So, that's probably my fave TNG episode, but I don't get the comic.

Well, ya see, in the original episode, the Darmok and Jalad metaphor meant two enemies coming together to overcome an outside adversity. But this comic tips that on its ear, and changes it to mean a drunken hook-up. So the Tamarian captain wants to get J-LP all liquored up and bump (possibly bumpy) nasties with him.

Wiiiink!

(As with most Tamarian, the joke probably loses something in the translation.)

Or, to put it in Gay-Tamarian:

Jeff Stryker, his sword unsheathed.
Joey Stefano, legs in the air, cocaine up his nose.
Jeff Stryker and Joey Stefano in the orgy room.
Jeff Stryker and Joey Stefano making the beast with two backs.
Jeff Stryker's money shot, like the Bellagio fountain.
Jeff Stryker (Tamarian captain points to himself), Joey Stefano (points to Picard), and Amber Lynn (points to Troi) in Bi-Bi-Baby.

Saying a game is shallow doesn't rile me one bit at all as it is very much true.

Even free form games such as Oblivion are shallow as at the end of the day they all folow the same format: you fight stuff by using basic abilities or powers, loot your enemy to get better stuff or trash to get money. You then raise your level and get tougher monsters to do the same.

Sure there are slightly different looks each 'level' but they are all basically the same. For a game to be complex and not be shallow would take so much programming that in the end a human player would likely not even be able to play it easily. I must admit though if they could introduce an 'Elite'esque trading element into the game it could help keep those who want to do a Farmville session and not blow stuff up.. Still maybe the duty officer system will do that role beautifully.

Hats off to the guy in the Angry Birds tee for ticking the box of every negative stereotype I associate with American gamers lol

Shallow is a good word for STO to be honest. I'll probs rage the beast for saying that...

Gotta love people who don't know what they are talking about, or even play...

For all the info on the game the official website is updated weekly, unlike most Games in development.

Love the weirdness! I love seeing characters like these. They always get my attention and make me want to get a glimpse of the mind who created them.

Awesome. Just awesome. I LOVE xkcd, and I'm not sure how I missed that one. You get major cool points for bringing that to my attention.

It's xkcd! It's Star Trek! It's gay! What's not to laugh about?

I love xkcd! I was happily surprised to see the TNG reference.

ALSO - note how Counselor Troi is depicted as just standing there contributing absolutely nothing to the story whatsoever. Just thought I'd point that out...

Haha well there are probably other fleet members who know far more than i do, but there is a wiki here.

You have the two sides (Republic and Sith)

Each has two force using classes, then a smuggler/bounty hunter, and Trooper/Agent. (Four classes in total)

Each class can choose a specialisation (i guess similar to wow talent trees).

It seems you can get your own ship eventually, and even a companion (not sure what benefits these provide)

I'm not sure how much detail has been released on things like character customisation etc, but I expect it will be good (at least I hope it is given the limited race/class combinations they are starting with).

*tries to think of more stuff...*
