Re: SWTOR Companion Gift Guide

January 06 2012
There's something I've been wondering and I can't seem to find a definite answer anywhere. Using the info below as an example, what do the two values represent that are separated by a comma? Do these refer to Light, Dark or maybe Male, Female?? From looking at the Google Docs link I'm thinking this might be whether you're Light / Dark but I'm not sure.

I'm hoping it's not male, female because that's not the direction I thought Bioware was going to go. I know we don't have SSRO yet but I wonder if I can at least give my male companion a courting gift to increase affection. You know, just start off as "friends"

Weapon: love
Military Gear: favorite, love
Courting: indifferent, like
Luxury: like, love
Technology: indifferent
Republic Memorabilia: indifferent
Imperial Memorabilia: indifferent
Cultural Artifact: indifferent
Trophy: like
Underworld Good: favorite, love

Also just a note when talking on the forums there is a Spoiler icon or you can use
Spoiler Text Here
So it doesn't ruin it for people so you could be talking and just say
then it is up to people to click it to view it :cheer:

I'm having a bit too much fun just clicking the link now

I've also had people freak out about what they perceive to be spoilers which are really not spoiler material to anyone that has followed the series pre-game. Like Revan's history -- not sure about what the game says about Revan, but I do know Revan from other sources.

Episode 484 - Voyager - "Persistence of Vision" - 10/30/1995

The crew experience hallucinations brought on by an alien that put them into a trance-like state.

Enjoy!

Wordpress is nice for blogs and stuff, but I'm a much bigger fan of Joomla which our site runs on. Joomla is a content management system that supports a whole host of extensions and its very easy to learn. Joomla can easily do blogs as well. You may want to look into it as well.

Check out the following link for a backup method to get the 2nd Sandcrawler datacron (if you miss the platform for it).

One of the main reasons why I'm not a big fan of 'Stonewall Gaming Community' is because of its commonality.

...

"Gaming communities" is a very generic, unoriginal, unimaginative name. I'd like to think that we're more unique and creative than that. We do things differently than most 'gaming communities' and we go out of our way to do things the best, most logical way instead of just 'the way that guilds do it.' I think our name should reflect that.

I agree with that sentiment Nick - and looking at it from a branding/identity standpoint -- with so many other organizations using "gaming community", it gets easy to confuse many of them. It also doesn't really stand out from a search engine perspective.

There are some cool suggestions on the list above, lots of good input in this discussion!

WordPress might still be a good option. You're able to make different pages as well as upload galleries. You can check out one of my sites, kiddkasper.com that shows some of that. It's a bit sparse at the moment because I'm actually in somewhat of the middle of changing hosting providers.

I was actually thinking a little more than showing off my work. I wanted to start writing guides for ToR. I have been working on one for the site and having a lot of fun with it. So I wanted to continue even after I was done with that.

There are many free hosting solutions that exist. However, I don't have a lot of experience with most of them.

If your goal is to essentially showcase your work, www.wordpress.com might be a good option. They have thousands of customizable templates, help documentation and is fairly easy to use.

Re: A 'Star Trek' Writers resource

January 05 2012
Probably the best resource for canon information is the Memory Alpha wiki. If you're interested in the "expanded universe" via the various novels or other officially licensed works, there's also a Memory Beta wiki with loads of info. There's also the Daystrom Institute Technical Library which has tons of info on ships and tech, as well as species and personnel, with loads of pictures.

I'm not much of a fan-fic writer, but I still find these sites to be really useful in my general nerdery, and for pen-and-paper RPGs.

Need website tech advice (not this website heh)

January 05 2012
I know we have quite a few tech oriented people so I wanted to ask for some advice. My income isn't huge and I wanted to create a website. I'm a graphic designer as a hobby (went to school but had to leave... hope to start up again eventually). I can do the coding thing but it in no way comes natural lol.

What I basically need to know if there are any free sites out there that anyone has experienced that are decent? I've checked around but felt really iffy. I thought about doing like Blogger that looks like a website but then again it boils down to my not having enough Tylenol in order to code it to look how I want haha.

Any advice or ideas are greatly appreciated!

A 'Star Trek' Writers resource

January 05 2012
I hope I'm not out of place starting this thread here.

Though I have some knowledge of the vast universe that is Star Trek, mostly from watching episodes of Next Gen when I was a kid with my Grandpa (he had the hots for Troy) and from diligently watching Voyager (the 'hip' series) when I was in high school.
I know so little about spiefics: Star Fleet history, aliean classes and history, fleet information, Planets, Federation protocol. So on and so forth. This is an issue for me because I love writing fanfic. I've done so in much easier fandoms, but if Im going to write any Star Trek stories... I want to do it right.

I was hoping this thread could be used as a resource... quick questions asked and answered. Links to great Star Trek information outlets shared (responsibly), and maybe a few opinions asked for and offered. I know I'm going to need all the help I can, but who knows maybe others might find need for it to.

1) Even when I check "remember me" on the login page, it's not keeping me logged in. I've enabled cookies and other websites seem to remember me, but I need to login here each time I come to visit. Anyone have any suggestions on how to fix/adjust this to keep me actually logged in? I'm using Firefox on PC with Windows Vista.

This is a problem that people have reported on and off for years. I've never been able to track down the cause.

I use Windows Vista and Firefox and it works perfectly for me.

In Firefox's menu, click Options, then go to the Privacy tab and click on remove individual cookies. This will bring up the browser for cookies. In the search bar enter 'stonewallfleet' or 'knightsofstonewall' and see if you have cookies saved there. The main one you'll be looking for has a name and content that's basically a bunch of random numbers and letters.

If you find it, it should be working.
