes on in it.

Like yourself I've been combing thru the offical forums and holy cow some of those folks are just not nice. Every now and then I come across posts that are enjoyable to read.

Gosh yes, a lot of people are vicious on the official forums.

I like the ship idea. I especially like that the companions will gather for you. Leaves me time to craft. I wish it worked that way in real life (You! Go gather glassy bits for my evil empire, mwahaha. Please.)

I'm hoping to get pulled into Operations too. I've never done Endgame anything, and that seems to be where the most epic (epicest?) stories are.

Heh, I just read a great rumor that guilds will be able to get a carrier of their own as a guild hall. That could be fun. It makes me wonder what we would name it. Is it inappropriate of me to suggest "Priscilla, Queen of Tatooine"?

Other thoughts (I'm sleep deprived, sorry) include The DiverCity, if ship or guild is large enough.

Don't get too attached to the idea of "flying" around in your ship. All space combat is a single player rail shooter a-la Starfox. Seriously. So as long as you can point and click, you'll be able to do it.

The reason for this is that it wasn't even really intended for the game, but only added as a sort of a cheap afterthought at the behest of the demands of the fans. They have already (belligerently) refused to do any more with it (I read several reports (on the public SWTOR forums) of them becoming quite... unpleasant at conventions when the fans confronted them about the poorly thought out space shooter.)

Oh well at least we get a ship even it's a barely minimul usage thing.

I've done end game in WoW and Rift so hopefully I'll get a chance to see some end game in SW:TOR.

It's Friday and with no beta invite I guess I'll clean the house this weekend. :( There are 3 more chances this month!!!

Ironically, you get a better space combat engine (even if you are limited to what feels like driving a submarine... except for the ability to move vertically without angling up or down and thrusting forward.) in Star Trek Online whose IP has less space combat than Star Wars.

Still, though, the ground game's brilliance almost completely compensates for the space games uselessness.

I might have to give Star Trek Online a go, it seems to be a pretty good game from what folks are saying and from the website.

STO has it's gems as well as it's flaws, no doubt about it.

The biggest thing I'm hoping for with SW:TOR is that it is story driven. I'm tired of quest hubs where you gather a dozen quests then head off. I want a large cohesive story that builds of off the previous mission without me needing to read pages of text before I get started. I've been waiting for a KOTOR sequel for many years and hope that this lives up to be many KOTOR sequels wrapped up into a single game that also allows for cooperative (and competitive) play.

Build the story, give it to me in bite size chunks that keep the action flowing. I loved some of City of Heroes arcs (particularly the Sky Raiders arc), but after a while, you stop making time to stop and read the walls of text.

My biggest fear, having seen some of the Game Con videos is that it is going to play like a WoW clone inside a story-driven wrapper. I'm not sure I can stand to mash the same hotkey power chain over and over again in yet ANOTHER game.

sorry:) I thought since people were indicating that they were in the beta that it would be okay cause I thought indicating was breaking of NDA as well:)

If it weren't for the NDA, which I think you must have just broken, I'd explain the solution to that.

Hey WarWidow..

You should be a lot more careful with what content you post. The last thing you want is Bioware to find out you broke the NDA and reject your beta access. Just a friendly tip

I suggest to the powers that be that any new user with "Bioware" in the name be autoblocked :D

You don't need an official from Bioware to read it, just someone, who knows someone who works at Bioware. The NDA is there for a reason, and we need to respect it. That is my only point. Yes we are among friends here but Information has a way of getting out and being blown out of proportion. You just need someone to read something that is supposed to be kept quite by an NDA and it gets told to friends who misunderstand and tell other friends, a week later it's causing a firestorm all over the blog-o-sphere as something far from what it was originally meant.

Smuggler or Trooper,,,,it's a toss up for me on which class to start with. The video was interesting as we get to see the healing abilities of the smuggler.

I'll eventually have a light saber twirler as well...heck probably one of each.
