Introduction to Chox, and the Vardinain race

July 06 2010
My toon Chox (pronounced Cox) is of the Vardinain race, hailing from planet Vardinaia, located in the distant Delta Quadrant.

A thousand years ago, the Vardinain race, hailing from planet Vardinaia, located in the distant Delta Quadrant, were neighbors and uneasy allies with the Vaadwaur (http://memory-alpha.org/wiki/Vaadwaur). Eventually the Vaadwaur began their turn to conquest, and the Vardinains knew that their planet would be one of the first to fall.

They sent a young scientist by the name of Chox to infiltrate the Vaadwaur to steal their Underspace technology. Chox's mission was a success, and she was then assigned to reverse engineer the technology, and adapt it to a way of saving their entire world. What they accomplished was no small feat. They were able to transport their entire planet through an underspace corridor. This was no ordinary corridor though.

The original plan would have had their planet pass through the corridor as a normal part of it's rotation path, and emerge in a nearly identical system, and continue the same rotation, around a new star. The plan worked well, successfully relocating their race at the other end of the galaxy, far from the normal reach of the Vaadwaur, however, there was an unforeseeable side effect of moving such a large amount of mass. The corridor became displaced in time, moving their world nearly a thousand years into the future, as well as to the other end of the galaxy.

The new location of Vardinaia places it in the vicinity of the Briar Patch, in the Sirius Sector Block of Federation space.
The passage through Underspace also caused some moderate geological and environmental side effects, causing pollution and minor earthquakes.

Chox, as project leader for the transport of their planet away from the Vaadwaur, also served as the official scientific contact with the Federation during the relief efforts to restore her world's natural ecosystems. During this time, she grew a great respect for the Starfleet Officers that helped her home to regain is strength and beauty. Once the restoration was complete, she submitted her application to enlist in Starfleet, along with hundreds of others in her race.

Physically, her race tends to be tall and thin, they have lobed heads, skin coloring that is primarily green, with highlights of almost any color. They have no ears, and share the same distinctive ridges on their faces and foreheads. Nice! :-D Love the thought and effort you've put in! Full marks for producing your own race with a proper, and interesting, back-story. As opposed to my beta [pre-Joined Trill current main] alien character, which I designed to look 'faintly odd' and whose entire back-story was:

Wow, that's really cool! I love how you adapted that Underspace concept. Both of my toons are Aliens, so I really like it when people make original races, and I like it even more when people think up cool backstories for those races.

I may definitely take you up on your offer. I'd like to have one of these as a BO!

Sure thing. For the race, I was thinking the base color shoudl stay green, and the spot pattern shoudl be the same, but can be any color, and to use the same ridges and all that as the template. Want male or female template? Or both? PM me your email, so I can email you the template.

PS, I've got another race or two I'll be writting up posts about.

I've created KDF templates also, if you wish to create a Vardinain player or boff [file name=Vardinain.zip size=47680]http://www.stonewallfleet.com/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/files/Vardinain.zip[/file]

If you go back and edit the original post, you can add multiple images or files to 1 post.

How do you create a template for a species? Is that just a chart showing what features to use from the alien creation menus? I'm assuming so, since I can't figure out how you could plug in any code.

Thanks for posting this. I've been looking for this sort of thing on the STO boards and not finding them, so now I look forward to posting about my own two created species (thus far), the Olegians (Kvar) and the Nathanites (Ylis).

It's easy, in the alien creator click the save button. It'll create a headshot image in your screenshots folder. That image is the template.

The two headshot images on this thread are such templates, just put them into your screen shots folder and load them from the alien creator. Be sure to change the facial geometry a bit, so you don't end up with a clone of my character lol.

There's a screenshot folder in-game? I've just been clicking my PrintScreen and opening in Paint. How do I operate this screenshot tool in-game?
