So, we have 8 Classes x 2 sexualities (gay/lesbian), that makes 16 new Companions to make.

I think it's really unlikely they'll make a romanceable les and gay male companion for each class. What's probably going on is that they've got a patch in mind already for adding new companions, and that some of them will have same-sex romance options. And/or some extant companions will be 'turned' bisexual - folk will be more iffy about this but it'd be the least difficult way to do it. Hell, if I were them I'd thrown in some genderless or genderqueer companions too.

I also predict faction-specific or multi-class companions with same-sex romance options being patched in, to make them more widely available.

It wouldn't bother me if I was playing a Trooper and there were no gay romance options with any Trooper companions. That's just like real life - not everyone you meet is open to romance. It only bothers me if there's romance in general, but that none of it is same-sex.

In my opinion I don't think that they would have created the survey (and the hype that surrounded it) if they hadn't actually already decided to add the content. That means planning I think like most games they have a separate team working on post launch stuff as we speak and I'm optomistic that they had already started the work prior to the confirmation. Lets face it one of the things a company will do to generate hype will be to have something controversial (which this topic is) I don't think they were doing it just for giggles, I think they had planned on having it all along and wanted to use this as a way to get people talking about the game. But again just my opinion.

For me I'm going to wait and see. I have no experience with BioWare games so I don't want to count anything out yet.

I like that they've come out and said they will add them. I'm not a programmer nor am I an person who works in the gaming industry so again I won't count them out on being able to pull this off within 12 months of release.

I'm going to play the game, enjoy the lore (since I'm not up SW lore this will be exciting for me) and have fun with my guild mates as we tackle the challenges in game.

Ok, I really don't want to sound like trolling. This is a serious concern.

So, we have 8 Classes x 2 sexualities (gay/lesbian), that makes 16 new Companions to make. Now consider the newest video about how complex and demanding making Companions is:

http://massively.joystiq.com/2011/09/23/swtor-companions-detailed-in-new-video-interview/

Ok, if you watched the video, at least I thought: how the heck can we really hope to EVER really really get gay & lesbian Companions? This sounds like a years work, not to talk about the fact they have a plethora of other things to add and work on! I mean, come on, do you really believe they priorize gay & lesbian Companions, 16 new characters?? Just for us? I mean, heck it took them 6 frigging weeks just to answer! They worked on this game for 5+ years! And in such a big team there isn't a single gay employee who could have told them earlier?? It makes no sense to me, and it makes ME quite afraid we are not going to see this before a year or what. And even then. I have a VERY hard time to see Bioware "Hey look here is the huge first addon, SIXTEEN new companions... and they are all homos!" LIKE HELL.

Sorry. I am just so very burnt on this topic. Let me know what you think, please.

Thanks hon! That was really great to watch and now I want a jawa companion, they are so cute!!!

edit: does anyone know if you can pick the gender of your campions? I might have missed this somewere so I apologize if this was already discussed. But from what I can see it looks random. I hope not and I hope we get to pick their gender.

Adam, my thoughts are with you. All too often we let loved ones move in and out of our lives without letting them know our feelings.

Re: Perpetual Entertainment vs Cryptic Studios

I would have to say I would have loved to see PE's world come to life. I followed the Star Trek MMO from PE's first official announcement they had the IP and were starting it up. (They went bankrupt because some of their financial supporters pulled out cause CBS wouldn't let them have unconditional rights to the IP, ie they had to get approval like cryptic does for races/changes/factions etc.) It was a sad day for me cause i loved the PR on it. The player run ships, from their info that Engineers could upgrade ships, make engines better, shields, "craft" weapons and gear etc. Also how every person started with their own shuttle/runabout/flyer and the bigger the ship the more people required to fly it.
I think one of their biggest statements that got me hooked, was their example of a borg invasion. Where they stated 20-30 ships could show up to repel a Borg cube, and IF the players were lucky there would be 1-2 surviving ships at the end of an encounter. Now "THAT'S" the scale of a borg encounter. Not our, oh look a borg tactical cube, don't worry, I'll bring my Sovereign, you bring your Defiant refit, and we'll just bring an NX-01, a Miranda, and an Oberth to leech some easy XP. Yeah.. that feels REAL borglike. ;)

Oh no, I'm so sorry :(

It's very much important to let people know how much you appreciate them because there's no guarantees on time and you just never know what may happen tomorrow.

I'm very sorry for your loss.

A bright light in my life burned out on Sept 9th, 2011 and my life came crashing down around me when I found out that he was gone. Life will be just a little bit dimmer for me.

My previous boyfriend, Jason, was 28 years old when he succumbed to a combination of medicinal allergy and septicemia. Due to the remote area that he lived in, it took 11 days before I found out. I never got a final chance to tell him that I still loved and cared for him before he was gone.

Please, please, please! Make sure to take the time to tell the people in your life how much they mean to you, that you care and love them despite any differences. I will always regret that I was unable to do that before My Jason was taken from me.

It all looks very interesting - as a late comer I wasn't aware of any of this.

Some of the concepts sound quite good. One of the things I lament about STO, for all its good points, the stuff to do with your ship is, even now, still just a bit of a bolt-on. The interiors, the crew - there's a lot of what made Star Trek what it was missing - the interaction on the bridge, the ship-board action - these have been as integral to Star Trek as the exploration and your ship warping around and getting into space battles.

The interiors in Cryptic's STO was a bolt on, and still is just a bolt on. They serve no purpose other than to look awful and hastily done (in my opinion). When people come to your ship, they tend to hang out in 1 of 2 places; the oversized bridge or the oversized lounge. I would have loved to have seen how Perpetual handled the game. They looked like they were going for an even 50/50 split between ship and person.

While the perpetual ship concepts looked awful, as NicholasJohn16 pointed out, the initial cryptic concepts looked like butt as well. I really doubt the player staffed ships would have lasted long outside of the concept stage, if they had kept the game; but I do believe that having actual Star Trek designers on hand would have put the game head and shoulders above Cryptic's current model.
