Oooo... new and shiny!!
I downloaded the client and gave it a bit of a test drive. Essentially, what this system boasts, is positional in-game voice chat, and the ability to voice morph. An added benefit is an in-game overlay, to show which user is chatting and when (very, very awesome!)
The pros and cons that I can see with just my preliminary testing are as follows:
PROS:- Spify new client
- Setup was a breeze
- Online voice chat friends lists
- Create an online voice-chat profile, complete with picture!
- Voice morphing
- In game-overlay (my personal fave!!)
- Appears to be a free service (might this change?)
CONS:- The positional voice-chat isn't yet supported by STO, GW2, or TOR
- Each user can create a maximum of five, permanent channels
- The Stonewall website currently has an integrated list that shows online voice chat users. This wouldn't work with SONY'S service at this time
- You need to use Sony's servers (you can't run a server on your own computer. This raises potential server reliability concerns, and we'd have to abide with SONY'S terms of service
- You have to register as a SONY user
As I had nobody else to test this with, the sound quality is an unknown, though they boast that it's supposed to be quite good.
Personally, I think it's a really cool new voice chat client, and would love to be able to use some of those new features! That being said, I recognize that there's really no need for us to switch, as vent is adequate for our purposes, but it might be cool to give this some consideration!
Thanks for sharing, Shadow!
