Character Questions
Give a brief background of your character. Please try to keep it to a few sentences.
1. Describe your character’s personality.
Syvok was raised by Vulcan parents on Earth, which resulted in an upbringing heavily influenced by non-Vulcan customs and attitudes. Thanks to this, his Vulcan discipline will give way to the occasional sarcastic remark and he has been known to give the odd back-handed compliment. He follows every command to the best of his ability and will often take the initiative if command personnel are otherwise occupied.
2. Describe your character’s appearance.
Syvok is approx. 6 feet tall, has the usual number of limbs (for Star Trek characters, anyway), pointy ears (obviously), and a hairstyle that, while not the Vulcan norm, is fashionably short.
3. Why did your character join Starfleet?
To boldly go… (oops, lemme try that again)
Syvok wanted to follow in his parents’ footsteps and spend his life studying the universe around him. He was not content with mere academic research, however, so he decided to gain practical experience by confronting the universe on its own terms and getting up close and personal with spatial anomalies and temporal distortions. Starfleet provided the perfect opportunity to do this, and it also allowed for the structured environment/ social structure that Vulcans thrive on.
Role-Playing (RP) Experience Questions
1. Have you done any RP in a real-time chat setting? This includes chat rooms and other online games. If you have, please briefly describe your experiences.
So far, my only experience has been with the few sessions of Stonewall RP which I enjoyed immensely. I prefer to keep things in universe at all times, and stay away from hyperbole and random/off the wall developments that completely change the nature of the encounter. I’m familiar with and try to implement the improv concept of ‘yes, and…’ when new story points are introduced. I think everyone gets the most out of RP (and it’s the most fun) when a predetermined structure is adhered to and a consistent story development is maintained.
2. Have you done any RP in a Star Trek setting? If so, please briefly describe your experiences.
See above.
3. Please describe your familiarity with the universe of Star Trek and Star Trek Online. This would include which shows you’ve watched with some regularity and how knowledge of the game’s story.
I have seen all but a few episodes of TOS, none of TAS (whether this is good or bad is up to you), all of the movies (each multiple times), all of TNG, I’d say about 70% of DS9 (currently re-watching via Netflix) and about 90% of Voyager. I own the technical manuals for both TNG (heavy technical info) and DS9 (great background and illustrations).
As for STO, I’ve played every Federation mission except for the STFs, including the latest Breen mini-arc. I’ve read several of the ‘Path to 2409’ entries on the website, and I’d be happy to read more of them if it will help.
