In all the MMO's I've played I've yet to encounter a PvP setup that operates the way the devs envisioned it. PvP zones tend to bring out the absolute worst of gamer trolls out there.

This is why I stay away from PvP. I like to pvp but hate the trolls and poo poo heads that ruin it.

Re: Very quiet since the guild split

January 20 2012
I'm on every nite from 5:30pm - 10pm EST and yes guild chat has been quiet. Thou at times it's more active when folks are asking questions about crafting or in game stuffs.

It's bound to happen with guild split, folks leaving the guild and paying attention to the npc's and their dialog. Don't forget space missions, when I do all of them it takes about 35-40 min and you are unable to speak in guild chat or see it.

Whats sad is that in SoS there maybe 2-6 folks on while in KoS there are 25+ folks on, many in SoS complain that it's lonely even thou there is the joint chat channel.

We've had alot of folks leave the guild so I'm not sure if there is really a need for two separate guilds. The officers could go thru and remove those that have not logged in 30 days I bet we could re combine the guilds and just hold on to the SoS guild as a back up if needed.

I'd be leaning towards the fact that the holidays are over with, and people are getting back to their regular schedules. The nights I log in, most of the time chat is rocking. It does quiet down a bit every so often, which I always assume is when most of the people logged in are out running quests.

Jon,

I haven't actually had a chance to experience this yet, my highest lvl Imp toon right now is only lvl 12 and still sitting on the fleet twiddling his thumbs. This sounds really interesting and I can't wait to experience it!

Questing Timelines (spoiler free)

January 20 2012
For anyone who had played both Empire and Republic sides I noticed something while talking to my partner that we found amusing. When leveling your level is almost the timeline of when events happening.

Without giving any details an example is in Taris you worked to gain control as a republic person at an earlier level. In the later levels on the Empire you visit Taris and a lot of your quests are actually to undo the actions your Republic character did because of the effect it had. I personally thought how they decided quests to be almost in a timeline of events from one to other makes it really interesting to level both as you then get the cause and effect.

I think this is the first time that I have seen an MMO do this and thought it was really neat. Has anyone else noticed this? Did you like it?

I know it doesn't solve the immediate question but I can say honestly the best way to get more people into the guild is to actually be socialable outside of the guild. You guys are all really cool people to hang with (I hope you all realize this). So by questing and grouping up with others you will actually get them interested in our guild.

Then when they ask you just refer them to the website to get registered and we'll get them all setup. Word of mouth in an MMO is the best advertising! This also helps people to get more people in the guild during a time that they play.

When I've been on I haven't noticed it being quiet. I haven't been on the last 2 nights as I have been leveling my bounty hunter. It could be a combination of quite of few things. The holiday breaks being over, people getting to a level they had a goal and rolled an alt on the imp side to try it. It could also be like you said with the end of the 30 days and people quitting.

Unfortunately there isn't a way in guild info to see like last played time so I really couldn't give you a trend pattern as I might otherwise be able to figure out. I know on the weekends it is busy though it could be possible peoples schedules just changed.

Very quiet since the guild split

January 20 2012
Hey folks. I'm not sure if it is just coincidence of the guild split or the 30 days is up for the free month, but Ive noticed that it has become very quiet when I log in between 9-10 PST. I also noticed the online on the Jedi guild is about 12-15 the last few nights, so if I assume that about 12-15 is in the sister guild at the same time, its about 15-20 members less on average then just a couple of weeks ago.

When I log in and say hi the last two nights, there's been no response and I barely see any chat at all in the main channel. Just a week ago the guild chat was so lively. I realize the split by class was over-dramatized by some (I never voted here, would have voted against it, but its not that important to me) and the joint channel should allow for the same level of chat as before, but is any one else noticing it or is it just me? Maybe its just the typical lull post launch perhaps.

Thanks again for taking care of 'masterowen' JJ. Hopefully he'll think twice the next time he pulls that stunt.

I've never personally understood why PvE servers had a toggle PvP option or for that matter why PvP ones do as well. The option itself is what kills it. I played on PvP servers for years and typically world pvp is just camping and petty fighting (and rarely is it fair).

The reason people do it on PvE servers is because people let them they get upset and frustrated rather than the PvP mindset of getting even lol. If people grab a friend or 2 and decide to retaliate people will think of doing it less and less because it doesn't become fun for them.

With pvp and heroics being server wide and stopping there we will end up with a reputation as a guild. I figured it would be good to have the reputation of we defend each other. Then people think twice when they see our tags lol.

Revenge is sweet

January 20 2012
So today Tobin had a Jedi who did the lovely stand in your aoe and flag you for pvp then kill you. So I decided since I love PvP I'd go take a stand for our guildy. So I jumped in my ship with just a name in hand and traveled to the last known Co-Ordinates. I then used a bit of my hunter skills to finally find my target.

I did eventually find my tagged target and thought it was so fun I captured the moment. One Jedi down and a few to go in the name of safety.

Re: The most bizarre Perfect World ad....

The sad thing is that the whole "selling the brand" thing works more often than people like to admit. I mean it runs the gamut from the bread & peanut butter you buy to the electronics that fill your home. We all know the Mac fanboys, but think about the last time you went to the store and got peanut butter... Why did you buy the brand you bought, not because there is a major difference in the peanut butter (unless you buy organic stuff) you probably bought it because that's what you always get. You buy the brand.

Re: The Gay Rights Movement

In the last few days, this video has gone viral and the project with it.

3,214 Backers have pledged $132,821 of a $50,000 goal with 49 days to go. Pretty awesome really. I suppose that means the documentary will be made.

While I admire this project and am eager to watch the result, I find his scope to be a bit broad. It's hard to cover every part of the gay rights struggle in one documentary, unless it's 5 hours long.

For those of you who are interested, there are already quite a few good queer history documentaries out there. Two of my favorites are Before Stonewall and After Stonewall. The two films split queer history by one of the biggest defining moments in our history and do a great job of covering a lot of information. Another favorite of mine is Paragraph 175 which is about the struggle of homosexuals in Nazi Germany, which includes first hand interviews with those detained and branding with the pink triangle.

I had a phase where I watched old commercials from time to time. There's definitely been a transition in advertising.

In the 50s and 60s, commercials were still largely about informaing people about products and services. Then thru the 70s and 80s, it changed to giving people warm fuzzies about products.

Today, companies are all about their "brand". Forget about the details of the products, you should buy it because you like the company that makes it.
