Foundry Training Session

Foundry Training Session

February 19 2011
After the Foundry comes back up and I have some time to figure out exactly how all the new features work, I'd like to host a Foundry Training Session where I show those people who are knew to it, how it works and what it can do.

So I can be sure to prepare myself properly, I was wondering what kind of stuff would you like to learn about?

From what's replied below I'll create a list of things to show and then try to answer questions while we're going threw it as well.

I'm by far not a super supreme expert on the Foundry (although, I've been reading a lot of guides, watching video tutorials and keeping up with its progress.) so those of you who have been playing around with it too, I'd love to have your help as well. We can work together, answer each others questions, and distribute knowledge all around!

I'd be really interested in a attending a training session for the foundry. I found it a bit difficult to get things in the right order.

I'd like to know a few things like:
Map transfers - how to go from space to ground and back again.
Waves of enemies - how to stop all the enemies showing up at once.
Visual effects - how to properly use the visual options for scanning and interacting with objects.
Map creation - how to place objects properly and ensure that events happen when I get to the right location.
NPC interactions - how to have conversations with NPCs and if there is a way to have different outcomes based on my replies.

I'd be interested in this, depending on if I'll be in game then or not (I'm looking at having to take a break for financial reasons).

If it would help Nick, I've got a WebEx account we can use for STO Screenshare while you're in the foundry. Once people log in, it'll also call them so there's voice capability.

I would attend too. I've only played with it for a few minutes would it would be nice to hear what you've discovered about it.

@Zeryon, good suggestion re: the screen share

I was planning on using UStream to broadcast it as I showed all the steps on my computer, then people could comeback later and watch it again if they need to review. As well, possibly sharing the video with the Foundry community.

Does WebEx store the data for later?

I'd like to see what you can show us about the Foundry. I have many story ideas that I would like to begin working on now that Foundry is live.

I agree with what has been mentioned previously in this thread as far as what I would like to learn from you, but I would be really interested in finding out how to make episodes that become a series of continued story lines.

I have a couple ideas that I want to stretch out into a few episodes, to heighten suspense.

I wanted to do a nice story in the foundry which didnt involve combat but when I came to do it I was most disappointed with what I couldnt do. In particular I found myself having to use a specific template when trying to design the interior to my ship. i was also disappointed in not being able to have an entity disappear off the starmap after I had finished with it.

If anybody wishes to see my effort it is a KDF mission, even though it may be more suited to Federation due to being non combat, called 'Sensor Anomaly' by Dirlettia.

Any critiques are welcome as well as any ideas on how to advance the storyline a bit.

I am extremely excited and enthusiastic about the foundry, and learning to use it effectively. I Would firstly like to learn about everything we need to be able to do to be useful on the starbase construction team. Following that, I would like to learn things required to make a mission.

Here's a few things I'm having difficulty grasping:

constructing a way to enter the first zone of the mission (entry points at sol spacedock are not intuitive for me)

using markers to reach in order to zone

object interactions (either to zone or to progress the mission in some meaningful way)

wandering

dialogues (and dialogue choices)

constructing an interior from scratch (without using a premade map, if thats possible)

i would also like you to do a mission that we can follow along with you in creating, so that by the time we are done, we all publish a mission.

I hear ya, Doogie. It keeps telling me I need to add a "door", but nothing in the Foundry nor in the materials STO has released concerning Foundry calls anything a "door". The controls are very unintuitive and unclear. It wasn't designed for laymen.
