Re: Very quiet since the guild split

January 21 2012
I hope that the officers are selected for each side. Selecting offices who "sometimes" play on one side or the other is not going to work as they will rarely if ever log in and work with the guildies.

At this point here are some interesting numbers about the guild membership in KoS

410 members listed
12+ lvl 1 and 2 toons
50+ folks who have not placed their names in the member note section as we've been asking folks to do for the past 2 weeks.

I did not count numbers beyond what I listed that is why I put + after the number.

I understand there is a carebear approach to guild members but at some point if folks are not going to help out the current leadership and do something as simple as place their name in the note section then they should be removed to make way for those willing to following instructions.

Again just my nickle and dime which I know means zippy.

To be fair, there hasn't even been many officers up till now. So, my hats off to those that have been trying to shoulder the responsibility. The application period just ended and there should be some new officers promoted soon. Of course, they will need to meet and get up-to-speed on various things. But, I believe their promotions will help with at least some of the issues that have been occurring.

There are many things that need to be done. But we have to take them one step at a time. I still have faith that things will get better. :)

Believe me I do too. I joined this guild because of this forum site. It is such an open, honest and accepting community that I couldn't resist joining. I want all the best for this guild and I am here as a Captain to aid the current and new officers in this mission. There aren't many groups like this and I think the need for it in our community is pivotal. I am looking forward to all of the future guild get-togethers in game and hope until the official ones are planned we Captains and Officers can plan some unofficial ones to spark more community and guild unity.

One of my biggest problems with WoW for instance was that I could never find a guild I connected with and as a result never got to experience the deeper levels of the game which for me sucked. I am glad that I, and my other guild mates, will never have that problem in this guild. And I volunteer my services to anyone at any level, on the Republic server for now, to call on me for help with missions, datacrons, or just to chat. I know my fellow captains will say the same thing and I want all the members to know that we are all here for you split or no split. We are one guild on a mission to unity the galaxy through community.

Honestly I have to agree with Van. We may only need one 1 guild soon if not already due to the members leaving. However before we start kicking alts we should ask members to volunteer to take their unused alts out of the guild until so we can get a clear picture of how many members are actually active in the guild, and decide from there. It is awefully quiet and hard to tell who's on since few are using the shared chat other than regular members.

Re: STO v. SWTOR

January 21 2012
I play STO over here. Have not had the funds to invest in SWTOR yet, but I plan on trying out though. As Eurrsk said, the Doff system and the afoundry are what keep me coming back everyday (there are so many great missions on there). Anyway, always preferred Star Trek to Star Wars so STO will always be my main game I think (hey, maybe that will change when I get SWTOR lol).

Also, quick question for anyone who knows. Which of the jedi related classes in SWTOR is better (I know there are two of them, forgot the names)? What are the benefits of each one?

STO all the way for me! I'm on at least 5 or 6 days a week! I'm trying to get my MK XII Sets doing elite STFs. (They're tough as hell) Plus, the Doff System, Deferi Invasions, and the Foundry are way too addicting lol :D Yeah, a lot of things changed the past month, so it'd be nice to see some people come back and try out the new features. Skill system is much more balanced and makes more sense now, the fleet is growing at a rapid pace ^_^

I did try the Beta of SWTOR, and I do agree that the VO and visuals are phenomenal, but space combat was a joke, and even ground gameplay isn't as exciting for me as in STO. I love shooter mode in STO.

What is the status on adding officers to the ranks in KoS?

I'm on nites from 530pm -10pm EST and I rarely if ever see an officer on. At this point it's just the captains taking the brunt of the work. There is little to no response from the guild management in game.

We have folks leaving the guild on a daily basis (2 last nite that I know of).

At this rate we will not need two guilds since the membership has dwindled down. If need be kick some of those who have decided to not keep their accounts active and those lvl 1's that have been sitting there.

I understand the O's have "stuff" on their plates right now but it would be nice to hear from the officers in game. And I don't mean logging into KoS for 10 min once a week just to say hi.

Theodin can always come. We can turn the group into an Op. group and add a bunch of guildies if there is the demand to go.

Sounds like fun. I have plans to knock out some quests with friends but that will be a little bit after 2or3 EST today.

I don't know if Theodin is the correct level to help you, 37. But I'll give it a try and if there are higher levels who can go I'll bow out to make room in the grp for them.

I have the hardest time finding datacrons, my sense of direction is not the best. lol

Datacron Saturday!

January 21 2012
Okay guildies since Guns for Hire was a little quiet I am issuing an invitation to hunt for Datacrons this afternoon. I am free all day after 1:30PM EST and want to help anyone stuck on datacrons that they can't find, or haven't caught up on yet. Let me know either in this post or with a tell when I sign online today and I will come help you.

Also tonight I am turning in a very difficult datacron on Belsavis. I will need the assistance of at least two higher level guild members to get through the cave to get to the turn in point. Any lower level members are welcome to join us and follow close to our cleared out path. Anyone in the area will be able to grab the datacron once its active. I have the 4 Rakata cubes needed I just need to get through the cave, so I am extending this invitation to all who want a free datacron without the hassle of jumping or hours of searching for these wretched cubes.

I look forward to helping everyone with these hard to find treasures.

-Kevin ~ Captain Xal Starlighter

As an added incentive I have calculated just how much extra stats I have recieved from collecting the datacrons throughout my game play.

Right now with all of the Datacrons collected up to the planet Belsavis I have gained:

Cunning - 20

Presence - 20

Endurance - 22

Willpower - 18

Strength - 22

Aim - 20

Blue MS - 2

Red MS - 2

Yellow MS - 2

Green MS - 1

There are still 18 Datacrons to go for me so you can see how these add up nicely. The final Datacron is one that adds +10 to all stats and is waiting for the entire guild to get together on the Republic Fleet.

Screenshots!

January 21 2012
Hi everybody, I thought I would open a thread for members to post their best screenshots.

We will soon be arranging social in-game get togethers, as suggested already, as we are confident that a majority of the guild now have ships and can travel to a location we pick. We will be taking screenshots of the guild characters at these events, and will announce them in plenty of time aswell as holding them at different times so everyone can get involved.

In the meantime if you have any screenshots of your character or team that you would like to share with the guild, post them here! We may be able to use some of them for "caption competitions" etc. in future.

Thanks.

Re: Very quiet since the guild split

January 21 2012
Yeah I think there are a few factors as to why it's been a bit quieter, but I don't think the "split" thread was one of them. No-one has deleted their profile or left the site over that.

It's back to work for most of us, and the free month is now over so a few members who were trying out SW:TOR have decided not to sub. We expected that though and we are grateful so many people decided to try it out with us in the first place.

Plenty of people spent an awful lot of time in-game because it was new, so they are probably taking a bit of a break as they are all Star Wars'd out for now, but they will be back. Also the buggy chat channels are a problem that I hope Bioware fix soon. I still have to rejoin the KoS and LoS channels at times, even though it remembers my settings, they're not visable when I log in occasionally and I miss some comments.

We noticed a lull in activity in Stonewall Fleet around the same time after launch, and I can assure everyone that things always pick up again. Part of the problem may also be that if you see nobody else already talking, you don't want to start a conversation, and until someone does, it stays quiet. That never lasts long though and at any time it can get very busy and active again.

I mentioned in the "State of the Guild" post that we may need to disable the in-build guild channels if we see people socialising outside the private KoS/LoS member channels, as we want everyone to be able to socalise together. I've not seen a problem with this yet, but if anyone else thinks it's becoming a problem, send me a message and I can open a debate thread on what we should do.

Re: STO v. SWTOR

January 21 2012
I'm mostly focusing on SW:TOR at the moment, but I've got a lifetime membership of STO and I love that game too, so I'll be back.

As for the membership of both guilds, it's not easy to tell as we have a lot of people in both games, but we are still getting as many, if not more, new member applications for STO as SW:TOR. I think both are pretty equal and I'm glad we have fnally found a place where Star Trek and Star Wars fans can get along, lol.

Balloon ride...

January 21 2012
Had fun nude dancing on the Jawa Balloon with Battlebarbie, Kasper and Gargoyle last night lol. Much green ooze was shot all over the floor and oozed overboard thanks to Gargoyle. The balloon popped just a little way from our intended drop off point dropping us on the hot sand below. Oh well, better luck next time... must've been too much booty shaken for that old balloon to take...

SWTOR did not cost $500 million

January 21 2012
According to a Los Angeles Times article, SWTOR did not cost the rumored $500 million. Some quotes below for the TL;DR-ers. According to massively EA's stock value increased after this announcement.

More than 800 people on four continents have spent six years and nearly $200 million creating it.

Nearly 1,000 actors have recorded dialogue for 4,000 characters in three languages.

The narrative is so huge that writers created a 1,000-page “bible” to keep the details straight,

Art has been outsourced to Russia, Estonia and China. Motion capture filming is done in L.A. and Vancouver, Canada, with voices recorded in New York, London and Paris in English, French and German. Quality assurance testing takes place in Romania, Argentina and India, while technical operations are run out of Virginia and the customer service center operates in Ireland. A regular plane shuttles employees between Austin and Electronic Arts’ headquarters in Redwood Shores, Calif.

“Coordinating it all is like teaching elephants to do ballet,” said Greg Zeschuk, who co-founded BioWare with Ray Muzyka.

Players who choose the smuggler will see hints of “Big Trouble in Little China,” for instance, while the trooper’s tale is loosely based on “Band of Brothers.”

George Lucas.
The filmmaker, who declined to comment for this story, blessed the idea of setting the Old Republic in “Star Wars” pre-history and gave Muzyka and Zeschuk virtually free rein. His LucasArts’ staff stepped in only to soften content they found too risque, such as scenes involving sex slaves.

I want sex slaves! Oh well, most likely they where female only, so probably no loss here.

Incidentally... just as an aside, the last logged in functionality is now in game and can be seen through the guild window. It must have been added during the recent patch. It certainly wasn't there beforehand.

Ok I think my guild window is broken because I don't see it unless it's a permissions thing.

For me it's an option in the last column where you can select from things like member note, rank, etc.
