A miner my trade, Rinoss worked her way up through the mining consortium until she could afford to purchase her own ship "Swamp Thing" and in her own words "get out there and pick some noses".
Since then she has left a trail of derelict and destroyed ships. Many of them were academy trained, many of them died. After a while they gave up and left her alone. All their training could not match her natural talent for digging out those nose nuggets. (She has a nose fetish). In fact there are rumors that she has a collection of noses that she keeps in her quarters because "only the nose knows" She even went so far as to pen a short article regarding her appreciation for the nasal protuberance.

Ode to Nose

She has been known to personally beam aboard the bridge of her enemies to collect noses in person. So be wary, be wise and do not let the nose fall off of your face. Warning, she possesses a weapon that shoots liquefied nose goo.

"Swamp Thing"

"Rinoss"

I have pictures to share but as you can see its frustratingly hard to add pictures to your posts. AT least from my point of view having worked on it for an hour :)

[RP] Roleplay 101

September 06 2015
The following tags have been nested in the wrong order: b
I know some people want to join in on the AMAZING excitement that roleplay has, but are sometimes confused as to what's going on, or what to do. From here, I'll give you a few tips and tricks I've learned over the years!

How do I simply talk?
Unlike in the past, we will not be utilizing the SFRoleplay for general speaking. This leads to confusion. All of our "voices" will be in the 'local' channel, that way, you only hear what is going on around you! So if you're on the bridge discussing something with a crewman, you won't know whats going on in engineering unless someone IN engineering (or someone running the RP) tells you about it.
We WILL use the SFRoleplay channel for "comms." So, if I'm in engineering and wanted to hail the bridge I would type this:
(In the SFRoleplay channel) (this designates that you're using the comms system) "Bridge, this is engineering. We have an EPS overload in progress!"

I promise it sounds more complicated than it is!

How do I talk Out Of Character? (OOC: Something you say, but not your character)
Simply put brackets around it! ((this is me talking out of character)) Just remember which chat channel you are talking in, and that way the right people can see it!

Always be aware of your chat channels
It's easy to get mixed up and start talking in the wrong one, we all do it! Simply saying "mt" (mis-tell) lets other players know you didn't mean to say that, either in character, or OOC.

Another helpful hint is that you can ALWAYS make sure you're typing in the correct channel by adding /(channel name) before whatever you type.
If I type /local Wow you have a really nice bedroom - The text "Wow you have a really nice bedroom" will be displayed in the local area. The exact same thing goes for /SFRoleplay!

So if you're ever confused about where you're talking, just err on the side of caution and manually type the channel name!

How do I do actions?

There are two ways!
1) Simply put a * on both ends of the action. *Rayne continued typing a forum thread* -This will show up in whatever chat channel you're in, but the double * is understood that it is an action.
2) Start your text with a ; (example: ; Rayne continued typing a forum thread) This way, it doesn't show any text over your character's head, and you can use it for small things like ; Picks up the glass of water and sips.

Test out what you like better. Either is acceptable!

When do I talk?! Everyone else is talking!!
This can get tricky. The rule of thumb is to say something, then wait your turn. If it's a simply side-comment, don't hesitate to say it, but if it's something that requires an answer, or if another player asks something that requires an answer, WAIT until that has been taken care of, then speak.

RP is all about getting in the mind of what your character would do. You ARE your character!! To this end, remember that IC actions can carry IC consequences. If you pull out a phaser and start shooting IC, then we will respond as such and you will be punished IC accordingly.

Please note: All characters will start with the rank of Lieutenant or lower. That way, we leave room for promotions and other character development! Also, it doesn't make sense to have 10 Commanders on a single ship.

If you have any questions, just ask!! We all started somewhere, and chances are I've had the same issues you've had! Feel free to ask on this thread as well!

Current Roleplay!!!

Just so you know, I'm trying desperately to get into the game right now so I can play today's roleplay. I just can't get past the load screen. This is almost always the case the first day or two after a patch. Yes, I've tried every single bit of advice on the web to get past this bug; no, nothing works; yes, apparently there are other STO players that have my issue and Cryptic hasn't ever fixed it.

Just know, I'm trying.

Thanks
Michael

Enough with the Back Chat.png[/attachment]
Name: Janice Rand
Species: Human/Borg Hybrid
Alias: Primum of Borg
Department: Temporal Operations
Post: Director
Mission: Assimilation Measures for Temporal Assignments
Vessel: I.S.S. Blackskull
Age: 42

***Incoming Priority One Message***

Janice Rand at the age of 10 was removed from her parents, but not by force, but of will. Her parents were working as an adjunct agency in Temporal Mechanics, they couldn't allow their daughter to disturb their work. As good parents, they handed her over to the Terran Forces at an early age in the hopes she would learn discipline and become a decent solider like they were. What they didn't realize how much the labour and the long hours were great for Janice. Each morning at 4:30 she donned a exercise jogger and ran for 2 hours, at 6:30 she ate, showered and returned to school, where they taught the lessons of the conquering of the Vulcans the quelling of the Andorians and history of the beautiful Empire she knew. After studies the would run drills by, running through mazes where the walls moved, jumping over pits of spikes and climbing over piles of scorching sand. As far as she knew this was he life all children had growing up. She quickly excelled in her studies and left most of the lesser students to look up to her.
At age 18 she caught the eye of her instructors who felt Rand was needed for the greater good. Around the same time her parents who dutifully broke the temporal barrier, needed a research assistant to send through time. Janice was up for the challenge, and was quietly removed from her school and placed in the Temporal Operations division, where she oversaw and implemented the first successful human tested time travel experiment. After a year of time manipulation experiments she experienced a build up of chronitons in her system. With the recent enslavement of the Borg and the assimilation of their technology, the Empire had learned of a cure using nanites to purge her system. Rand was wary of the experiment though ultimately agreed to the process. She became the first successful Terran to undergo a nanite treatment, which resulted in some unexpected side effects.
Due to her years of military training, chroniton exposure and borg nannies she learned to silence the other drones of whom she was now connected to and rule over them with an iron fist.
She eventually became a key military asset as the assimilator of past and present technology where she endeavors to points in time and acquires needed assets.
She is strong willed, fierce and cut throat, but believes in a conquer hard/play hard mentality.

Background info:

Each character who decides to participate should come up with a small backstory. You're welcome to be anything from a civilian up to the rank of Lieutenant. From there, you will work your way farther by participating in both in-game, and forum RPs.

We will also suggest a rank based on your RP abilities, and of course, we will help in any way we can!

[RP] Current Roleplay!!!

September 05 2015
Hey guys! Since we seem to have a bit of a lull in the direction of roleplay in Stonewall..

I'll be taking over!!

Please join us tonight, Saturday, Sept. 5, for an all-new, refreshing dive into roleplay! I promise this will be fun and give everyone a great sense of where we can all go from here with our characters, and it will give a GREAT outlet for us to show off what we can do!

I will begin the RP at 7pm EST, but by no means are you hard-set to get there right at 7! We'll have a small "hello my name is" before we start the actual RP.

The intention is to make RP more fun and casual, rather than a set story that will play out each week. I have plans for where things can go to keep the momentum, but at the end of the day, its what you want to see happen!

Making Money in STO

One other things which I think is a good starter are boff powers. You can buy them cheap, at a couple thousand EC - either at the Boff trainer at the academy or by buying cheap boffs on the exchange (or getting boffs through doff missions) and turning them into a manual. The market seems very inefficient right now, because many of those powers, which can be easily obtained, actually sell at the exchange in the range of 100 thousand EC.

Crafting, crafting, crafting.

Sell stuff the rich players want. Because getting EC from the game (vendors or tour the galaxy) will keep your income at whatever maximum Cryptic wanted it to be several years ago. Rich players, though, have EC to throw your way instantly.

What to craft? Gear can make money. Rich players want good mods. That means [pen] [crtd]x3, [pen] [dmg]x3, [dmg]x4, or [crtd]x4 for weapons. Make mk ii, use a superior upgrade kit with a research boost (2x) and it'll go UR or gold with one kit and you can see if the mods are worth taking it to mk xiv with. For other gear, you'll just have to make it and check the exchange.

Superior upgrade kits are simpler, steady source of income.

I don't pay for the game so I can only have 10mln EC

I don't pay for the game but still have more than that :) I would have to check my inventory to get a more precise number, but I would estimate my current worth at about 8 billion EC.

Buying the EC cap increase is one the first things you should be doing - and no, it doesn't require real money. You pay with zen, which you can buy from other players from dilithium. You can't get serious about accumulating wealth if you're stuck at 10 million cap. Many items I sell bring more profit than that.

To what was already mentioned (sell stuff you get from the missions, tour the galaxy, crafting high level items, sell keys) I would also add:
- check the exchange for opportunities. Quite often people would list various items at a fraction of their market value. Buy and relist at a higher price. That's how I actually make most of my money.
- get missions that give contraband. You can either directly sell it on the exchange (at a range of 40-45k per piece) or turn it into dilithium, dilithium to zen, buy keys and sell them (which is more profitable but takes more times and requires you do spend your dilithium on a specific item rather than investing in other things you might be interested in).
- get missions that give you doffs. Every one you can. You can buy prisoners in a 4-6k range, and then exchange them to normal doffs through a mission. You can buy white doffs (if you don't have any) (20-25k) and exchange them to a higher quality ones in the Alpha sector. You can get refugees and use them in Asylum missions all across the galaxy. You will normally get a higher quality doff, often a blue one, which you can then sell on the exchange - and some specializations sell at really high prices (blue Technicians would normally give you several million EC for example, blue Research or Fabrication sell for around one million). Even if you only get a green doff, it's still a profit.

I don't pay for the game so I can only have 10mln EC and no other means of earning them than in game. I did Tour the Galaxy and I also look for some nice stuff on the exchange. For example I noticed that some medical rare or very rare modules are posted for much less than they are worth and usually bought for. I keep now my account at aroun 8mln and I have a rare mk xiii triage to sell when I drop below 3mln :) Just keep an eye on such deals.

I had hoped to make it to this, but due to the time difference and work commitments as such, i wont be able to attend this.

Is it possible to convey messages to someone to speak on our behalf as something what i would have wanted to say at this summit?

Bah, everyone knows the only valid religion is the dark side of the force! I'm not going to get too worked up about it. As she was in jail William Smith Jr. and James Yates were issued their marriage license. So yay!
