What type of STO player are you?

I'm none of those types. I am the storyteller--I focus a lot on character creation, and I imagine often complex narratives regarding my ships, crews, and uniforms. It's why I've got 21 toons.

That's for this game, though, where the opportunity to create "pets" as well as toons allows for much greater storytelling. I've been playing GW2 a lot lately, and it's very much about exploration, which I've discovered I really enjoy. And I think part of my initial disappointment with STO is that, with a franchise that is built on the idea of exploration, we didn't really have any. The early star-cluster explorations, with their janky first-contact set-up, were as close as we got, and once they got rid of those, we weren't really exploring anymore. Hopefully Season 11 is what it's cracked up to be and we get some genuine exploring (that's not railroaded).

The Bartle archetypes are at best qualitative descriptors, which doesn't mean they don't have value - only that value has decided limits. They kind of apply some sort of meaning to what it means to be an 'Achiever' or a 'Killer' in how a player participates in a game. But they're built into the definitions that Bartle chose to apply, and the questions he asks.

Ultimately, it offers a framework for the kinds of rewards that mediate how players respond to the game; even if the language itself is intrinsically biased by the framework that supports it.

And game developers may not build around Bartle - but I imagine one would be hard-pressed to spot a dev that isn't at least cognizant of the basic idea.

The point of any theoretical model is to simplify the world in order to understand certain parts better, and they always leave something out (it's their nature). To me, this classification is saying "People come to games for different reasons" and "these reasons are not infinite." It's interesting to me because it provides the beginning of an explanation for why people seem to experience the game in completely different ways.

Whether this particular model is useful for game development isn't all that important to me since I'm not a game developer. Instead, it's more like... a Cosmo quiz for us to share here. :)

I've always found the Bartle archetypes limiting. Like the Myers-Briggs personality tests they're based upon - they offer little in the way of actionable, useful data by virtue of not being designed quantitatively, and being non-normalized.

Basically, it's a Cosmo quiz, but less fun.

That having been said, this is typically me in any MMO:

As time passed my interest in STO has faded. I never really gave it much thought into why until now. I believe myself to be more of an explorer if anything.I love to discover and investigate and find new things. I think because most of it now for me has gotten to be a bit of a daily grind of the same activities I simply get bored with it. Had there been no Stonewall I don't think I would have stuck around the game in truth! I've been on the leadership team much longer than I have been a member so my priority was always on serving our community first and foremost. With no leadership responsibilities there is a lot less to focus on; you have more time to play the game and enjoy it without additional tasks that take up time. But for people like me who get bored easily with the same in-game routine and without said responsibilities it doesn't quite work out so well :p I believe though that the next season will help in capturing some of my interest back because of the exploration aspect! I'm excited to see what they'll bring to us :)

Haven't played it yet, [strike]but I am downloading it at the moment[/strike]. Will buy it in the future though. Those games are worth their money, but Fallout 4 has higher priority with me at the moment :P

Nvm, can't find a torrent that I trust or they have no seeds.

Edit: Ah, that explains it, it hasn't been released for pc yet...

I guess I am both an achiever and an explorer. Sometimes I just try out new thing I didn't get the chance to know before... But I am also an accolade hunter and, believe me, the sound of a new acco popping up is one of the sweetest sounds in STO :D

I'm mostly an achiever and an explorer (although sometimes it can take me years before I start trying to do a certain part of a game, especially when it seems complicated). When it comes to STO though, I'm also quite a lot there to socialise, so I guess socialiser fits me too.

Extra Credits had a couple interesting videos about the types of players in MMORPGs:

The types are: achievers (like to do well at the game in its stated goals), explorers (like to experience new things in games), socializers (there to hang out), and killers (including trolls, people who play the game to show their dominance over others).

From my experience with MMOs (limited as it is), it seems like STO has far fewer killers than other games and somewhat fewer achievers, and more explorers (I would include casual players who just want to try everything once here) and socializers than other games.

I'm probably more of an achiever. What about you guys?

We need to find out some availability on when to go after our guild hall now that the expansion has launched. The majority vote online at the time was for the Gilded Hallow, so we will be going after that. However we need some heads, lets hear from you guys about when you want to do it. And we will see what we can do.

I didn't include Halloween since its well Halloween. please post times you think you might be available too and we will see what the widest margin is for setting up an event.

We are still recruiting people, in fact we have been making an effort to get more people online of late.
While we have republic and imperial fleets we seem to be leaning towards imperial side.

well for anyone looking to recruit me, i can give you my characters names to whisper me if i'm online (i'll be on one of them, and i can easily switch to my others to get them all added once you get ahold of me)

Imperial:

Zashela (sith inquisitor)
Ansheba (sith warrior)
Isma-an (imperial agent)

Republic:

Chati'tha (Trooper)
Ailacin (Smuggler)
Nel'nalmi (Jedi Consular)

oh and also, i tend to log on in the late afternoon and evening hours eastern time, so thats the best time to get ahold of me
