Thanks Nick for posting this. The entire thing is OH SO TRUE but the wealthy continue to act like they've never been given ANYTHING, they are just so persecuted for their money, and that they are going broke with all the taxes they have to pay. There me-me-me attitude is so totally DISGUSTING and change is nowhere in sight. :pinch: Oh well.....

I've not played a Sim City game in a long time. But, after watching this video, I may just have to change that.

Re: SWTOR Help

October 09 2012
First off, I sincerely apologize for the lateness of my reply. I had to go out of town unexpectedly over the weekend and missed your initial posting so it didn't show as a new post on my return.

The only time that's been mentioned for when F2P goes live is November. No actual dates have ever been listed. There is a difference in the free to play to level 15 and the actual F2P for the entire game. The free to play to level 15 has been available for awhile as a trial version of the game. Once you hit level 15 on any character you roll that's it for that character, you are expected to subscribe if you want to continue playing. The entire game is supposedly going F2P sometime in November and whatever "store" that will be associated with it will appear then as well. There hasn't been any further details about what's going to happen then at all so I can't be any more detailed about it (much as I'd like to  ).

As far as your targeting goes, that's just something you will have to resolve on your own because you are the one actually "clicking" on something to "target" it. In preferences, there is a choice you can enable to have the game target the nearest enemy but that's all the help you can get in this regard. Odioshi is correct, you can use the "tab key" to target an enemy mob but it doesn't always target the one you may have wanted to go after at that particular point in time. It will, however, NOT target your teammate as you know you can easily do if you are click targeting on your own. As far as need or greed, anytime a choice like that comes up you have the option of selecting whichever would work best for you. As Odioshi stated, if you actually NEED the item select need. Don't, however, go selecting need for everything that comes up, because that's totally unfair to your teammates and will get you accused of ninja looting (and reported for same occasionally depending on whom you've pissed off for doing it) More than one person can roll need for the same item and then it becomes a contest between the roll numbers of each player that has selected need. Unfortunately, not everyone acts morally when this situation arises. This has been an ongoing problem in any game that uses this mechanic. Some game developers have attempted to control the outcomes of these rolls but not all are successful. In WOW, for example, it became such a problem that they changed it so that anytime someone rolls need for an item it immediately becomes soulbound so that it can't then be sold at exorbitant prices through the auction house. Before this change was made, anytime you ran a pug dungeon you risked being teammates with someone who rolled need for EVERYTHING even when their character obviously couldn't use the item. SWTOR is still doing it the old way so you may occasionally run into someone that does this.

Again, no actual date (or new and different details) has been posted about when F2P is going live. If you can afford it, I would seriously recommend subscribing because there are all sorts of possibly frustrating restrictions you will be faced with if you go with the F2P model. Probably the biggest being flashpoints and operations (group instances). You will be restricted to doing flashpoints to once per week (and there are a LOT of them so you'll really be missing out on grouping with friends) and you won't be able to do any operations at all. There are also supposed to be some character creation limitations and those that use the F2P model won't get as many of the Cartel coins or points as subscribers. If you access the SWTOR website you may find some information that explains things better than I am able to. The linked webpage has a lot of things to click on and read that might just put it all in perspective for you and help you with your decision. :)

Event #6 report

October 09 2012
After the USS Sally Ride dropped out of warp to avoid detection by Klingon border patrols, a small group of bridge officers gathered in the conference room for a situation report and strategy session.

The KDF patrols along their fortified border have been increased significantly, and the frontier is being bathed in sensor sweeps so powerful that they could only come from the modified flotilla. These scans are strong enough to sense the Sally Ride even with her energy signature masked, and because the ship's shields are being operated by warp shunt, they can only be raised at impulse. The ship isn't durable enough to rush the blockade, powerful enough to fight the regular patrols, or sneaky enough to evade the modified ships' scans.

The on-duty officers discussed this seemingly insoluble problem at some length, with any number of plans devised and rejected. Finally, they settled on the following: scatter a number of astrometric probes programmed to overload their own communications arrays much like the deadman switch discovered on the Sally Ride. These single-use comm bursts should be detected by Federation border guards, alerting them to the ship's distress without giving away her position.

This should put Starfleet on alert to assist in the event of a confrontation, or even incite them to engage the border patrols. In any case, the signals ought to scatter the KDF border guards enough for the Sally Ride to attempt an escape past the less well-armed scavenger ships.

In the event that the plan doesn't work, more probes will be loaded with logs detailing the acts of sabotage against the Sally Ride and sent drifting into Federation space. Lieutenant Orenn considers it of paramount importance that Starfleet be notified of the plans to turn the Federation's own transwarp network against it, even if the crew doesn't survive to relate the story themselves.

OOC Notes:
We decided to delay the conclusion of the story arc because only a couple of people were able to make it to the event. Unfortunately, this delay might be pretty long: next weekend is Atlanta Pride and I will have neither a reliable internet connection nor a predictable enough schedule to run any events. This means NO EVENT THIS WEEKEND. We could try this Thursday or next Monday? Let me know if that's a good fit for any of you -- I'm thinking we ought to have at least four for our grand finale, so RSVP!

In any case, the next event is not going to happen in a conference room. :) We're going to need people to shoot phasers, operate probes, put out fires, take evasive action, treat wounded, negotiate with hostile forces, and Sagan only knows what else. So please let me know when you'll be available to man battle stations!

Just to add to Sinner's statement, the only other requirement is that you are a full member. Meaning you have made your introductory post on the website (which you've done) and waited the 14 days to be promoted to member. Other than that, it's quite simple.

Hi Starfish if you have the required FC, Ship Modules and or Dilithium for the items you would like to get and we have the items all you need to do is ask any fleet captain. That's all :)

Re: Promotion to requisitioning request.

October 07 2012
I've only been with the fleet for a few weeks and was looking for guidance on fleet requisitions last week.

Is there any guidance on how much you should be aiming to put into the fleet before you are deemed to be able to make any kind of request to buy something from it? At some point I would like to buy a fleet ship (and already have the fleet credits, and the fleet module) but it sounds like it's a bit more complex than that.

Is it done on a policy of making a request, and then a captain looking at how much you have put into the fleet to see if you are allowed to make the purchase?
