Q: Will Star Wars: The Old Republic address the unresolved stories of KOTOR I & II?
A: Yes, Since the plot of KOTOR I was related to Galactic events there will be story elements that effect multiple class stories in The Old Republic Online. The story from KOTOR II however will be addressed mainly in the force sensitive classes stories of The Old Republic Online. This is because KOTOR II's story mainly related to the tearing of the force and Sith factions hunting down the remaining Jedi.
Q: Will classes be able to use equipment meant for another class? Like a Bounty Hunter using a Light Sabre?
A: No, equipment is class specific, you will not see Bounty Hunters running around wielding Light Sabers.
Q: Can I be an Evil Jedi and a Good Sith?
A: Regardless of the faction you choose, your choices will effect your characters path and light/dark side alignment. You can for instance be a “good” Sith but it will be both very difficult and dangerous. You could be an evil Jedi but this would be difficult to get away with. It is important to note that the characters conversation choices with NPCs is not what effects your alignment, ultimately it is your actions that will determine weather you are light or dark.
Q: Will a Jedi be able to use Force Choke or Force Lightning?
A: While there are some Force Powers that span the force using classes, there are specific powers that are signature abilities of a class. For example, Force Choke is a signature ability of the Sith Warrior.
Q: Will the story decisions of the people you are grouped with permanently effect your character as well?
A: Yes, while your responses in multi-player dialog will have an effect on your light/dark side alignment, the overall direction of your groups interactions with NPCs will permanently effect your characters plot. For instance if your party decides to kill an innocent NPC, and you actively select in game conversation options that oppose this decision you will earn light side points but since your group still commits the act while you were involved, you will also be subject to the consequences of that act.
Q: Is Space Combat really just a rail system?
A: It is more of a “Tube”. We wanted to replicate the fast paced action and cinematic experience of the space scenes from the original movies. When we reviewed all the films we could not find any scenes where the characters just set a course for a random location and headed aimlessly in that direction. We also did not find any scenes where the characters mined asteroids for resources for hours on end. When you watch Star Wars films, you see the characters heading to a destination and traveling through Hyper Space to arrive almost instantly, or being intercepted by enemy forces and engaging in action paced ship to ship combat. That is what we wanted to reproduce in The Old Republic Online, and I believe we did that.
