This is a really cool topic!

My main character is Jacien J. Mandrake; Jacien is a takeoff of my first name and my middle initial is J. for James. Mandrake was my favorite cartoon character from the 1986 cartoon series;"Defenders of the Earth." I haven't yet written a bio for him yet but he is gay and I fancy him sort of a Wesley Crusher or Mark MacHenry type, sort of more than human. He's also a Sci.

I won't count the starter ships but the rest are as follows:

USS Copernicus- Aurora class variant: named after a famous astronomer.

USS Prospero- Olympic class variant: named after a powerful wizard from Shakespere's "The Tempest."

USS Aurora- Discovery variant: Named after a powerful Ancient ship class in the Stargate universe.

USS Oberon: Luna Variant: (my favorite!) According to cannon all Luna class vessels are supposed to be named after moons in the Sol system. There's been the Luna, Titan, Chiron, and Ganymede to name a few. There are at least 145 celestial bodies in our solar system classified as moons so there was plently of names ot choose from. Oberon is both a moon in this solar system and is also the mythical King of the Fairies in Shakespear's "A Midsummer Night's Dream," as well as ancient European folklore.

USS Axiom: Nimbus Class: I chose this name because the deep range sci vessels remind me of the ship from Wall-E and I thought it sounded cool.

USS Mobius: Intrepid Refit: Don't use this ship much but this was another ship name I liked and always wanted to use. Its also the name for my Eng's
Emissary class cruiser and cuz I think the ship configuration fits with the name.

USS Wayfarer: Magellan class- Nickname for the Greco/Roman messenger of the Gods and patron diety of all travellers, Mercury/Hermes. I also did in in honor of a friend of mine from High School who used to be the head of our Star Trek club but has recently joined a cult and doesn't want anything to do with star trek anymore. The Wayfarer was his ship in RPG.

My Eng is a joined Trill RALH named Jadzaeus Vox (my own tribute to Jadzia Dax) and I used a lot of the same ship names that I did for my Sci. His current ship is the USS Morning Star (Soveriegn class) because that was the name I chose for my ship when my High School Star Trek club started doing star trek RPG.

My Tac is a joined Trill Commander named Cobalt because that's my favorite color. I'm planning on making a story for him involving section 31 and the name of his symbiote has been lost to time because it is so old. Cobalt is his intelligence codename and he's been on an extended deep cover assignment as a Mercenary in the Orion Syndicate. My BF chose the name for my Akira and I cant remember what it is right now cuz I'm at work but its Japanese for 'sure kill.'

I've got 2 toons:

Xander Conti, a liberated borg human. His ships were mostly named Infinitus. I used to roleplay on a website nation-building game called NationStates (www.nationstates.net). And my country's name was Infinitus, a nation with a history of genetic engineering. The Chancellor was Conti. So there is some history with him and the name there. It also gave him a link to him being a science officer.

Iolyn: He's an alien (still working on his back-story). He's on his first ship, the USS Charleston. I'm from South Carolina and will be using the names of different cities as the names of his ships (the order having something to do with history, population, cultural significance, etc.). I may even mix in the surnames of some of the influential people in SC history in there -- for example, I'm thinking about naming his Delta Flyer the USS Rutledge. I'll probably work in the South Carolina connection into Iolyn's backstory, too.

Well, I have since renamed my ship (again).

My latest name for my ship is the USS Challenger. Named both for the shuttle and it's namesake, the HMS Challenger. A science ship from the mid 19th century.

My alt has since named her Delta Flyer the Trieste, after the bathyscaphe which reached the bottom of the Challenger Deep (about 35 thousand feet deep)

So far my ships have been named after important trans people, but I'm expanding it in the future to include queer people of all genders.

So far:

USS Bornstein (Light Cruiser): Named after author and performer Kate Bornstein (author of Gender Outlaw, My Gender Workbook and Hello Cruel World: 101 Alternatives to Suicide for Teens, Freaks, and other Outlaws)

USS Leslie Feinberg (Science Vessel): Named after author and campaigner Leslie Feinberg (author of Transgender Warriors)

USS Susan Stryker (Research Science Vessel): Named after author, activist and performer Susan Stryker (author of Transgender History)

My next ship will be the USS Joan Nestle :)

Since the start of the game all my ships have been named the U.S.S Nechayev, after only the most brilliantly terrifying character in the Trek universe.

She's currently in drydock however, while I use the U.S.S. Extremis, named for a version of Iron Man's armour. I'm not a massive fan of the character but I enjoyed the "Ex..." naming convention that reflects the Excelsior-class ship.

I've only got two ships, but there they are:

U.S.S Wales - Exploration Cruiser Refit - VA Ozymandias Welsh.
Wales is a member country of the United Kingdom, located between Ireland and England. Its also my home in RL. :)

U.S.S Chris McCandless - Heavy Escort - LtC Maximus Decimus.
After watching "Into the Wild", and reading up about this guy's life. I found myself enthralled in his idealism, youthful moral-enquiry. A true spirit of the American Pioneer. I really need to read the book about his short but eventful life. He died of starvation at the age of 23 in the Alaskan wilderness, but he died happy.

Some of the ship names I've used consistently:

USS Oberon: Named for the king of the faeries from one of my favorite Shakespeare plays

USS Boudica: named for the Iceni queen during the roman occupation of Britain. I've always liked the story of Boudica ever since seeing a movie about her starring Alex Kingston, dr who's river song.

Depends on my Character.

My Tactical Bajoran and my Engineer Bajoran both name their ships for important "stuff" in Bajoran lore, for example my Star Cruiser Emissary is going to be the USS Benjamin Sisko ;)

My avatar in game has decided to name his ships after our Marine Corps Core values and important "stuff" in Marine Corps lore.

My Section 31 character ::redacted::

My High Elven character names his ships after, well that should be self explanatory.

My Romulan names his stuff after...wait for it....Romulan lore. ;)

My Orion names his stuff after well Piraty stuff.

My Vulcan names his ships after Vulcan stuff, kinda.

My Red Haired Irish human is TOSy.

And my Romulan on Tribble names his stuff and crew in such a manner as to blatantly let them know Rommie fans are still here and we still want our damn faction.

Well I haven't gotten all the way up to end game yet so I'm naming my ships fun things as I level. For instance I got the classic Connie on my first toon and as it's supposed to be a low-level tank I had to name it the USS Johnston. No other ship in history better represents a scrappy little tank to me. Most of the rest of my ships are named in honor of Hot Shots, ie the USS You Ess Ess, or Ewe Ess Ess, or any other variant on the meme. Except for my defiant class, that's the Ramming Speed for what I hope are obvious reasons.

Like this thread, so here goes mine, my Characters have quite a few ships that I cant remember but my mains are as follows:

Tactical VA - Leoban (Bajoran Gay Male)
USS Ticonderoga (Galaxy X Dreadnought)
Named after the American warship

Science RA - Lexington (Human Gay Male)
USS Theia (Luna Class Variant)
Named after the theorised moon that crashed into a developing planet Earth, also one of the Greek Titans said to be the mother of the Sun, Moon and Dawn

Engineering Captain - Larson Toben (Joined Trill Gay Male)
USS Atlas (Venture Class)
Named after Atlas the Titan who supported the Heavens on his shoulders...

As you can tell I have a thing for ancient greek mythology and most of my ships are of a greek influence apart from my battle ships which are named after American and British battleships

When I named my VA ships, I had a feeling most folks would opt for meaningful and well thought out ship names. I therefore went for insipid pop culture references:

USS Bi-Winning
USS 99 Problems

I'm still trying to think of a third ship name for my VA Fed engineer.

It's fun to think today's insipid pop culture reference may be the literary classics of the future. Maybe your other ship should be the U.S.S. Taylor Lautner. (Ooh, imagine the comments you'd get from strangers in-game.)

My ship name on either of my characters (Kaaleb or T'Laris) is the USS Nechayev. Named after Admiral Alynna Nechayev who was Captain Picard's boss. She also made an appearance on DS9. I loved her character and the actress (Natalyga Nogulich) is such a sweetheart! Met her a couple years ago at the first Stonewall meet up at the Las Vegas Trek convention. She called me "spunky" ;)

What is this 99 Problems thing? There's a topless bar down the street that says they film for it inside, and that if you enter the bar, you agree to being filmed. But is this thing more than just a Minneapolis thing?

Oh, okay, it's a song lyric, and also happens to be the name of an online show, thanks.
