Event - Q's Quest

"The time has come" said Q. "To talk of many things. Of shoes, and shippies, and combat rations, of gagh and captains. And why space is freezing cold, and whether targs have wings?"

Q is searching for something, something special, something from you.

You’d think being omnipotent he’d have found it already ...

But where would be the fun in that?

Con permiso, Captain. The hall is rented, the orchestra engaged. Now, it will be time to see if you can dance.

Q will reveal more... Three Challenges with Three Tasks. On Three Wednesdays.

- Stonewall Fleet Starbase. Immediate Vicinity -

“What is this?”

“What’s happening?”

“There’s a transmission coming through, it’s somewhat distorted.”

“Well, put them through.”

“I think it’s just an automated message.”

“Fascinating! …just play the transmission.”

“This is a- -mergen—transmit----n. Stonewall F---- Sta-ba-e is under ----ck by the --F. Repeat: Th-- is an emergency tra—missi--. Stonewall Fleet ----base is un-er ----ck by the K--. All civilian vess--s --d freig----s are to ev---ate S----wall ---ce”

“I… I can’t understand it.”

“Damn it man, try and clear it up.”

“It’s just an automated message, we-“

“It’s on emergency frequencies. We can’t ignore it.”

“I’ve done what I can; I don’t think the interference’s anything natural.”

“It’s probably being distorted from the source.”

“What makes you say that Maknae?”

“It just had that tone to it.”

“Do we turn around or keep going?”

“Full stop.”

“Aye love. Dropping anchor.”

“Maknae, can you come to the bridge?”

“Yeah, I’ll be right up.”

“Hey, Capt, do ya’ think it’a great idea to jus’ stop like this?”

“I genuinely have no opinion on that.”

“Capt…”

“There’s really nothing for us to use to form an opinion.” The bridge doors opened to reveal a slender and pale young man with double lidded, almond shaped, emerald eyes, which hid under his long and shaggy coal-black hair. He walked slowly towards the communications console, where Hank sat. “Have you been able to compile a full message?”

“Uhh… no?” Hank responded looking at the slim boy’s face with a dumbfounded one of his own. “How the Hell can an’one clean this garb’ge up?”

“Well… It’s like a puzzle. Take the clear words and put them into place, use the computer to extrapolate them and compile them into proper format. The breaks within the transmissions aren’t a perfectly repeating pattern, so we should be able to get all the words.”

“Oh I wish I had thought of that!” An older woman called out from the navigators console with a crackling laughter. “Leave it to my lil’ Maknae to be so cleaver.”

“Noona, please stop embarrassing me…”

“…Never.”

“Please?”

“Sonja…”

“…”

“…Never.” She suddenly broke out laughing hysterically again. The Slim boy could only laugh along.

“There. Right darn there! I Got’cha! HAHA!!”

“I take it you succeeded Hank?”

“Hell yeah Capt!”

“…Then would you kindly replay the damn message!?”

“Oh-AH-Dur… YEAH!” Hank confusingly tapped on the console until his dimwitted self finally found a way to replay the completed message.

“This is an emergency transmission. Stonewall Fleet Starbase is under attack by the KDF. Repeat: This is an emergency transmission. Stonewall Fleet Starbase is under attack by the KDF. All civilian vessels and freighters are to evacuate Stonewall Space…” The transmission continued to play on a loop.

“Well… Shit.”

“Geneviève, don’t swear on my bridge.”

“Sorry Capt.” Vive spoke as she lowered her head and tucked her frizzy red hair behind her ears before returning to the piloting controls.

“This ain’t good Capt.”

“No Shit.”

“Tai’Luc!” Vive called out with a pout.

“Sorry love.” The Captain hung his head low as he got scolded by his wife.

“Uh… Weren’t we deliverin’ cargo to that there Stonewall?” Hank asked.

“Yes, Medical supplies mostly.” The Old woman spoke with a silent undertone that everyone had gotten accustomed to picking up on.

“Noona…”

“They’ll be needing it now.”

“Grandma…”

“I’ve been dying to use the phasers again.”

“Jeong Eun!”

“Oh you punks never let me have fun. You’re supposed to respect your elders!”

“Noona… We can’t just go rushing into a warzone.” The young boy spoke softly, only to have Jeong Eun turn her head slowly and stare at him with her piercing deep hazel eyes.

“Says who?” She asked in a frighteningly calm tone of voice.

“Every piece o’ common sense an’ not ta mention the offici’l transmission f’om a Starfleet command center.” Hank responded while everyone else slowly sunk behind a console for shelter. Out of nowhere a boot flew across the bridge and bashed Hank on the right side of his head. He didn’t even react, but as the slim boy reached out to make sure he was alright, Hank just hunched forward and fell upon his console, his face breaking the impact.

“Tai’Luc! Take us into warp and let’s go help Stonewall!”

“The old lady has a Death wish.” The Captain spoke to the side to his wife.

“What did you say!?”

“Nothing Grandma!”

“Tai’Luc, you know she’ll outlive us all.” Vive laughed to herself.

“The spiteful ones always do. Fine… Besides, I don’t have much love for the Klingons myself. Vive, max warp to Stonewall.”

“I told you before, max warp will tear our freighter apart.”

“Vive… My love, my life, my stars… you’re killing me.”

“Captain, We can do warp 6. We’ll reach Stonewall Space within two hours.”

“Good Maknae. Take over Navigation. Jeong Eun, go ahead and take tactical.”

“HAAAHAAAAAA I’ve already loaded the torpedoes!!”

“Noona… you’re quite frightening sometimes…”

“Sonja… When you reach my age you’ll see that you must do whatever makes you happy. You get to cut through all the other crap.”

“The old lady loves blowing things up.” A second boot suddenly flew from the front of the bridge and smashed into the forehead of the captain, causing him to lurch backwards and grasp his face. Hank burst out laughing and because of that, a third boot was flung through the air and hit him in the same exact spot once more.

“The Hell!? How many boots does the old woman have!?” Hank cried out as he cringed in annoyance.

“…Sorry, that one was mine.”

“Maknae!?!?”

“Aaaahahaha, I’ve taught my sonja well. Warp 6 Geneviève! We need to get my old heart pumping, Haaahahahaha!!!!”

“Maybe we should have had Jun-Cho Eun take tactical my love.”

“Vive… We both know that Grandma would pick that boy up from tactical and toss him across the bridge like a ragdoll.”

“True… that reminds me, Jun-Cho, did you like the one I gave you?”

“The antique? Yes, I placed it on my bed as you recommended.”

“Humans and bed decor… I’ll never understand it.” Tai’Luc spoke as he massaged his nose to sooth away the pain from the boot which had hit him.

“Capt… You married a human.” Hank spoke with a pseudo-stuck-up attitude.

“If you are having second taughts my love, I have a phaser right here.” Vive said as she gently tapped on her hip holster, which housed her old type II phaser.

“Of course not Vive, my love, my life… But you’re humor still escapes me.” The Captain’s glance swapped back and forth from his wife’s face to her phaser.

“Jeong Eun gets me.” His wife spoke as she tossed more of her hair behind her ears.

“You might want to reassess that Vive.”

“Ya’ll talk too much.” Hank finally cut in just before an alarm began to blare.

“Captain, there’s ship coming up to our starboard. They’re matching our speed!”

“Maknae, what kind of ship?”

“It’s a… It’s gone!”

“They cloaked?”

“I believe so.”

“I can find them! Hehehe!”

“Grandma! Do. Not. Touch. Your. Console.”

“…Fine.”

“I think we were just scanned Tai’Luc.”

“They likely got a full registry of our cargo.”

“Oh, it’s not weaponry, so they shouldn’t be interested.”

“We might be in trouble.”

“I don’t think they’re pirates.”

“No, but they got our trajectory.” Jun-Cho spoke, and then turned his head slightly to look at his crewmates, all of whom gave off a hushed ‘shit’ under their breaths. A low boom echoed throughout the freighter, which concurrently shook violently, causing everyone to grip tightly to their consoles to prevent being strewn across the bridge.

“Luc, We’ve fallen out of warp!”

“Damn it! Whoever they are fire at them!”

“They are still cloaked Vive!”

“Haaahahaha, that’s hasn’t stopped me before!”

“Noonaaaa…”

“Haahahaha firing at will!” Jeong Eun smiled as she played on the tactical console gleefully. The freighter suddenly began to fire phasers in arcing succession of degrees. One beam found the hidden hull of the bird of prey. As though having foretold this, Jeong Eun let loose a volley of torpedoes which sprayed the Klingon ship, making it dead in the water.

“Noona…”

“Hush up sonja! One more volley and they’re finished!”

“Noona!”

“Grandma!”

“Unni!”

“Hag!” Hank was suddenly struck by another work boot which caused him to topple over and fall from his console.

“You kids always spoil my fun.”

“Deities woman! You’re supposed to be our resident doctor! Not our gunwoman!”

“Ack, that’s no fun. I’m old enough to branch off into other fields.”

“Unni, I don’t think…”

“Hush child! And shouldn’t you be getting us back into warp? Where’s my boot!?”

“Prophets, she’s more frightening than the Klingons!”

“She keeps us on our toes.”

“She keeps us close to Death.”

“SHE can hear every word you’re saying. 아이고… 이러한 젊은 사람들이 더 많은 존경을 표시 하는 법을 배워야 더 때려서 얻을 필요로 하고 있습니다!”

^(UGH, these young people need to get smacked so as to learn to show some more respect!”)

“Look, we didn’t take any damage. We got lucky. It’s not too late to turn around Luc.”

“No Vive, I think it might be. We’ve got a tail.”

“He’s right; scans are picking up three ships.”

“Oh… ahh… Noona here might have made a little mistake.”

“What happened Grandma?”

“We might already be out of torpedoes…”

“Noona!!”

“Hahaha, I thought I had gotten past the spray and pray tactic a long time ago.”

“Unni…”

“It’s okay phasers are still working.”

“We have them cannons-“

“SHUDDAP!”

“Ho… hohohoho… HOHOHOHOHO… We finally got the cannons…?”

“Noona…”

“I am so sorry ya’ll. I guess aft’r that last ‘counter wit’ Orions, Capt finally ponied up and got mo’ weaponry.”

“I would have gone for better engines.” Vive cut in.

“I would have gone for shields.” Jun-Cho responded.

“I would have gone for earplugs.” Jeong Eun retorted.

“Noona!” Jun-Cho Eun spoke loudly.

“Sonja, you don’t get to scold your elders.”

“Noona…” The slim boy could only shake his head softly in response to her wild nature.

“Aren’t we still being chased?” Tai’Luc asked.

“Yes.” Vive responded.

“How much longer until we reach Stonewall.”

“About an hour.” Jun-Cho calculated from his console.

“Hahaha we might not make it!” Jeong Eun continued to laugh in the face of danger.

“Noona… Honestly, You’re enjoying this far too much.”

“Sorry sonja, it takes me back to my military days.”

“We’ve heard the stories.”

“Noona, that’s still no excuse…”

The freighter continued to push forward, being followed by three birds of prey that, for some reason or another, followed closely and yet did not even attempt to attack the outdated cargo vessel. The distance to their destination was not long, but knowing what was waiting for them and purposely choosing to go there was giving the feeling that time had come to a halt. The crewmembers of the old federation freighter, the ‘Maiden Sari’, were a strange group. A Bajoran Captain, Tai’Luc, along with his human wife, Geneviève. Hank, who has vowed to stay with them after they had saved his life. Old Mangjeol Jeong Eun and her adopted grandson, Mangjeol Jun-Cho Eun whom have, for untold reasons, come to be on the rickety cargo ship. Though with their medical and scientific abilities, they were a very welcome addition to the crew.

-Stonewall Fleet Starbase Space; Aboard the Pallas Helena. -

“Mon Dieu! STOP FIRING AT OUR HULL YOU DAMNED RIDGEHEADS! FIRE BACK RIC!” Marietta was going insane jumping left and right across the bridge’s viewscreen, cursing and throwing her arms up and flailing them about in anger as she witnessed each hit to the drydocks.

“I can’t! We’re still within drydock! The phasers could hit the walls!” Ric responded while trying to aim, target and retarget the Odyssey’s phasers.

“DIEUS, JUST DO SOMETHING! WE’RE EXPOSED!” Marietta retorted in a completely upset-rage-fueled tantrum. She somehow got her hands on a giant wrench used on hull bolts.

“Marietta, just control the defensive turrets remotely!” Cherrosk spoke before the woman could assault her tactical console with said wrench.

“…” Marietta suddenly froze in mid-swing.

“Oh Deities…” Ric whispered as he starred at Marietta wide-eyed.

“COME ON YOU KLINGON BASTARDS!!” She suddenly screamed a warcry as her fingers blurred across the consoles. Instantly the attack pattern of half of the defensive turrets around their drydock intensified.

“She got remote control quick!” Cherrosk spoke, somehow astonished.

“She basically has it on speed dial. Cherrosk, send out the worker bees. Patch up what you can, then we launch!” Talons spoke through the com from the starbase as he walked through the halls hastily.

“Roger that, Talons!” The Chief Engineer sent out the order and within moments the mustard colored worker bees launched from various small hanger doors on both the port and starboard sides. They quickly began to work on the damages to the primary and secondary hulls as Marietta did an amazing job at delivering an adamant offensive-style defensive shielding of them.

“Captain, we just need you on the bridge!”

“I’ll be beaming onboard shortly. Prepare the ship as best as possible, whatever condition she’s in we’ll be launching.”

“Copy that Captain, We’ve got the Pallas Helena prepping as we speak.” Hal spoke as he configured the piloting console in anticipation.

“And Marietta has taken over some of the defense turrets.” Jacob cut in while never ceasing to be amazed by the woman’s aptitude for weaponry.

“That explains the increase in their effectiveness. Ric, take from Marietta’s lead and tap into some of the defensive turrets too. Focus on defending the remaining ships in dry dock. Give them cover until they launch.”

“Understood Captain. Marietta, let’s see who can take out the most birds of prey!” Ric shouted across the bridge.

“You’ll have to catch up mon amour! I’ve already disabled four of them. And three more just blew up!”

“Deities, woman! You also got control of the torpedo platforms!?”

“…Is that a serious question Ric?” Marietta paused for a moment and cocked her head backwards towards her right side to stare at him blankly. Her fingers continued to glide across the console however, never ceasing to move.

An alarm began to sound on the bridge; Cherrosk brought it up on his screen and was entirely confused. Emergency forcefields had suddenly activated in a hull breach on the midlevel decks. They followed a straightforward pattern, not one caused by weapon fire. Confused he tried to bring up the security-view cameras for that specific hallway. Stunned by the sight of imploded bulkheads, Cherrosk was speechless and bewildered. He jumped views from camera to camera, following the path from the start. However the feed cut from the cameras closest to the anomaly. Unable to do anything else, he attempted to quarantine whatever it was, sealing the doors and emergency shutters, even initiating the containment forcefields. It seemed to work, as the implosions ceased to continue. With that problem solved, at least temporarily, he placed a mental bookmark into it and returned to overseeing the workbees repair efforts.

-------

-Odyssey’s Lower Decks, Near Hanger Bay 3.-

As the containment shutters came slamming down and forcefields went up, a mechanical wing did a sharp thrust in towards the bulkhead itself. The sheer force echoed throughout the enclosed space, as the wing was unable to penetrate the alloy composition. It retracted back behind the shoulder blade of its’ owner, who’s hazy purple eyes narrowed in thought. A pale hand reached to the side and griped the soft green shoulder of the weakened Orion, who was practically limping at this point, and looked ready to slip into a coma: ready to collapse hours ago.

The pale hand griped harshly and with unsubtle force threw the Orion against the bulkhead. The wing once again had thrust as a fencing saber, stabbing the wall directly next to the Orion’s head, a mere two inches away. “We… are far too close.” Those hazel eyes darkened and pierced into the Orion’s own, which then dropped glance and stared at the floor. “I…”

“You’re a horrible Borg.” The Orion coughed out, some blood escaping with his jagged breath. “Just assimilate it…”

In response the wing flicked to the side and slapped the Orion on his already bruised cheek. “Do not speak.”

“…”

“Better. Stare all you like. Once my drones come for me, Stonewall will be assimilated. Drawn into the collective. Perfected.” The pale hand gripped the Orion’s chin, gently for the first time, and lifted it so that their eyes met. “So will the KDF foolish enough to attack now. They’ve only made my plan easier.”

“You now have two enemies to fight.” The Orion spit blood onto the beautiful face of the Borg Prince.

Unflinching, and not bothering to wipe the Orion’s blood away from his cheek, Da’Lexian gently patted the Orion’s face, soothingly, intimidatingly. “My drones were already prepared to wipe out Stonewall and take all it has to offer. We were then going to take Sarleena’s fleet… You’ve done me a big favor, bringing your half-sister here. I can kill two birds with one stone.”

“You…”

“Know everything? Yes Valla. I probed your mind remember? You collapsed so meekly onto the lab floor.”

“So intelligent, yet you’re trapped here like a targ.”

“This location shall accommodate my needs.”

“Stuck up Borg-“

“You, however, have served your purpose.” Da’Lexian suddenly gripped Valla Arin’s throat and lifted him with just the strength of his one arm. Valla gripped it in response and began to fight back, however futile it was. “Haha… Resistance is truly futile. Embrace Death, It’s a Beautiful Truth. Life is such a Hideous Lie… Just… let… go…”

Valla stared fearfully into Da’Lexian’s eyes as they suddenly shifted color from that ghastly purple to a soft hued blue. The grip around his neck was suddenly unleashed and he was dropped onto the hard flooring of the hall. As he fell down, so did Da’Lexian who gripped his own head and screamed vehemently. He trashed on the floor, causing dents on the alloy as Valla backed away as much as possible against the wall. The screams continued for a mere moment until Da’Lexian sat up on his knees, the mechanical wings outspread as far as possible, his head tilted back and his mouth gapped open and he shouted a named so loudly that the alloy screeched in resonance, Valla was forced to cover his ears. The name, was ‘Kenneth’…

The battle continued to rage on, however in the distance a soft-glowing yet sickeningly green light could be seen coming closer…

Making Money in STO

September 07 2015
How I made my Billions

Honestly, the biggest thing I did was always check my ship gear on the exchange before selling it. The market, like all markets, are erratic and based on emotion. I sold three MK VI tetryon beams last night for 100k each. Insanity! But that's what they were going for on the exchange. So always check the 'value' of a ship item on the exchange before selling it to an NPC.

Also, as mentioned before, the lazy player is your best friend. All consumables, from the small hypo, to the ship auxiliary battery, I save in my inventory, and when I get 20, I sell on the exchange, full value.

My biggest tip, but it takes long term commitment, is selling lock boxes two cycles past their drop. So all of my year of hell lock boxes go to my mules, to be sat upon. Here is an example
January - Lock Box A is released, horde and sit upon them
March - Lock Box B comes out, horde and sit upon them
June - Lock Box C comes out, horde these, but begin selling Lock Box A (but not all of them, only half of the lock boxes each cycle).

I still have a horde of Tal Shiar lockboxes that I sell for wicked amounts of money. This strategy only failed me twice, when a lock box was released and no one was ever excited for it ever again. Also, if you think you wont play this game longer than a year, then this strategy is moot.

Making Money in STO

September 07 2015
When it comes down to it, there are 2 ways to make money (ec) in STO:

1) Spend real money (buy Zen with cash, then buy keys/doff packs/fleet ship modules and sell them on the exchange)

2) Grind

The reason most people aren't rich on STO is because they would rather play than sell stuff (I actually enjoy messing with the market, which is why I'm generally loaded, but I know that's not for everyone ;) )

That said, there are some things you can do that don't take an absurd amount of time that can turn a healthy profit (or at least healthy enough for you to be able to get some pretty things every once in awhile)

The suggestion about colonization Doffs is a good one, in general, breaking down purple Doffs in to their components can net you a solid amount of cash, though using the colonization Doffs can be time consuming if you don't have Doffs that are good at criting those missions. So the lesson here is, any purple Doff will do (and breaking down blue ones isn't a losing proposition either). So here are some ways to get some blue/purple Doffs pretty easily:

1) Caitain Field Flight Training Doff Chain: This one will show up once a day after you've finished the chain and will award a Doff upon completion of the repeatable mission. The result is usually blue, and sometimes purple. A blue Doff breaks down into 9 white Doffs, which is roughly 250,000 ec when you sell them on the exchange.

2) Fleet Starbase: The personnel officer will sell you a random purple Doff for 25,000 fleet credits (it's a bit steep, but if you're rolling in fleet credits and want to change them to ec, this is an option). Do make sure to check the Doff itself on the exchange before you break it down, sometimes you'll get really good ones worth between 5-10 million ec, so breaking it down to sell whites to get 800-900k is kind of a losing proposition.

3) Buying them off the exchange. I know, this seems counter intuitive, but if you buy a crappy Doff, like a Warp Theorist or a Flight Deck Officer for 300-400k and then break it down and sell the pieces for 800-900k, that's generally worth the effort.

Something to note while breaking down Doffs... pay attention to what is valuable. For me, there's not many that are worth worrying about, because the margin of error is low (i.e. a green trader is worth 100k, but the 3 whites will be worth between 60-100k, so it's not worth worrying about). But there are a few that are definitely worth paying attention to: Blue (and green) technicians, the blues generally go for 1-3 million a piece; Blue damage control engineers, around 750k; Blue Research Lab Scientists, 500k; Blue Fabrication Engineers, 350k.

Another unfortunate reality of STO's economy is that it works like any other capitalist economy, the more money you have, the easier it is to make more. There are some ventures that are high risk/high reward in small quantities, namely opening doff and weapon packs, and to a smaller extent lockboxes, that flatten out in larger quantities. If I spend 5 million ec on Doff packs and open them up and sell the contents, I will probably lose some money, but if I spend 100 million ec and do the same thing, I will probably make 10-15 million more than my original investment off the deal (and upwards of 200 if I get lucky).

It's all about prioritizing what you want to spend your time doing, and for most people, that's playing the game, which is a great choice. In those cases, selling drops helps, and playing the elites so you can sell salvaged tech is a sustainable way to make sure you have enough money to function. If you want to buy the big stuff, and don't want to spend real cash, try setting aside a little bit of time each time you play to work on getting money. Breaking down a purple Doff and listing it all on the exchange will only take like 10 minutes, so if you do that each couple of days, you'll end up ok.

A couple other random tips:

1) Make sure you clear out your exchange notifications from your mail. I used to sell so much stuff that when the mail server broke on the launch of New Romulus, it completely crashed by game because I couldn't go delete my messages (I finally created an account on another PWE game just so I could log in and clear my mail).

2) Don't spend too much time pricing out the white doffs, it will make your life miserable if you try to look up each doff individually. Establish a baseline and sell all doffs of that type for the same price (i.e. look up a random tactical doff, and then use that as your price for all tac doffs, be it energy weapons officer or projectile weapons officer).

Happy money making!

A big Thank You to all who submitted your Mirror Bios to this small contest.
We had a rather hard time deciding who should receive the 1st and 2nd prize, names kept changing we had to re-read etc etc.
All of the entrys were great, and really gave your character some depth and a great back story.

We were amuzed by some of them, Cais Fresh Prince of Bel air approach .. and Raynes prostitute ring.

We were captivated with the Drama of Whiteonmyoj, SiranNataan's & wintercrows bios, they were an amazing read and contained a fantastic imagination of darkness.

I loved the polar opposites to the submitters who also had a biography in the normal bio posts, that was fun to read each.

You are all winners for giving us great fiction and sharing your imagination with the fleet. and again, I thank you for that.

But in the end we had to choose what we personally enjoyed...

and here are the results...
-------------------------------------

2nd place awarded to - @knightchucky
Really liked how knightchucky wrote how he obtained his ship, that back story of how he managed to captain it.. brought that over into his toon on the day of the Reflection Event, as he flew that same ship. So with his bio, and his in game ship set up.. his toon was fully emerged in the mirror universe.

1st place Mirror Bio Winner - @Akrilon
A truly knock out submission, well written and completely intoxicating to read, his take on a Trill symbiont being forced upon him in a sort of mind altering way by the Emperor ... well.. please go read it if you havent yet. Truly amazing, and I personally wanted more!!!!

Congrats to you all, for giving us great reads!

------------------------------------

Hopefully you all wont end here, as this part of the forums THE HOLODECK is a place where you can submit your stories, adventures, your normal Bios, your imagniation can be shared here, for others like me to enjoy and be inspired by.
PLEASE keep sharing, and know that others will get enjoyment from it.

I'll reopen this thread for continuation (without being a contest) and encourage others to still post their mirror bios for all to see!

I'm guilty of spending EC on something I can get nearly for free like Robin mentioned.

Yeah, well, so am I.

Make a Ferengi character, they get commodities at discount prices. Learn where to get cheap commodities, which vendor sells what. Many players, myself included, won't really bother to travel across the Galaxy, from system to system, to get them at the cheapest possible price, when they can be all bought at the exchange. I will spend more to save time. Check the prices, see what sells and what doesn't, making 100k profit on a single stack of commodities is not that extraordinary (actually, I don't put anything on exchange if I can't make 100k profit on that for that exact reason: I can use the slot more profitably. If it doesn't make me 100k, then it goes straight to vendor or fleet bank).

Well thanks, too late for me. I am staying out of chat from now on and will participate less in the fleet. I have often felt ignored in the chat because when i say something or ask a question i just get dead air. If someone had of taken the extra energy to type in what you just did I would have been able to participate. However the lack of caring what people are asking in the chat is apparent and causes such misunderstandings. Popularity factor 0 equals being ignored regardless of the relevance to the game. Popularity factor 10 talks about passing gas and everyone is all over it. I stopped playing the popularity game when I was in high school. From now on I am a ghost until I find a better place to haunt.

I respectfully disagree with that assessment. Mainly because I don't see how such a popularity structure can develop in a group with such high turnover. I went away for a month on vacation and I come back to half a new fleet (including you!) and in a few months lots of people we see all the time will be around less and other people will be around. It's hard to have a popularity hierarchy when the vast majority of people barely know each other's names.

Also, when I first came on-board last year, people would talk to me in chat if I made a joke or something and I knew no one. I still don't know people that well since I'm the worst Team Speak user in the fleet, and I still feel like people listen when they're around. On the other hand, I'm a fleet captain now and I can write things into the ether of fleet chat that get completely ignored, like even this past weekend.

Last, during an event it's hard to follow what's going on in chat. For example, I was setting up Mine Trap (a 20-person queue) yesterday and, in order to fill it, I had to announce in multiple channels (we just don't have enough fleeties interested in it to fill it). Voleron@akrilon wanted to join and I couldn't get him in by right-clicking his name, and I was switching between 4 tabs and checking out the 6 channels I was announcing in while trying to get the players already in the queue organized so that we wouldn't completely fail... while some of those players were yelling at me in chat to start the queue already even though we didn't have full teams yet.

So, in the mayhem, I forgot about the quotation marks trick that can get around the invite bug. I apologized to Voleron later, but the point of this story is that someone with a popularity factor of infinity like Voleron can still get lost in the mess of in-game chat, and that organizing stuff is hard (and uncompensated) work so maybe we can be gentler with those folks who are trying to put something together.

About questions outside of events: I answer a lot of questions when I'm online if I'm looking at fleet chat (I minimize the chat window when I'm in episode content and sometimes I'm chatting in other channels). My guess is that dead air just means that no one who saw your question knows the answer, and everyone's waiting for someone else to give the answer instead of saying they don't know.

I'm guilty of spending EC on something I can get nearly for free like Robin mentioned. If I'm at Risa or wherever and need to change a boff power, then spending 100k on something I could get for almost nothing seems like a better idea that loading up the 3 maps it takes to get all the way to ESD to the boff trainer.

So there's an idea: sell cheap things to lazy players!

You can also get Gamma quadrant commodities cheaper in stacks of a hundred and resell them more expensive per unit in stacks of ten. I did that one way back in the day. You can look around and maybe find other items to do that to.

Another idea is to finish the colonization sequences and start getting those free purple doffs. You can't sell them, but you can break them down into white doffs at the academies or on New Romulus and sell those. 1 purple doff makes 27 white doffs, which would get you around 800,000 ec each time you crit that assignment.

Or you can just break down blue doffs from the exchange and sell the white ones.

And here's another obvious thing to do (though to do it efficiently, you would need several toons to overcome the daily dilithium refinement limits) - make keys.

At current prices buying 625 contraband costs 27.5 million EC.
Through Turn in Contraband mission that can be transfereed to 250 thousand dilithium.
At current market rate that would buy you 1126 zen, just enough to buy 10 keys (even without waiting for the key sale, which happens several times a year).
10 keys sell for 37 million EC.

That's 10 million profit. The bottleneck of course is the daily dilithium refinement limit, but even with just one character that's still something you can do once a month.

[EVENT] Reflection Day

Thank you for the fun day, there was sure a lot of work put into this and that showed.

And despite dancing on tables with shirtless Romulans, getting drunk at DS9 and not being able to join pretty much anything (due being under lvl 50)... I managed to level up from 40 to 50 on Reflection day.

Thank you Gareth, Imperial Command, Fleet.

I wanted to thank everyone who participated, I had loads of fun. The event was a huge success and I was happy to see so many fleeties joining in on the fun. I especially want to thank Gareth for organizing today's event. I know he put in a lot of personal time to make sure the event was a great experience for everyone. Bravo sir!

Just a quick note to say congrats to Gareth on running his first full-day fleet event and thanks for all the work that was put into it by G, the fab resources department and everyone else who made it possible.

The theme was a very cool idea and it was neat that everyone got on-board to change their signatures, the fleet logo and the site graphics to give it that extra feeling of immersion. Top notch fun!

Cheers all!

As someone who's worked closely with the leadership team for years, I can whole-heartedly say that you were not intentionally shut out of todays events. They always do their absolute best to ensure that everyone willing gets to participate, but they are not able to catch every instance.

It is unfortunate that you are feeling ignored, especially in this community where I find them to be a friendly bunch overall! Could it be possible that maybe they missed your messages in chat? If it's a question people don't usually respond if they are unsure of the answer. I've said stuff in chat, even whilst holding a leadership position, that have gone unanswered. I don't believe it has anything to do with popularity. (And honestly if someone believes themselves to be better than another in this fleet, then they can kindly sit in my ignore list.) It is more than likely that they were simply busy, albeit smashing the spacebar, paying attention to the chatter on TS, alt-tabbed, or having steamy chat conversations. (Oh, all of you do it, don't lie! :P )

Gareth has also offered to personally see to it that you are involved in the next events, and has tried to reach out to you today on multiple occasions, which I think says a lot.

I truly hope that you will reconsider your position and join us for future events. It can be a lot of fun and we need every member we can possibly get!

Best wishes,
~Andrew

Well thanks, too late for me. I am staying out of chat from now on and will participate less in the fleet. I have often felt ignored in the chat because when i say something or ask a question i just get dead air. If someone had of taken the extra energy to type in what you just did I would have been able to participate. However the lack of caring what people are asking in the chat is apparent and causes such misunderstandings. Popularity factor 0 equals being ignored regardless of the relevance to the game. I'm sorry to hear about what has transpired with your evening pinkscarab, I'm sure that with what you have noted would be taken into consideration for future event that happen in game and a clearer in-game conversation on what is required with certain PVE queue's is made clear when asked on to chat.

I must say, the feeling of being ignored is terrible to hear happen with you at this moment of time. With respect to Gareth, I'm sure that when future events come up that this kind of mishap won't happen again. But I ask if you could try to make further attempts with any new events to come, it would be disappointing to know you that you don't feel included with events.

Can I highlight in your other thread I responded within two minutes and got no response... we do our very hardest to make sure everyone is included. When running large scale event's it can be very time intensive for the organisers and there are a lot of things going on. Fleet chat can sometimes be overwhelmed with incoming communications and filtering through general chit chat and genuine calls for help can be difficult.

No one chooses to ignore you and if we had noticed the confused shout out we would have gladly given you a more detailed explanation of what we meant.

Had you stayed you would have possibly missed the large man teams but would have been included in the smaller gatherings, or you might have gotten into the larger ones once realising what we were doing.

Taking yourself away from chat and participating less within the fleet is your choice, but this is a very involved fleet and we do try, and succeed very well, at including everyone where we can.

General tips for the future, if in doubt, send a /tell to someone and they should be able to hear that notification and respond better than paying attention to fleet chat.

Any one of the leadership will be happy to assist when they are online, if you don't know who they are, this page should help!
