80...not what I expected {spoiler alert}

September 19 2012
So I just want to say. first day of 80 not so bad. Then I learned a few lessons today after this new patch. It may be fixed later but for now it really puts a sour taste in my mouth. When I hit 80 I was full of wonder. Happy I could make my epic gear and do the 80 dungeon. I felt that my place was getting my gear together and then helping others with the, somewhat at times very unforgivable dungeons. Then I learned today that 80 progression is based on skins. Not striving for that new uber weap you build. Just skins for it and your clothes. I'm not into playing dress up. That is not progression. Not only is your progression based on skins its also very time consuming to get said skins. Nodes are few and far between and money is still a chore to get. So like in most games you turn to other sources of income or fun. Such as dungeons. New patch, storymode dungeons if you have done them before are a waste of time. You will die and spend more silver in repairs then you actually get. No joke 1 80 and 3 40-50 range people ran cm with me today. Not only is it crazy hard now(makes ac look like cakewalk) but I got 1 silver and 8k xp for my time. So run explore you say. I say naw....your reward for that, besides being even harder and more costly, tokens. yay tokens for more skins..... So running your friends through a dungeon now costs you money... well thats just nice. Even better was the "ending" of the lvl 80 dungeon. all that lead up to your epic battle... spoiler. Its you mashing the "2" key. yup 5 mins of nothing but 2 over n over. I have never had so much fun lvling in a vid game. Story and wonder all around. I have never been so disappointed by "end game" Its an excuse to play barbie dress up. "Look at me I wasted 3 days of my life for this new dress." "Is it any better than what im wearing?" "No" "So those 3 days could have been spent with your friends running dungeons and helping?""I would do that but im broke from my new dress and my repair fees." yea... thats about how I feel right now. /rantover

Um, ok, not really sure how to take that post. If you are not interested in political discussions, don't get involved. There was really no need to make a post instructing us how to properly conduct ourselves though.

Also, let me clarify: I wasn't really intending this to be a political THREAD, just an announcement for the political chat that was created. :)

1. Um, ok, not really sure how to take that post. No offense intended...and I hope no offense taken. :)

2. If you are not interested in political discussions, don't get involved. I feel ever so slightly put-off by this comment though. This is my home now and it will be for many years to come, hopefully. Though I'm not an officer or anything but a member...if I feel a general concern about a topic that was started I will make a comment about my concerns...even if I am not going to participate in the overall topic. That seems fair and is a general right of all members to be able to voice concerns about something.

3. There was really no need to make a post instructing us how to properly conduct ourselves though. Friend, that wasn't an instruction on conduct...it was a mild concern that people could lose themselves in politics and diminish their overall gaming experience, that was all. :)

1. Thank you for clarifying. :)

2. I certainly didn't mean to imply that you weren't welcome to join in or have an opinion. You are just as much a valued member of this fleet as anybody else is. You just stated that you weren't interested in the topic and wouldn't participate, and then went on to share your concerns about how this topic would potentially hurt people's gaming experience.

3.I took that as more than a little condescending, since I for one can do 2 things at once, lol. It also seemed that you were intending to try and quash the topic because of your concerns. I think most of us discussing these issues are mature enough to decide if it is interfering with our gameplay or not.

Personally, as much as I LOVE Star Trek Online, whether or not my Husband and I, along with all other LGBT's continue to gain equality or lose it due to changing political climates, is FAR more important.

So, it looks like we may have had a misunderstanding here. No hard feelings on my end. :) Now, back to more Pew-Pew-Pewing.)

I'm very much a believer in the thought that "If you don't do politics, you don't do much else". Because I think it has an impact on everything we do, even if it's something as small as paying to ride the bus or as large an issue as Gay Marriage.

That being said, don't you think that a in-game chat room is the wrong forum for discussing topics that require long debates and thought-out view points.

I think you may be better suited to create a group on this website to discuss politics. If you go to the groups section /network/groups you should be able to create a group that will allow you to have in-depth discussions, with separate topics, away from peoples "play time" and people who aren't interested don't have to join.

I think you should specify exactly that you're trying to do with this, as well. I'm British and we have politics but we don't have a crucial election coming up (well not for a few years), are you only interested in discussing politics in the US of A?

Halish

Points well taken.

My experience has been that forum threads tend to get a little lengthy and often times over-heated. I feel that having a real-time environment like chat might be better suited to my purpose for those who are politically inclined. For example things like "Did you just see what Obama or Romney Said"(or Cameron, for you Brits, lol)

I am not really looking to create an in-depth analysis of the various political institutions of the world. There are many other places I can go for that.

I simply noticed that there were others in the chat that seem to be like minded.

While I am American and the current Presidential elections are at the forefront of my interests, I DO enjoy discussing international politics as well.

Just FYI, but unfortunately cross-faction starbase invitations are not allowed. Thus the importance of having a proud base for the Empire (and the need for a cross-faction space for in game meetings)! :-D

Might suggest that one of those meetings, if they're in-character-person, be on Drozana or DS9 instead of the three fleet bases: I suspect a Stonewall Admiral might be able to let DSS folk on the base, but the Nagh reD folk?

...though that might take care of our tribble problem...

Anyone can invite other characters to any of our starbases and I believe that includes Klingon characters as well.

I think one thing that would be handy is a single, easy-to-find list of the full complement of guild officers (separated for the different games, of course). Knowing who does what, who's an officer and who's not, can be really tricky, especially for a newcomer. Heaven knows I don't know who does what at the moment, and I'm not a newcomer.

Check out the Fleet Departments page. I'll be adding it to the Welcome Center shortly.

Re: Fleet Development

Random thought, but what about an open meeting policy, so that ALL fleet meetings are posted and open to whomever wants to participate/listen in? It seems to be similar to what Ozy's doing with the PVE team meetings and could be a great idea in general both to encourage participation and transparency, at the same time highlighting MrIzzy's important point about the fleet aiming to be very egalitarian. Might even liven up those fussy admiral meetings. :-p

Maybe I'm the only one, but I've got the game for game stuff -- I think of the fleet primarily as a social hub. If I'm friendly with fleeties, I'll feel more a part of the fleet. Vent for fleet actions and STFs is really good for this, but I've gone on a few group grinds w/o any voice chat and it's not a great way to make friends and influence people.

Event #3 report

September 18 2012
Several bridge officers gathered to confer on the fallout of the Klingon system incursion. Shields were inoperable, deflectors and warp engines damaged, and all auxiliary craft have been destroyed -- but without a doubt, the most keenly felt losses were the three crewmen killed due to the severe damage the Sally Ride took during her escape. Their bodies have been put into stasis, to be delivered to their surviving loved ones if the ship makes it back to Federation space. No formal services have been possible with the ship under such pressure, but a number of crewmen have used personal off-duty hours to observe private rites of passage alone or in small groups.

The news was not all bad, however. Even after taking a bit of a beating, the Ride's warp engines are operating at nearly 90 percent of factory baseline. This puts the ship on a workable schedule to return to Federation space, and gives it a chance to outrun pursuers. Due to a jury-rigged repair to the ship's shields, they can now be operated at normal capacity via warp shunt, if only at impulse speeds.

Sensor logs from the shuttle crews have also shed more light on the mysterious flotilla of modified ships encountered in the Klingon system. The seven ships were built on hulls from various KDF races -- four Klingon, two Orion, and one Nausicaan. All have had weapons and other systems removed to make room for various pieces of heavy equipment. The sensors were a major concern for the Ride during her stop, and the repulsor beam that swatted aside the Waverider shuttle was also notably more powerful and focused than standard KDF graviton equipment.

Beyond that, the energy readings from the modifications were surprising, their origins varied and difficult to pinpoint. By chance, a biologist named Yenzoc noted that some of the equipment seemed to be putting off an energy signature very close to that of a mature Horta. With such an odd parallel as a precedent, the sensor logs have been distributed to certain scientists and engineers with the hope that more clues to the purpose of the strange ships can be gleaned from the readings.

In the meantime, the tactical department and stellar cartography have been directed to collaborate on the stealthiest possible course to take the ship through the rest of Klingon space. Given the eerily well-informed ambush the last time the Sally Ride entered a populated system, we won't be taking any more chances.
__________

OOC Notes:

Sorry this report comes a bit late! I'm also sending out "sensor data" briefings to specific people. If you would like one, drop me a line! I'll need to know your character's role and species -- I can grab that from your signup if you have posted one.

As always, individual reports are welcome, and if you'd like to put your character's brainpower to work on one of the mysteries the crew is facing, feel free to drop me a PM or an in-game mail and I'll see what insights you might be able to offer.

I will vote and I do take that seriously. This is my first time ever being in a LGBT guild and I feel right at home. However, where politics are concerned I'm going to shy away from this thread and leave the time and room for those of you who really do enjoy political discussions. I'm afraid I'm just not one of those people. I can see many people here diving into this pretty deep. I've seen some people here crawl all over politics like ants at a sugar convention LOL so much so I've often wondered how these people are even going to enjoy this game...when on the surface there was sooooo much LGBT issues they were monitoring and responding to...etc.

I hope that whatever level of politics you dive into, remember that we gathered here to enjoy a game together...I'm hoping that is first and foremost.

Respectfully,

Siafu
