The Naked Time - Part 3 - Lightspeed

July 02 2016
Episode "Wink of an Eye", TOS

This is one of my favorite episodes in old Trek. In german the title of the episode is "Was summt denn da?", which means what is there humming? I like this title a lot, as it indicates that every time you hear something humming around (like a mosquito) it could be a visitor from another timeframe. So think twice before killing your next mosquito!

Now I learn that time itself isn't as fixed as we thought it was. If you change the spin of a photon the photon itself changes its speed! So Kirks slow travelling phaserbeam is a probability we have to think of when we start building the ship that gets us out of here. Have a look (and be prepared, because Einstein was not right):

The speed of light is not constant

If you want to read on, here's the rest of the naked time series:
The Naked Time - Introduction
The Naked Time - Part 1 - Magnetism
The Naked Time - Part 2 - Gravitation
The Naked Time - Part 4 - Time

Anyone notice the GW2 Twitter logo?

July 02 2016
I haven't had regular access to Twitter (major wifi woes), but was pleasantly surprised to go there now and see that they converted the logo to a Pride rainbow. Don't know if it's for Pride or Orlando or both, but I'm most impressed.

[Processed] there [GW2]

July 02 2016
Hey there

I'm returning to playing GW2 (karpos.2316 ) after taking a (very long) break, and getting back into it after so long has been a bit lonely, and confusing! So...here I am.

I'm a gay guy from South Africa, living in Brighton UK. I'm a post-grad student in sociology, and I totally count this as study time (ahem).

I mainly play PvE, but enjoyed WvW the last time I played.

Aside from GW2 I tweet way too much and travel when I can. I'm a fan of veggie food, fantasy literature, tattoos, outdoors and dark chocolate.

Looking forward to (hopefully) chatting and playing in-game :)

Transwarp problem?

I just wish the devs would make up their minds whether or not sector blocks are relevant to the game anymore,

But sector blocks aren't really removed from gameplay. You can't really see what they are anymore or where their borders are, but they are there and they are relevant for doff missions for example.

Headset Headache

July 01 2016
I had a lot of problems with my old bluetooth headset. Though I think it might have been a lot of wireless devices from neighbouring flats and general poor quality of the device. I redesigned my whole flat around a complicated system of USB cables so I could have a good wired headset embedded inside my desk - however now it draws so much power from the motherboard it turns a 2 second start up into 5 minutes. That's not helpful is it?

Now that's a good news

He is supportive by the standards of the Catholic church. I wouldn't call him an ally... He is a welcome change though and it is nice to have a religious figurehead who cares about the harm and joy brought to people outside of strict doctrine. Esp considering most Christian doctrine on sex does not stem from God nor Jesus but from a mis-reading of people who mis-heard. Does not Paul condemn men and women acting against their natures and references the animal kingdom in this. This logic combined with modern understanding of sexuality in nature is actually a pro-LGBT message. Not that anyone cares. As my barber says, Haters Gonna Hate.

Star Trek Renegades

July 01 2016
I saw the first episode and to be honest, it has nothing to do with Trek. It was okay, but it could be any generic Sci-fi. I had none of the feel or the messages Trek had. I hate to complain about a fan film but if you're making Trek because it is no longer on TV and you want to fill the hole left by it; this is not what you make. It has more to do with certain actors' current career prospects than the spirit of Trek and what made it unique. The fact they can take the Star Trek out of it and carry on is testament to that. There is nothing in it that screams Star Trek, regardless of its quality.

Transwarp problem?

July 01 2016
I just wish the devs would make up their minds whether or not sector blocks are relevant to the game anymore, because there are still a lot of in-game references to them but no explanation of what or where they are. There's apparently a lot of that sort of thing with content that was removed from gameplay, but was not necessarily removed from the game. It can really be maddening/baffling at times.

Headset Headache

July 01 2016
It's actually a rather brilliant headset tbh. For streaming and the like, I use a Blue Nessie desktop mic, but, for general voice chat, it's pretty good.

It comes with integrated bluetooth connectivity as well as its own USB adapter. I do, but, I use a wired mouse on my PC - unless I'm using Kodi on my PC to watch something on the telly. I might recommend getting a newer model, but, if you're trying to limit how much you're spending on it, it's a solid enough model if you don't have interference.

Transwarp problem?

June 30 2016
Quote by Mstfrancis
If I am remembering this correctly... and I am probably not.
When you are not in a Excelsior you can only transwarp to sector blocks and that is even if you have a transwarp coil. here is a link to an old wiki. The transwarp coil will show you the locations that you can go, but ultimately it is the normal sector blocks.

Thank you I knew there was an explanation.
