Free to play = Constant rate of content. It's preferable to the current rate we have.

Suddenly I had this vision of orbital billboards around all of the major, inhabited planets. Warp to Vulcan: COLGATE, "GAH!" warp to earth: McDONALDS, NOOOOOOOO!

Though... if they did, I think it should be appropriate. Warping to Andoria should greet you with billboards of "Dentine Ice" and going to vulcan should get you a billboard for "Gatorade" (Cause it's hot and deserty. :3) And, yeah, earth should have a McDonalds billboard. xD

If you got this far, thanks for reading my rant.

Well said, Z. There is something to be said for going to the effort of adding romance into the game and then making another conscious decision to exclude a group. In this day and age, I equate it to excluding a gender or race from the game.

Ironically, you get a better space combat engine (even if you are limited to what feels like driving a submarine... except for the ability to move vertically without angling up or down and thrusting forward.) in Star Trek Online whose IP has less space combat than Star Wars.

Still, though, the ground game's brilliance almost completely compensates for the space games uselessness.

If this game goes free to play I might give it a whirle to try it out. I know a wee bit about Star Trek so it would be fun to see a bit more and heck your own ship is always a fun thing.

Oh well at least we get a ship even it's a barely minimul usage thing.

I've done end game in WoW and Rift so hopefully I'll get a chance to see some end game in SW:TOR.

It's Friday and with no beta invite I guess I'll clean the house this weekend. :( There are 3 more chances this month!!!

the lotro f2p system is bad. many things was free before. now u must pay for the stuff like crafting or quests.
thats bad
i hope they make a better f2p system as lotro.

Before going FTP you accessing the quests required a subscription and buying the expansions (SoA, MoM, SoM). Since going FTP you can choose between a subscription or buying quest packs. Several of these quest packs are completely free. I do not know how you would pay with TP for crafting.

I'm pretty sure that we'll be focusing on a PvE server for the time being. We'll still be able to PvP, but not have to contend with others in open areas. If desired, we could always open up a PvP branch.

They are going to make a full announcement next week, but, I do know that no playable content or areas are being considered to be restricted, at this time. Expect to see things like less ship options, costumes, character types ETC

Overall, if you are paying now or are lifetime, things are going to get even better!

Don't get too attached to the idea of "flying" around in your ship. All space combat is a single player rail shooter a-la Starfox. Seriously. So as long as you can point and click, you'll be able to do it.

The reason for this is that it wasn't even really intended for the game, but only added as a sort of a cheap afterthought at the behest of the demands of the fans. They have already (belligerently) refused to do any more with it (I read several reports (on the public SWTOR forums) of them becoming quite... unpleasant at conventions when the fans confronted them about the poorly thought out space shooter.)

Server?

September 02 2011
Good Morning All,

I apologize, I am talkative today. I'm curious if there has been any decision about what server we will be based on yet, so when The Time comes we are all on the same one. If not, any idea if we would lean toward a PVP, PVE, or RP-PVP server?

Heh, I just read a great rumor that guilds will be able to get a carrier of their own as a guild hall. That could be fun. It makes me wonder what we would name it. Is it inappropriate of me to suggest "Priscilla, Queen of Tatooine"?

Other thoughts (I'm sleep deprived, sorry) include The DiverCity, if ship or guild is large enough.

Re: No same-gender romances in SWTOR.

Hi All,
I have been following this topic for the last week or so on the SWTOR forums. In fact, that is how I came to know that KoS existed. It certainly is frustrating that there are no SGRA's. It is no less than discrimination, but it will not keep me from playing the game. Just as Star Trek is a great myth for our time, so is Star Wars. I can't NOT play it.
I think there is a great outcry from our community and participation in the discussion is the only thing that will make things change. I don't think boycotting is the answer. In fact I wrote a letter to GLAAD today to see what they can do. Here is the response:

Hi Richard,
We actually wrote about this situation just last week:
http://glaadblog.org/2011/08/26/upcoming-game-skyrim-to-feature-marriage-between-same-sex-couple-but-not-so-for-star-wars-mmo
Thanks very much for contacting us though, and please feel free to comment on it further on our website.
Best,
Matt

So as you see, there is already bad press out there, and it won't stop. We need to keep on them about it. Keep posting in the forum. There have been 26 threads on the subject and thousands of comments. This will not go away if we don't let it go away. Here is a link to the latest thread: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=460624&highlight=gender+romance+story+arcs

The reason I am so passionate about this is that SWTOR will be played by millions of people. The franchise is astronomical, and it's cultural influence is far reaching. Changes in the world happen through culture, and in this day and age, the culture of discrimination just is NOT acceptable. They opened the door by adding romantic story arcs in the first place. It is up to us to upgrade the conversation. I think we have a chance to make a difference in this. It may happen soon, or later, or not at all, but I think it will be worth it.

If you got this far, thanks for reading my rant.
