Welcome! Man, what is it with the hot British people around here? It's enough to make a California boy consider giving up sunshine to head across the pond.

Also, I sympathize with the turning 30 thing. I'll be hitting the big 3-0 myself this August.

on my Jemmy Dreadnought when my attack ships decide to do ramming speed and ram an enemy ship, I see a text over them that says, setting auto pilot, preparing for emergency beamout. (or something of the sort)

So is that on the NPC chat tab or something? because I've never seen it on my Jemmy Dreadnought

I see it on mine often enough, it probably shows up on the NPC chat tab, yes. Otherwise you can see it in a NPC contact bubble above the Jem Hadar ship before she rams. Seeing that happen on the USS Royal Ascension is very fun!

The entire area you start from on Makeb is a "rest area". I was looking for the same thing and noticed when I crossed the bridge to return to the ship I came in on, it said "leaving rest area" and when I retraced my steps back over the bridge, it said "entering rest area". That's really nice not having to actually find a cantina to log out in or having to return to your ship.

The other thing I noticed is that transportation fees have been ramped up big time. Where it used to cost less than 200 credits to fly to and from planets, most of the fees have been raised considerably above that. It costs 2300 credits to fly from the fleet to Makeb! :( I saw several other similar fees to other planets but that was the highest. :S

Re: Annual Las Vegas Star Trek Convention Fleet Meet-up [Update]

April 12 2013
Just a quick little bump with some new info about the convention. The autograph and autograph with photo-op schedules have been released. They are of course subject to change but in my experience most of the celebrities times and dates remain the same leading up to the convention. Photo-ops are great and you actually get a picture with your favorite Star Trek celebrity and then you get an autographed copy of that same photo.

Follow this link and scroll down to where it says "Autographs" for a more detailed run-down:

Here's a pic of Garrett Wang (pronounced "Wong") who is one of the funniest regulars at the conventions. His Captain Janeway impression will have you rolling in the aisles.

Here's a pic from last year with Marina Sirtis up on the main stage. She was actually kinda drunk and it was utterly hilarious.

New Writing and Live Journal

April 12 2013
Hello, All!

So I've been reading all the RP works done by our talented writers here, and I became encouraged to take another stab at writing again, myself. With that, I thought I would share my LiveJournal page that I’ve written on/off over several years for Captain Rasilek, my “main” character in the STO/Trek universe. Other characters featured include those I’ve RP’d with in-game in the past, while others include my alt. characters such as my Caitian, Arlo.

Anyway, all stories can be found at rasilek.livejournal.com. The first entry I posted (~3 years ago) that includes Rasilek’s bio can be found here. As under a typical blog format, the most recent entries are on the front page and are preceded by those on the previous pages.

While I cannot share the blog and Ras's story here in entirety, below are the latest segments I've just posted, with Common Imperative being the start of another multi-part arc I am working on currently. As always, I hope you enjoy reading as much as I’ve come to enjoy writing. More to come...

New 2013 Posts (In order of events):

I am a little iffy about the past two episodes. I love Doctor Who but feel a little let down.

Re: Doctor Who?...

Rings of Ahkaten was a very mixed bag for me. I agree that it was over-the-top and rather non-sensical in the parts you mentioned (though, I interpreted the "never run away unless we have something precious" differently).

However, that said, I totally got teary-eyed when the Doctor started yelling at the space parasite. For some reason, the Doctor crying gets me going, and I don't usually cry during TV and movies.

I kind of feel like the whole episode may have been a flimsy premise to have the Doctor and Clara put their "I'm so lonely!" cards on the table for each other. I'm still looking forward to the rest of the season, but Akhaten confirmed that Moffat has run out of steam has a showrunner. Really looking forward to someone else taking the helm (and, if reports are to be believed, a new Doctor come year's end).

Federation meta question: carrier fodder

April 11 2013
As per the current zeitgeist (and Cryptic's profit strategy), it appears that the Federation is transferring towards incorporating carrier doctrines at some level, what with the Atrox, Armitage, and Vesta crunchies.

On the KDF side, I figure it makes sense, being it would be an honorable death in battle.

But on the Fed side, having living pilots seems...unlikely. I've been mentally figuring that the Fed uses low-AI retrofits to fly the carrier wings - nothing as advanced as an Emergency Hologram, let alone Soong-level androids but capable enough to have minimal command response and adaptation. (It would also explain why the Peregrines occasionally do their own damn thing.)

Thoughts? How do you write around the issue?

Re: Doctor Who?...

Bells of Stain John wasn't too bad, but I was not crazy about Rings of Akhaten. It was too over the top, even for Doctor Who. The whole "We never run away bit" was all nice and cool until he was like "But now we have something precious, so we run away very fast!" while completely ignoring the fact that an entire system of intelligent beings would be destroyed by this 'god' which would include, I imagine, several million "precious" children. Also, after he basically killed the sun, how did the planets in the system have enough heat to not became completely frozen and killing everyone?
