Crafting in Star Wars

July 18 2012
(this doesnt fit in LOS or KOS since it kinds goes for both sides ... so putting it here.)

In Rift a guild I was in had a very nice custom made set of web pages that allowed folks to request certain items to be crafted and then crafters got points towards leveling in that guild from making them .. then also folks donating requested materials got points etc .. which the crafters spent points on to 'buy' etc etc .. its far too much work for this organization of course and we don't promote that way ... but it got me to thinking of how we can broadcast our needs in SWTOR... mostly those looking to have things made and crafters willing to make it ..

Now this has been done in many games .. many guilds where someone posts on some forum .. can anyone make me xxxxxxx .... with the enormous amounts of items and the time sensitiviy on making those items .. this method seems impractical for us ... I mean by the time John Doe asks for a might hilt 14 .. and someone responds ... and makes him a blue might hilt 14 .. he may really need a might hilt 16 or greater ... So I don't think just asking and waiting for a response will work ...

And keep in mind while John Doe may be a sith .. we do have ways between both LOS and KOS to get that hilt to the sith even though the crafter might be republic .. thats a non issue ..

What I am trying to brainstorm is how can we effectively help each other with requests like this which unless its a level 50+ item ... time sensitivy is an issue ...

One suggestion is using our vent server more and having a crafting day ... for about 2 hours every so often .. where both republics and imps are in vent .. and willing to craft .. and requests are made live .. it would also perhaps require those making requests willing to purchase some raw mats to help those crafters get from blue to purple or possibly green to blue ...(do NOTE that crafting a blue higher level item may take up to 30 minutes per try and does not guarantee learnign the purple schematic .. so instant gratification would only apply when a crafter happend to have that recipe for you)

Getting together like this would also let crafters know what things they can try to learn during the non schedule times to be ready for requests for folks at a later time.

Anyway throwing this idea out there .. maybe someone has a better one ...or maybe yall think it sucks ... would like feedback eitehr way before I tried to organize something like this ...

Hey Nick,

Do you mind if I reproduce this guide in the Stonewall Times?

I think Eternal Groove is the best choice simply because it is the home of the Sylvari, the race that is very diverse and LGBT friendly. I wouldn't be surprised if it turned into a "Proudmoore".

Well, not EVERYONE... I know a fair bit of mythology and mythological figures.

Dara's ships are mostly mythical heroines, with the exception of her current U.S.S. Atlanta, which I fudged because I live near Atlanta and everyone would assume Atalanta was a typo anyway.

Benton's ships... well... this is ridiculously teenage of me, but they've been the U.S.S.'s Greenwood, Selway, O'Brien, and Yorke. Gonna refrain from explaining that to anyone not nerdy enough to get it on their own.

My science officer's ships are almost all named after my boyfriend with various letters added to the end for the series. So far, my engineering officer's ships are all named "Glorious" in Russian.

I usually use one of the following:

- authors/artists I like (U.S.S. Murakami)
- places I visited (U.S.S. Cadiz, U.S.S. Teide, U.S.S. Gibraltar, U.S.S. Stralsund)
- mythological names (U.S.S. Zephyr, U.S.S. Aurora, U.S.S. Amaterasu)
- favorite fictional characters (U.S.S. Roslin, U.S.S. Akagi)

Sometimes I also use the random name generator to see whether something nice pops up. The very first name that was presented to me this way (back when I started STO), was the name of my hometown - U.S.S. Erfurt! Freaky coincidence.

Ship Names

July 16 2012
Ok, so I was wondering, how do you pick names for your ships?

I've had only 3 naming schemes so far:

1. BEER! My starter Light Cruiser was named "Strongbow" Which I happened to be drinking at the time. I also had "Warsteiner" "Guinness" and a few others that don't immediately come to mind

2. Actors who played Captains in Star Trek Series and movies: Shatner, Takei, Stewart, Brooks, etc.

3. words describing determination: Stalwart, Resolute, Steadfast, and so on

I'm trying to come up with a new theme...

Hello. I'm involved in several RPs in STO, and would be happy to join in with other Stonewallers. I know several of us are RPers, and there are several ways to proceed. Likely, the single ship/crew is a good idea, depending on how many are involved.

Making sure everyone has something to contribute is the biggest challenge.

My husband and I have a pair of characters (based on an old tabletop game). Mine is an engineer, his is a counselor. He spends much less time in STO than I do, but I know he'd come back to play Kobi (the counselor)

I'm happy to see this effort begin, and will help in any way I can. I run and participate in RP games outside STO, and I'm supernerdy with trek trivia. Next time I see some of my stonewall RP buddies in game I'll direct them here as well!
