My 8th podcast is available for download here: tinyurl.com/b9vbh6m

Sort of along the lines of the "Night" playlist (No. 6) I posted previously, This one goes a little more in-depth in the spirit of adventure and curiosity.

To those who enjoy venturing out into uncharted star clusters to find those new worlds, or just people who live to see more, this one is dedicated to you.

Enjoy. Never stop exploring. :)

My Take on The Solanae Dyson Science Destroyer:

Photos and my Review to follow shortly

Now I've had the Dyson Science Destroyer for about 24 hours now and I have to firstly say a big well done to Cryptic for such a breath of fresh air in ship design yet still retaining the Federation feel.

1: Design

Aesthetically the Ship look gorgeous with it's sleek design

Thanks to reverse engineering, and hard work from Star fleets best Engineers we have this amazing looking vessel.

2: Functionality

Base Turn is roughly 12 Degrees which makes the Dyson very fast especially handy during combat ( I've done some extensive combat testing on the Borg Dailies)

And have to say the Ship is very capable when you need to evade a heavy Torpedo or Several Cubes firing at you.

Secondary Deflector: This is I have to say absolutely brilliant and really does make a difference when in the heat of battle and gives some valuable seconds to recharge your shields.

Tactical mode :woohoo: :woohoo: : What can I say the humble science vessel becomes a flying Cannon fest " Literally" You essentially have 4 Forward Weapon slots and 3 Aft

Here's some more specs:

Federation Variant – Solanae Class

Faction: Federation
Required Rank: Rear Admiral
Availability: 2014 Anniversary Event Reputation Project
Hull Strength: 28,500
Shield Modifier: 1.3
Crew: 400
Weapons: 3 Fore, 3 Aft (+Solanae Dual Heavy Proton Cannons in Tactical Mode)
Device Slots: 3
Bridge Officer Stations: 1 Ensign Tactical, 1 Lieutenant Commander Tactical, 1 Lieutenant Engineering, 1 Lieutenant Science, 1 Commander Science
Console Modifications: 3 Tactical, 2 Engineering, 4 Science
Base Turn Rate: 12 degrees per second
Impulse Modifier: 0.16
Inertia: 50
+15 Auxiliary Subsystems
Can Equip Dual Cannons
Subsystem Targeting
Sensor Analysis
Secondary Deflector Slot
Solanae Secondary Deflector
Solanae Overcharged Warp Core

The cannons " only activated in Tactical mode ( has a great animation too where the Necells move forward and the Saucer section opens)

This also gives more options at your disposal effectively giving you 4 Fore weapons at your disposal as well as " Tactical " only options.

NOW TACTICAL MODE: Say goodbye to the humble science Vessel and say hello to the Shark " I call it a shark because the fire-power can be brutal.

" You your biological and technical essence will become part of our own"

I also have to say just because it is a " Science" Vessel doesn't necessarily rule out engineer or tactical classes as I think the ship is versatile enough for whoever is at the helm.

It also depends on your play style in my opinion whether your all guns a blazing or the silent type who likes to hit and run.

If you want more info on what I have found out so far or my own take feel free to message me here or in game

Greetings!

Where did January go?!? I know everyone is busy collecting Qmendations and some of you already HAVE a Dyson Science ship (WTG!) but if you do get bored of logical Tuvokisms, feel free to drop me some articles, posts and even pictures...for the next edition of the Stonewall Times :)

I'm hoping that someone will cover the new Dyson science destroyers or even a review of Season 8.5 and its changes. Show us your creative juices!

Write long and proper!

Thank you all for the kind words. This fleet is also another reason I am where I am today, as Nick brought me into the Admiralty prior to the game's launch. I would have never met Mark if it wasn't for this fleet, which would have meant no Priority One, which would have meant probably would never have had the opportunity to work on the game.

So thank you to each of you, and to Nick.

As for CaptainSmirk, I think some of you may know him ;) I'm not going to reveal who he is unless he does first. lol

Cheers,

Brandon =/\=

I don't think I've ever met anyone who's as passionate about his job, quite as much as BranFlakes. I agree that the promotion's a well earned one!

Grats Brandon!

That is deeply insensitive, disparaging, and offensive.

The correct term is 'Butt-Pirate-American'.

STO Community Manager BranFlakes transitions to new role with Perfect World.

February 02 2014
Please congratulate our good buddy, Brandon (aka BranFlakes community manager for STO) on his new role for PWE!

http://sto-forum.perfectworld.com/showthread.php?t=1005681

In the forum he posted:

"Hi Captains,

Before I start, I would like to preface that the delivery of this message is something that I have been selfishly postponing for a couple weeks now. I have been dreading writing this as it is one of the hardest things I have had to do while working here; however, this is not a goodbye, but it is a "see you around".

First, I would like to convey how much this community, you all, mean to me, and how much the game and the Star Trek Online Team has influenced and played an integral part in my life. Words are hard to describe how much passion I have for this community and game. Next to my family and friends, STO is one of the most important things to me. As you all know, I have been playing since Closed Beta, well before working here, and I have been a fan of the Star Trek franchise since I was a child. This game has brought so much into my life and being able to work on it has been a dream come true. When I started Priority One Podcast back in the game's launch year, I never dreamed that I would actually end up getting here, performing in an official capacity for the team. It was one of those dreams that I always thought about, but thought I could never turn into a reality. Well, I can attest that you should never give up on your dreams. Being your Community Manger since November 2011 has been a dream come true, and I always told myself that I would be okay if this is what I did for the rest of my life, as I felt it is what I was always been meant to do.

A couple weeks ago, I was asked by upper management to step into a new role. Because of my work here on Star Trek Online, and the feedback you all have provided about me working with you, has enabled me to take this next step. Starting tomorrow, I will be transitioning into Community Team Lead for all of Perfect World Entertainment. I will be responsible for and managing all of the Community Managers and Community Management Specialists on our various games, working with them to take our communities to the next level. Due to this, unfortunately, it is not possible to continue my role as Community Manager of Star Trek Online (unless we can figure out a way to add 24 more hours in the day, of course). It is with mixed emotions that I share this with you as in one way it is an amazing opportunity, and in the other way it means that I will not be working directly on the game any longer or with you all. With that said, I still will be playing a role in the Community and game, but in a way that will not be as visible.

So what happens to the Community Manager position for STO? Well, I am excited to let you know that our very own CaptainSmirk (Trevor) will be taking over my role -- you can read his original intro post here from when he first joined the team. He has been playing the game since Closed Beta as well, and I would even say that he knows the Star Trek IP even better than me (he can come up with the best references on the drop of a dime)! He will be stopping by in a few days to talk about his new role. Of course, I will also be working with him to transfer everything (hence the transfer of command code) into his purview. He will still be doing the same great initiatives that I worked on (sharing tons of blogs and news, chatting with you all and answering your questions here and on Facebook and Twitter, Livestreaming, community events, working with our partners and podcasts, and much more. He is going to do amazing and I am very excited that he is going to be in the Community captain's chair. We are very lucky to have him.

The great thing is that moving into this position means that this is not a goodbye. I am still here and STO will always hold a special place in my heart. That will never, and could never, change. The position I will be taking on will be a little bit different; overall, I have oversight of everything STO community related. I will still stop by the forums and chat with you all as time allows. Additionally, I will still be on Twitter and of course will still be in-game playing and adventuring in the final frontier with you all. You cannot keep me away from STO.

So, to summarize for those of you who (which, admittedly, I would not be offended by) did not read this wall of text:

TL;DR: I love you guys; Star Trek, this game, and the team mean everything to me; I'm moving into a new role as Community Team Lead for PWE; CaptainSmirk will be moving into the Community captain's chair; and this is not a goodbye.

I will see you around the galaxy, and may you live long and prosper.

Computer, transfer all community command codes to CaptainSmirk. Authorization: Beta 3 Delta 3.

Cheers,

Brandon =/\="

Boldly go, Brandon! Thank you for the hard work you've put into being such a wonderful Community Manager for Star Trek Online! Live long and prosper! *hug squeezes*

With the first month of 2014 reaching an end, the Fleet Bank Donation Drive has ended! The Fleet Resources Department would like to thank everyone who participated in this 31 day event, by donating to the banks, viewing our tutorial video and making an effort to learn the bank rules!

Also, a huge thank you to all who participated in any of our many prize give-aways throughout the month! We were happy to give out in-game energy credits, Zen, games via the Steam gaming platform, Holo-Leeta duty officers and much more!

Your participation in our event has shown the generosity of spirit that exists within our online community. Remember to support your fleet mates by giving generously to your local fleet banks throughout the year, and we'll see you again for the next bank donation drive month in 2015!
