Re: Need Foundry veteran to answer my silly questions

January 28 2011
PS. And my first question is...

I'm struggling with my first map transition. The player talks to Admiral Marconi on the Cryptic DS9 social map, and then I want them to go to a custom map I've created - i.e. a replica of the Bajor system that I've built from scratch in the Foundry editor.

Ideally, after speaking to Admiral Marconi on the social DS9 map I'd like the player to return to their ship, then return to Beta Ursae Sector space, and access my custom map by flying to the Bajor system in sector space. I know you can use a "door" in sector space to access a custom map, but I can't find a door for the Bajor system.

Not sure how I can get my player to access my custom "Bajor system" map???

Need Foundry veteran to answer my silly questions

January 28 2011
Hey guys.

I've just started using the Foundry (beta) on Tribble. I'm starting to get the hang of it, but there are some things I just can't figure out.

I'm looking for one or more experienced Foundry users to help me out by answering silly "How do I..." questions as they come up. They're likely to be questions that'll make you laugh at me for not figuring out ;o) But shortcuts to the answers would save me from pulling out even more handfuls of my hair!

Please post here or message me if you'd be willing to answer stupid questions for me :o)

Thanks,
Ali

Re: Spore

Yeah, I was pretty upset about how they handled DRM on Spore as well. I bought the game and all it's expansions.... after installing them I began to experience problems with my external USB storage drives.

After purchasing my new PC last year, I decided not to use my original DVD's anymore on the new computer. I didn't want to have the hardware problem's and deal with the crazy licensing issues....

Which is a real shame because it was a really fun game (a bit repetitive in space after a while) but an amazing concept.

Here are some of my creations (and one creation I modified - i.e. the Phoenix from Battle of the Planets).

I actually had tons more than that....

A couple other races I had created (actually they were my first and second attempt):

To bad EA messed it up. After my experience with their DRM, I don't buy any more of their games until well after they are released... and other people have had a chance to "test" it so that I don't deal with any surprises.

I'm really careful about the Sims... Don't buy any of EA's digital copies any more since they have SecuROM. I only get the retail DVD versions which doesn't have it.

I used to play spore like crazy but I got a little upset about that DRM Securom they installed to the kernel so I got rid of it and the DRM.

Here's my Sporepedia if anyone wants to browse. :)

Gosh, looking over all of my old creations, I really miss that game. I made some really awesome things. ^.^

Played 2 battles, have no clue whatsoever, lol.
I have no idea what the credits and gold are for or how to earn them.

With XP you research new parts for your tank. With credits you buy those new parts or new tanks. With gold... Well.. You can use gold for a bunch of different things. There are several "premium" (aka crap if you ask any of the people I've asked) tanks, you can buy "premium" ammo, you can train your tank crews with gold, you can convert gold to credits, you can convert free XP on a tank you've made elite with gold or you can buy a premium account with gold.

You get 150 gold every day at midnight GMT. While you have a premium account, you get 150% credits and XP from every battle. (250 gold for 1 day of premium, 750 for 3 days, 1500 for a week and 2500 for a month.)

Is your in game name the same as your forum name, here?

An oldie... but definitely a game I loved to play.

Almost Master of Orion'ish.... And lots of cool Star Trek elements to the game.

Anyone here a fan of Birth of the Federation (BotF)?

The creature and space are my favourite phases. I try to stay in creature phase as long as possible to unlock every single part i can get!!! :D

I'm not so sure about the upcoming "Dark Spore" game they have planned. My jury is sitll out on if I'll buy that one.

I really like the voice acting by the catfish character; makes you feel much more involved in the mission. I wish they would do more of that in STO (clicking text-only dialogue boxes is so 1999).

There were so many missed opportunities. Every time that 2nd Leah Brahms episode comes on, I still want her to tell Geordi that she has to go answer the call from her wife, rather than her husband. Sigh.

If any of you are interested, check out Star Trek Phase II. It is a web based series that uses the same Star Trek TOS characters (played by different actors), that continues TOS "5 year mission" and tries to complete the extra 2-3 years of that 5 year mission, that were never shown due to the original series being canceled.
The whole series is shot in the actual original series sets, using Paramounts costumes and bridge and other ship interiors from TOS.

A lot of the writers from every incarnation of the show work on Phase II, inlcuding writers from TNG. A lot of original cast members have reprised roles on Phase II as well. Walter Koenig. George Takei. Denise Crosby. etc etc.

One episode originally intended for TNG has been re-written and used for Phase II. It involves Captain Kirk's nephew coming onboard the Enterprise, and he hooks up with a cute male blond crew member. It was an original story plot from TNG that never got aired after Paramount execs disapproved that it had to do with homosexuals.

Here is a link to the Phase II website, and the "gay" episode is "Blood and Fire"

Phase II is shot with Paramounts full permission and support.

Haven't thought about Phase II in a while, and never got to see it. I hear that the filming schedule is very heinous, like they can only get out one or two episodes a year, since it's mostly put together by folks who are doing this as a labour of love outside their everyday lives. Will totally have to check it out. (Oy, I'm really trekking out, I'm working my way through Enterprise and just discovered allstepisodes, so I'm going to be turning into a complete vidiot before long.)

Peace

While there's been plenty of near misses, there's never been any real gay characters or gay romances in Star Trek.
