Actors I'd love to have seen as captains.

February 17 2011
So I was looking at someone's avatar here of Gary Seven in a Starfleet gig and suddenly thought of several other actors I'd love to have seen wearing the captain's colours.

James Garner: Everyone's favourite gunslinger/sheriff/private dick. He would have made a fantastic captain. :D

James Coburn: Our Man Flint!

Lee Marvin: Strong, serious, and when he speaks, people listen. He'd also play a good drunk if the captain had a drinking prublem. xD

Tom Selleck: With the moustache

Burt Reynolds: Tell me that wouldn't be cool. :3 OK maybe as an independent ship captain, like Mudd. :3

Dianna Rigg: Strong, commanding, feminine. Also... Emma Peel! :D

Joanna Lumley: Miss Purdey!

Bruce Campbell: Come on... You can't NOT have him on this list! :)

Anyone else have any actors they'd always wished would have been captains? :)

Why haven't we declared war on it yet? :P

Because Republicans haven't realized yet that it's actually the home of Al Gore's Secret Muslim base and their global warming weapons lab. But give them time, World Nut Daily will figure it out soon enough. I've also heard that Obama's secret FEMA Concentration camps are located there.

The biggest reason we haven’t seen any big planets way ut there?

Planetary cloaking devices.

We will see these planets when we are meant to see them.

Re: What's the story, if any, to your ship names?

February 16 2011
Since the start of the game all my ships have been named the U.S.S Nechayev, after only the most brilliantly terrifying character in the Trek universe.

She's currently in drydock however, while I use the U.S.S. Extremis, named for a version of Iron Man's armour. I'm not a massive fan of the character but I enjoyed the "Ex..." naming convention that reflects the Excelsior-class ship.

Wow; CBS finally pulled the plug on all of the videos from the youtube channel I was using to watch the journey. We will have to begin using a different source :(

So far my ships have been named after important trans people, but I'm expanding it in the future to include queer people of all genders.

So far:

USS Bornstein (Light Cruiser): Named after author and performer Kate Bornstein (author of Gender Outlaw, My Gender Workbook and Hello Cruel World: 101 Alternatives to Suicide for Teens, Freaks, and other Outlaws)

USS Leslie Feinberg (Science Vessel): Named after author and campaigner Leslie Feinberg (author of Transgender Warriors)

USS Susan Stryker (Research Science Vessel): Named after author, activist and performer Susan Stryker (author of Transgender History)

My next ship will be the USS Joan Nestle :)

More likely that it passes through the Oort cloud every 27 million years, blasting a shower of icy rocks towards the rest of the solar system.

Perhaps it was the instigator of the theorised event that destroyed Mars' atmosphere.
